Integrity: My High School Career

Scholarship, Leadership, service, and Character, all four are an asset that one needs in their life. Scholarship drives you to do your best in your academics and to never let go of your dreams. Leadership is stepping up and offering to help with everything that needs to be done, help those who are less fortunate. Service is going out and making an impact on you community. Character is being you and to not letting anyone change the way you act or think about an issue. Scholarship has made me work as hard as I possibly can so I can go far and achieve every goal I have set for myself. Leadership has taught me to be the one to step up when a leader is needed and to step out of my comfort zone. Service has showed me what all is needed to be done

For scholarship I Also I get good grades and try to be good role model. For example, I took and passed my Global Regents as a Freshmen because I showed readiness by consistently participating and showing good work ethics. Even though I wasn’t in the honors class I felt ready to face the challenge as a Freshmen. What made me want to take to take this exam was to prove it doesn’t matter if you’re in the honors class or not just work hard. I’ve talked to the current and the upcoming freshmen about negative and positive things I went through as freshmen so they don’t make the same mistakes I did or so that they can do the same positive things I did. For leadership, I participate in class and encourage my peers to do the same. I help make sure my peers comprehend what we have learned. In sports, I push my teammates to get better but have fun at the same time. I start practices when my coach is running late and when my coach is out talking to someone I continue the practice. For service, I and my Mosque went out on August 17, 2017, and collect cans of food and a collection for $350 and sent it to Sierra Leone because of the flood /mudslide and for the people who lost their homes and family. Ever since my elementary years, I have taken my education and the work I do seriously. My dedication to the qualities of scholarship, character, leadership, and service have helped me during my high school experience as high school was a eye-opener for a young girl with big dreams. A quote that is to mind when I think about what dedication to scholarship and character means to me is one by St. Jerome; “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Throughout my three years at Barnegat High School I have strived to be a respectful, responsible and influential student and athlete. I have worked hard to stand out among my peers, be dedicated to everything I do, work towards achieving my personal goals and positively influence those around me. As an individual and a young adult, I believe it is the responsibility of younger generations to work towards being the best version of ourselves we can possibly be and positively contribute to others and our community. Through my experiences, especially in basketball and my classwork, I have been able to be exposed to new things and apply my skills elsewhere in my life. I do not drink, smoke, or go out to parties. I have a set time that I go to bed for myself so that I can be well rested for school. I make sure that I finish my homework at home, not before class, and I help out my community the best that I can. I do all of this is so that I can keep up my high standing in my town. I committed myself to my town. I sing the national anthem at the memorial day service, I lay flags and pick them up with the veterans, I am also very active in my church. All of this leads back to my academic success, because without my family and friends I would not have the qualities I have now. I believe involvement in and out of school is crucial, and that a strong student must have leadership, perseverance, and focus. First, an important quality to have is to be a leader. Hello I am Samantha Kennelly, I go to St. John XXIII College Preparatory, for high school. Through out my high school career I discovered three important characteristic about myself: humility, creativity, and leadership. I discovered my humility in my acts of kindness towards others, whether it is raising money for a disabled child to have a semester free of therapeutic horse riding or teaching summer school students how to read, write, and do math. Creativity in my love and appreciation for the arts and being in an independent film along with being accepted into distinguished art for my last year of high school. Every since I was a young girl I have invested myself in my academics. I always loved coming home and showing my parents my report cards, because I wanted to show them the effort and diligence that I put forth into my academics. As I grew older that passion never faded, and instead of wanting to get that A to show my parents I found myself wanting to get that A to for myself. As a result, my academic achievements have become one of my most prized accomplishments in my life. Finishing off my final months of senior year I am carrying with me a grade point average of 3.97, and as a result of this I am number eight in my graduating class here at Summerfield.      Throughout my years at Xavier and beyond I intend to follow the Xavier Honor Code so I can become a cooperative and responsible person. By being a student at Xavier I notice I will have to take responsibility of my actions and faults. In order for Xavier to trust me and to allow me to continue attending their school, I will have to follow their rules and be respectful. Not only should I do these things, but also I have to respect myself in order to respect others. In following the Honor Code at Xavier I will learn more about others, the school, and myself. The importance of character and integrity after high school for me is the basis on how I will treat others and myself. These characteristics do not have to be only personality traits, they can be academic as well. Character is defined as, “The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual”. Going onto college, as a student I am starting fresh, with new faces, new professors, new atmosphere. Having character is important because it shows that I am who I am, and will respect others who are different. Trustworthiness is a huge part of character. By being trustworthy as I go onto college and get a job after receiving my education, my boss will be sure they hired a good person to work for their company. Respect is also a large part of character.

Currently, as a junior, I feel that the past three of high school have tremendously shaped my character. Arriving at the doorsteps of Manatee High School, I knew little of leadership, or service. To me, high school was and still is a journey. I've learned to give back to those who have helped me. Through various extracurricular activities, I've not only learned to be a team member, but a leader as well.
