Today I will discuss when my brother was a few years old my parents heard him start to talk. Surprisingly, the day after that he just stopped talking and my parents thought he might have been hurt or something. They took him to the doctor and found out that he had Autism. My parents were devastated but they learned how to deal with it. Sometimes they didn’t know how to control him. Now we live as much of a normal life as we possibly can. What causes autism in your child? 6
When people find out their child has autism the first thing they think of is, what caused this? Well not one thing causes autism it is and combination of different things. Some of these things are genetic and non-genetic, or environmental, influences. These influences are

Because of the range of symptoms, this condition is called autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD covers a large spectrum of symptoms, skills, and levels of impairment. ASD ranges from handicap that some somewhat limits an otherwise normal life to a devastating disability that may require institutional care. 4
Children that are born with autism have a lot of trouble communicating. These children/adults have a lot of trouble understanding what other people are thinking and feeling. This makes it very hard for them to express themselves in words, touch, or facial expressions. The children/adults that are born with ASD and are very sensitive have a good chance to be greatly troubled sometime even pained by sounds, smells, touch, or even sight that seems normal to others. But how can we avoid our child from having autism. 5 Treatments are best used when they are used with therapy for it. Though the FDA has approved medicines for irritability. They haven't approved a medicine for curing the three core parts of autism. Surprisingly, even though the FDA hasn't approved a medicine for curing autism there are some medicines that calm the three core parts.
Autism is considered a spectrum disorder because symptoms and severity vary from individual to individual. Autistic people express differently from each other. Autistic spectrum describes a range of conditions classified as pervasive developmental disorders.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may be a disorder in the brain, caused by genetic, environmental or neural levels. Autism effects data processing in the brain by alerting how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize; how this occurs not understand. (Johnson.2004)
Do you ever wonder why some autistic children act differently from others? Autism Spectrum Disorder affects three different areas of a child's life; it affects social interactions, communication skills, and their behaviors and interest. Every child is different and has their own way of expressing themselves (Autism Response). Some children may have better social skills than others. Autistic kids do not know how to express themselves so they do so through their different behaviors. Many autistic children are even nonverbal and will make different noises to communicate. It is very easy for a child with Autism to get upset because of their sensory, emotional, and cognitive difficulties. Sensory problems, emotional difficulties, and uneven cognitive abilities are all symptoms of Autism. Some more than others, but these are the most common symptoms of Autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder). For example, many of Autistic children can not express themselves like others who do not have the disorder. In many instances, it is very frustrating for both the child and whomever they are speaking to. If the child doesn't babble, coo, gesture (point, wave, grasp) by 12 months, doesn't speak not one single word by 16 months, and doesn't say any short 2 word phrases on their own by 24 months old they may have autism (Autism Spectrum Disorders Health Center). If a child is not showing any fine motor skills by 12 months, and not
Many of us have heard about Autism, also knows as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Some have a family member, a friend, or know someone who has ASD. Increasingly it is becoming a more common disability. “Autism is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the U.S” (Autism Speaks). Autism has no respect for gender, race, social class and or ethnicity. “Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder that involves abnormal development and function of the brain.” (Autism Center of Excellence) People who have autism have a lot of difficulties with social skills, communication and also will develop behavior issues. These behavior problems of an individual with autism can vary at times and can go from mild to severe. According to the Autism Science Foundation it says,” Many people with the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) also have unusual ways of learning, paying attention, and reacting to different sensations. The thinking and learning abilities of people with ASD can vary—from gifted to severely challenged.” The causes and symptoms, as well as the diagnosis, and the treatments of autism vary.
Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD, is a complex developmental disability. I happen to have two nephews with autism, one who I am very close to and interact with a lot. A child is usually diagnosed with autism during the first three years of life. It is a result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain function, and affects the development of the person’s communication and social interaction
1. My target audience consists of young, educated couples who are expecting their first child and are about to do research on the issue of if pediatric vaccines cause autism. 2. Audience’s important values, assumptions, and beliefs: a. Values: health, education, and family. b. Assumptions: vaccines impact health, want a good life for their children, and are having a child.
What if I were to tell you that there are cures for autism or even cancer? Many are aware that cancer kills an estimated 595,690 people a year. What if I told you that 5,956,900 people in a span of 10 years could still be alive, but the U.S could lose $18 billion by not medicating them with pharmaceuticals (www.cancer.org). What if it was brought to your knowledge that cancer has been cured multiple times, but the doctors, scientist, or even therapist have mysteriously died prior to their discoveries and findings.
Autism, a developmental disorder is becoming widely diagnosed here in the U.S. and throughout the world affecting children in all different types of backgrounds. From children living in rural or urban, rich or poor. Currently there are many speculations and superstitions as to the causes for developing autism but science has no clear evidence as to why autism affects certain people and not others, autism can greatly affect the families and its patients for their entire lives. Most of you do not know that I have twin younger brothers with Autism. Before this speech, I had no clue what autism really was. Through my research I am now able to relay this information to you. Today I want to talk about Autism. The three things I will be speaking about is what is Autism? How does autism affect the family and how does autism affect people who have it?
“Don’t think that there is a different, better child ‘hiding’ behind the autism. This is your child. Love the child in front of you. Encourage his strengths, celebrate his quirks, and improve his weaknesses, the way you would with any child. You may have to work harder on some of this, but that’s the goal,” Claire Scovell LaZebnik wrote of living with a child who has autism. Autism has been made to look like a grand epidemic. Autism is nothing of the kind. There are plenty of people with autism that are high-functioning and can live on their own, and autism is made to seem like a bigger deal than it is. Many would argue that medicines are needed to treat autism, that autism needs to be ended. There is always a better way.
“Nobody exist on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere” - (Morty smith) I like this because it tells me that I don’t have to live as someone else wants me to. I wasn't born with Autism on purpose, I wasn't born with such loving parents on purpose either I just came alive. I can do with my life as I see fit and be happy with that because I’m was not born to do anything ,but survive with the option of how to do so. One question I am asked all the time by my family is who are you and what are you going to do with your future… what are you going to do to earn a living? I’ve given it quite a bit of thought and I think the best response I can produce to satisfy the question is my personality, my interest, and my education that are guiding me to a successful and independent future.
Yet, the research has suggested that Autism Spectrum Disorder results from different series of factors including genetic, environmental, and neurobiological that demonstrate the characteristics of the behavioral symptoms associated with autism (“Autism,” n.d.). Furthermore, besides still not knowing the etiology of autism, it has been proven that there are many subtypes of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Just as there is no duplicate case of autism, there is no one cause. Alternatively, there is a list of causes. Some of the most common include genetic mutation and predisposition as well as environmental factors. Some research shows that women can reduce the chance of their children being autistic by increasing folic acid intake before and following conception. Other research shows that “advanced paternal age can affect the child’s risk” of being
Scientists have studied disorders such as Autism for quite some time, and as technology and medicine advance so does our knowledge of these diseases. Though scientists believed that Autism was caused by genetic and environmental factors, we still cannot be sure what causes certain people to be diagnosed with it. However, researchers might be closer to answering this question than ever before.
The causes of autism are somewhat a mystery. Many blame genetics and environmental causes. Researchers of autism reason that it is so hard to define the cause because it is not a single disorder, but a spectrum of disorders. “Genetic factors are the most significant cause for autism spectrum disorders. Early studies of twins found the average concordance for identical twins to be 70% and estimated heritability to be over 90%, in other words, that genetics explains over 90% of whether a child will develop autism. Many of the non-autistic co-twins had learning or social disabilities. For adult siblings the risk for having one or more features of the broader autism phenotype might be as high as 30%.”
When I was young and in school autism was something that I didn’t really think about. The closest I got to knowing someone with autism was watching Rain Man. But in 2007 I started to listen more about autism. I was 24 years old and I was pregnant with my first child. I read all I could about autism in my subscription to Parent magazine and talked with my doctor about the laundry list of questions that I had. She assured me that there was nothing to be concerned about and not to stress myself out. There was nothing that I could do to prevent my unborn child from having autism.
