Most people know what it means to be honest, but not everyone knows what it means to have integrity. Honesty and integrity walk hand in hand. The definition of integrity is often stretched or misrepresented. Integrity, by definition, means to have the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. People possessing integrity will always do what's right, regardless of the circumstances, even when no one is looking. There are lots of times at work that someone may know what the right thing to do when performing a task and look up to see if anybody is looking. If no one is looking they may take a short cut or do the wrong thing. In the world of aircraft maintenance every task that is performed on the aircraft has step by step directions to complete the task. Some of these tasks can be very long and difficult and have shortcuts that can make the job easy. In this trade there are quality assurance specialists that walk behind aircraft maintenance crews to make sure they are following these tasks step by step. Some aircraft mechanics with bad moral principles will look up to see if a quality assurance specialist is nearby. If they are not nearby, the mechanic might skip steps or cut corners to get the job done faster. This would be an example of someone with no integrity.
