Imagine this, you wake up and you inhale dust, smell the dirt, and roll over the uncomfortable bed you are in. You think hard and all the sudden all the thoughts rushed back in to your mind, your oldest child was taken by a truck full of soldiers, your two daughters were bombed and are on the edge of life, your wife is sitting in the corner your 2 years old child. You are surrounded with fear, no hope towards the future and shame because you have run out of things to offer your family. This scenario is what a person that’s living in a war zone feels, this is what it is like to be in Syria. In this research, I will be talking about the struggles these refugees are facing, what is being done to help and what we, as citizens do to help. Syria is in Western Asia, it's formally known as Arab Republic. Its neighbor countries are Lebanon, The Mediterranean Sea, Turkey, Israel, Iran, and Jordan. The idea that the Arab states aren’t doing enough is very known. But for the fact these countries might not be the perfect landing place for seekers of asylum, specifically because most of the time their cultural distances. The talk, that Gulf states haven’t taken many refuges is truly incorrect. According to the UNHCR, there were about 500,000 Syrian refugees in Saudi. Since Saudi doesn’t have any agreements with the UN refugee convention these displaced people aren’t considered refugees. The reason why Saudi Arabia isn’t the best place for refuges coming from Syria because, there are religion conflicts, the environment is much different for people like refugees, at the end of the day the United Arab Emirates would prefer to pay to equip and support refugee camps in other countries close to Syrian borders instead of Saudi Arabia itself.
