The main purpose of Unit 3 of The Basics of Introductory Statics, Chapters 11-16 is to introduce the students to inferential statistics, ANOVA, sampling, analysis of variance and chi square. Inferential Statistics is a work with the relationship between samples and populations in other words, the strength of the effect and error.
There are many kinds of sample(s) when working in Unit 3, there is related samples, distribution sampling, population samples and independent samples. So, you may ask what is considered a sample in statistics? In statistics, a sample refers to a set of observations drawn from a population. A sample can include any object or characteristic in a population. It is necessary to use samples for research, because it is impractical to study the whole population.
The author is asking the student; How can we make inferences about whole populations from samples drawn from the population? By inferential statistics. It can also be used by the government to see the political polls based on the populations vote. With inferential statistics being used for jobs, it allows the company to see their weak and strong points, make decisions, as well as plan for their future in pleasing the people. It also helps them by, avoiding having to test everyone and being able to get an estimate for something that can help them out until they can account for
