In order to make it’s impact on traditional music the accordion had to develop a recognizably Irish style of playing in order for it to be associated with the Irish style of playing. As Irish traditional music involves a large variety of dance music tunes whose phrasing, rhythm, pitch and structure served as a crucial element of its particular genre. It might be said that the very construction of the accordion was suited to these elements particularly well especially the rhythmic element. As the same dance tunes that could be played on fiddles and pipes were played on the accordion and could still sound the same even though their sound was in two completely different dialects. Also the dynamic capability of the instrument is ne of the most
There is a definite sense of the contact hypothesis in the Santa Clara Valley, where cultures seem to
Throughout the Mexican revolution, songs from northern Mexico emerged telling stories of heroism and defeat. Moreover, these corridos, translated into English meaning ballads, were influenced by 14th-century romantic Spanish notes. Further, these ballads, commonly performed by individuals who lack formal musical training and embrace the use of the accordion and tuba in the melody (Madrid 2013, 92). The result of these factors is a musical genre considered unrefined and unsophisticated by most of Mexico until the music’s growth in popularity in the 1970s.
The purpose of my paper is to show how the Scotch-Irish culture came to be in the United States. There were several things that led the Scotch-Irish to make the perilous journey across the Atlantic Ocean to America including famine and high rents. It is estimated that 40-55,000 Scotch Irish arrived in America from 1763 to 1775. (Everyculture) The Scotch-Irish is one of the strongest cultures in the United States and their influence has been generous.
1. The Scotch-Irish were staunch libertarians, and acted upon their feelings. Sex ways and dress ways had close ties to each other in the backcountry. To talk about sex and sexual behavior was also acceptable in this culture. The dress women and men wore was meant to arouse the opposite sex. Anglican missionary Charles Woodmason wrote, “They draw their shift as tight as possible round their Breasts, and slender waists (for they are generally very finely shaped) and draw their Petticoat close t their Hips to show the fineness of their limbs– … –indeed nakedness is not censurable without ceremony.” Woodmason was appalled at how these women carried themselves, but to the women, they were sexy. Men even dressed in ways to show off
In Philip J. Deloris’s Music chapter from his book “Indians in unexpected places” he talks about the influence that Native Americans had in music. Exploring how traditional Native music and modernity fused together. The new fusion leads to new expectations being placed on Native Americans. Native children at boarding school came out having were learning how to play new musical instruments. At the same time through music the boarding schools were trying to assimilate the Native children. He goes on to talk about Tsianina Red Feather and the impact she had on her audiences. She attracted people from all over to her performances because “her authenticity was the show’s most valuable commodity” (210). Showing that audiences wanted to see real Natives not people pretending to them.

Irish songs not only reflect Irish history, but take record of it. Whether it is a rough new beginning or a gruesome battle being recorded, care is always given to portray the emotions of the event. Though the music varies in instrumentation and complexity, the purpose is always served.
Music has imbedded its roots into the American culture, and its branches of different genres are heard by millions every day. The music of America is one big melting pot that is a reflection of society’s own cultural melting pot, and the expressions of its people centered around what was happening during that time period. Popular music is believed to reflect the mood of the country during that period including important events.
This class is my first opportunity at exploring music through a broad and historical lens. Certainly I’ve learned plenty of information about how music is composed and what elements go into creating the music we have today. However, my favorite part of the class was learning about the history of American music and how it influenced culture. One could argue that culture affected music first, or vice versa. In my opinion, there are cases where both scenarios played out. In this paper, I will combine my thoughts with many of the details that we learned in class to show that sometimes music impacted culture first, and other times culture impacted music.
Celtic music has been around for a long time, but the way that it came about is nothing short of unique. Many music styles have a particularly clear beginning, but the same cannot be said for Celtic music. “Irish traditional music began as an oral tradition, passed on from
Music in America has been on the decline since the turn of the millennium. Recent popular musical genres such as rap and hip-hop have promoted sex, violence, profanity, and drug abuse. Artists such as Drake, David Guetta, and Nicki Minaj have missed the mark when it comes to good music. Music is supposed to make people feel something, to take people on a journey. In this sense, music draws a certain parallel to the trajectory of America. When times were good in America, music seemed to be good. Recently, bad music has influenced the mentality of American youth and made them unstable and insecure. Music that has a positive, uplifting message has the power to help.
How useful are the concepts of “tradition” and “dissent” in understanding attitudes to the built heritage of Ireland?
I have a mortal enemy, he harasses me for most of the year, he gets a sick sense of enjoyment from my singeing pain. My mortal enemy… the sun. Being remarkably pasty, every summer consists of ice cream, sports and scarlet red skin. Little did my enemy know, I had an ace in the hole, a little something I like to call sunscreen 50 spf, because strutting around in the typical 30 spf was a risk I was not willing to take. For all this tormentation for most of the year, I have only one thing to thank; something so meaningful that the agony is worthwhile, my strictly Irish genealogy.
Even though Celtic Music does not have a set date in which it was created, it still has a long and fervent history. The origins of Celtic music, the historical events, and the style of Celtic music are the key factors that led to the creation of Celtic music.
Music plays a significant rule in our lives. It’s a melody and rhythm we live in. It plays a very essential rule in our day to day to life when it comes to expressing feelings, passing time and for other uses as well. Though we in general may not think about how music has changed so much in the past few decades we must acknowledge the fact todays music is the outcome of the various change in the past. Today’s majority of music we hear is what we define as more as a “westernized” music. Considering other cultures in the world, a huge impact of western music is seen within them. Westernization and modernization are two different words with different meanings and they have two different impacts on a society. Modernization is used to define the improvements and show a progressive transition from one stage to another. Westernization is the concept of being influenced by the customs and techniques of the western society and reflecting them in a non-western culture. This essay will discuss furtherly about the impact of the western society on music cultures of North India and Korea by looking from both the positive and negative point of this impact.
