A Spiritual Gain but a Financial Lose
Meditation has always been seen as a way to keep the mind and soul healthy. Mediation dates back to 1500 BCE originating in Ancient India. The practice soon started to expand and adapt to other cultures around the world. Some of the earliest references to meditation are found in the Hindu scriptures and it was around the 6th to 5th centuries that other forms of meditation developed into Confucian, Taoist China, and Buddhist India (Taham). This spiritual and religious practice has been around for thousands of years, benefiting many people. However, in the year 2017 mediation no longer feels like a spiritual practice but rather like

Research suggests that meditation may physically change the brain and body and could potentially help to improve many health problems and promote healthy behaviors. In a 2012 study, researchers compared brain images from 50 adults who meditate and 50 adults who don’t meditate. Results suggested that people who practiced meditation for many years have more folds in the outer layer of the brain. This process (called gyrification) may increase the brain’s ability to process information (Meditation: In Depth).
In many ways, the scientific studies showing how positive mediation has created this craze of mediation. Mediation can be linked to many exercise practices such as yoga. Meditation and yoga go hand in hand. Spending a few minutes of meditating then go into a hard body workout of yoga than ending the class with meditation. Many private yoga studies promote the practice of meditation and yoga increasing prices of their facility. Famous instructor Holly Rilinger is a perfect example. Rilinger has created this workout called “Calm and Cardio” starting with a five-minute guided meditation and then launches into cardio and strength training intervals using bodyweight and dumbbells. During each song, you alternate between two exercises while moving to the beat of the booming music (Held). She has combined meditation with exercises and is now using this technique of meditation to create an empire.
Exercise meditation is not the only thing that is expanding. There are
For more than five thousand years, meditation has been a part of human life. Though it has its roots in Hinduism, most religions throughout the globe practice one form of meditation or another.
Meditation is a form of stress management that will allow our mind to experience an oasis of peace and love within our
Suggestion therapy helps people respond better to suggestions, thus helping them stop certain behaviors in their life. It can change a person's perception on behaviors like smoking and alcohol. In analytical therapy, a deep relaxation is used to search for the root cause of the disorder or habit. At this root, the person will then look for how they can fix this issue. Meditation also looks into the mind and can be seen as mental fitness. By maintaining composure, calmness, and relaxation, a person can do this type of healing at anytime. There are numerous types of mediation that focus on the present moment and on breathing. This allows your mind to calm and loss focus on the issue causing you a problem. Meditation is known for lowering the stress and worry in a illness, majorly helping fight off the illness. Once anxiety is gone, the body can look for a cure. Deep breathing is used in meditation, which increases oxygen in the lungs and speeds up healing in the lungs and other areas. Both of these types of remedies are natural and improve the body in numerous

Rooting back to its’ ancient times, meditation has been around for thousands of years, especially in the Eastern part of the world and has spread to the Western countries in early 1970s.
“Meditation is a means of transforming the mind” (The Buddhist Centre 2015). Buddhists practice and teach meditation to help enhance the concentration, clarity, positivity, and find a calming sense of the mind (The Buddhist Centre 2015). Buddhists believe that we have full control and power over our minds meaning that we have the power to change how we think and feel during situations through meditation. (ReligionFacts 2015). Buddhist’s believe dedicated meditation can encourage people to have a clearer, more positive, and peaceful world view. Buddhist’s believe people can alter negative perceptions of themselves and turn it into something positive through meditation/ (The Buddhist Centre 2015).
Meditation causes you to think on God and his Excellencies, which can possibly change your life, all by itself.
For instance, Davidson and colleagues (2003) conducted a study in which subjects perform mindfulness meditation for eight weeks; right after they were vaccinated with the influenza vaccine. Results show significant increases in left-side brain activation (in charge of positive affect). They also found significant increases in antibody titers among those in the meditation group compared to the control group. Moreover, they found that the increments of activation of the left-side of the brain were able to predict the amount of antibodies created in the body of those in the mindfulness meditation group. They conclude that a short program in mindfulness meditation produces noticeable effects on brain and immune function. Their findings suggest that meditation may change the brain and immune function
I look at mindfulness mediation as a form of self-care and the best way we are able to take care of patients is by taking care of ourselves. This form of self-care allows for a balance between doing and being, and to allow for opportunities for one feel compassion and acceptance for not only themselves but their clients as well. I can think of the benefits of just using the three-minute breathing space in between sessions with clients and how if one can allow themselves that moment of space and clarity how much better they may be able to increase their “availability” between clients. This would allow for a great opportunity to practice the shift between doing and being. I believe that incorporating this skill and technique could increase compassion and acceptance for both the client and the
Mindfulness meditation is an alternative way to treat symptoms related to psychological disorders. Neuroscientists define meditation as a grouping of emotional and attentional training regimes developed to cultivate well-being and improve emotional regulation (Khusid & Vythilingam, 2016). Traditional cultures view meditation as a practice to train the mind to achieve spiritual and health benefits. Although there are many types of meditation, mindfulness meditation shows the most evidence for mental health (Khusid & Vythilingam, 2016). Khusid and Vythilingam (2016) describes mindfulness as the ability to maintain open, accepting, nonjudgmental awareness in each moment. Mindfulness meditation
Today, I will be writing about meditation, precisely my own experiences with this sometimes esoteric beautiful craft. Mediation has simply improved my life over the course of several months. I arrived in late August as a nervous seventeen year old, currently seventeen, who was terrified to even speak up in class, let alone look at other people, my eyes always seemed to be fisted at the ground beneath me. As days slowly turned to weeks, weeks into months, I eventually found my place in this new environment. I finally felt that I had a true sense of belonging in this new environment. For example, mediation has improved my sleeping patterns, my performance in the classroom, my performance in the gym, my anxiety and most importantly f all, the
A major impact meditation has is on the physical increase of thickness of the cerebral cortex (outer layer of brain tissue) and grey matter
Mindfulness meditation consists of skills and methods to unplug from the busy world around you and from the busy 'monkey brain ' so often experienced in today 's life and particularly in ADHD, anxiety and depression. According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, mindfulness meditation trains and reinforces the ability to pay attention to the present moment, on purpose which helps to increase concentration, decrease anxiety, improve sleep, improve mood, decrease the stress response, and improve physical and emotional health. The studies are compelling about the health benefits of mindfulness meditation. In fact, studies show that mindfulness meditation actually changes the brain in positive ways. The cortex of the brain is thicker in certain areas of the brain in those who practice mindfulness meditation. And brainwave patterns are changed in healthy ways as well.
The question I will be answering first is the first question on the question guide. The ritual that I will be talking about comes from the Buddhist religious movement. One thing that I found very interesting is the practices of meditation that the Buddhist people use to help find peace within themselves. On buddhanet.net, I found probably the simplest yet most accurate answer to the question What is Meditation? That is “Meditation is a conscious effort to change how the mind works. The Pali word for meditation is 'bhavana' which means 'to make grow' or 'to develop' (buddhanet.net)”. A Buddhist meditates for a couple of different reasons. One is to find enlightenment; another is to create more mindfulness for someone to help better there mindset. I personally enjoyed learning about this topic and now use my own form of it to help me with different problems that I encounter. However, instead of using meditation “to develop” I use it more of short-term method of relaxation.
When discussing the relationship of brain and behavior, the materialist view of human experience runs into conflict with the historically dominant religious accounts. Recent studies, however, suggests that there may be a "middle view" between the two world-views. Religions, especially Buddhism, stress the role of meditation in one's spiritual growth. Meditation has tangible psychological and physiological benefits, though, which can be explained strictly in neurobiological terms. Understanding of how meditation affects the brain, and, by extension, human behavior, also gives insight into consciousness, the role of feedback loops, and the nature of the I-function.
