The main point of this conflict is the existence of the state of Israel and its relations with Arab states and with the Palestinian population in the area. The idea and concept of Israel was born in the mid 19th century. Jews of Europe and America wanted a place for their homeland, where they could go and be with others of the same race and religion. Since we have been moving with surprising velocity into the vast horizons of globalization, the conflict has built up tremendous momentum and has called into question the adequacy of our current attempts at coming to a peaceful resolution that can simultaneously and successfully address both sides of the struggle. The purpose of this paper has been to understand the prospect of a two-state nation solution for Israel and Palestine. The discussion arises a retrospective view of the context behind the present analysis. We begin with a discourse that informs the reader of the historical narrative between the Jewish inhabitants of Israel and the Palestinians who also seek to live in the lands which comprise Israel. At the forefront of the discussion are some key issues such as trends in Israeli settlement expansion over time, the manner in which these settlements create political challenges towards the prospect of a two-state solution, and the fragmentation of power within Palestinian political parties which inhibit the opportunity for proper negotiations amongst the two parties. Finally, we delve into a discussion on nationalism, it’s importance in the discussion of a two-state solution, and the challenges posed when trying to formulate US Foreign Policy towards the matter.

The Jewish agrees with the plan but the Palestinians disagree because they think it is unfair for their land being taken. On Friday night, the University of Washington played host to three of today’s greatest historians concerning the Israel/Palestine issue. Professor Anita Shapira, known for her contextual history of Israel ignited the room with her powerful comments about the circumstances for Arab removal from Israeli lands. Professor James Gelvin tiptoed on several touchy subjects, reiterating his concentration with causality history, nevertheless his historical background gave insight to nationalistic movements both groups have. The third historian, Professor Ilan Pappe concentrated the bulk of his talk on explaining the movement of Palestinian refugees while advocating for the acknowledgement of Israeli brutality in some Arab villages. I personally found beginning my paper very difficult. The conflict between Israel and Palestine is one that has spanned over multiple decades, and though it seems that new reports come in every week, I found it challenging to think of a good hook for my introduction. When checking my sources, I remembered citing an article where President Trump made his comments on the conflict. It was here that I had my “Aha!” moment. President Trump’s remark spurred further conversation from world leaders, which provided much information regarding the topic. Additionally, I had found new sources that had polls on Israel and Palestine’s public opinions on the topic. Finally, I had found a source that conveyed the violence going on. All three of these subtopics aided me in writing an introduction that could hopefully gain the attention of the audience.

To prove my claim, I’ll be providing sources mainly from political analyst as well as socio-religious experts globally and regionally. These can be published research and analysis sources, such as the Brookings Institute, CIA World Factbook or the Pew Research Center, or reputable news sources such as the New York Times and The Economist. In addition, experts in the topic, such as spokespersons from groups such as Arab American Institute. In general, I will avoid “click bait” news sources such as Buzzfeed and Vice as they are mostly opinionated and don’t place as much emphasis on logos-based arguments. By focusing on fact-based articles, I will be able to better further my argument, which constitutes a fact-based complex claim on the social conflict between Jewish and Palestinian.

A common misconception about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is that it is deeply rooted in religion. However, it instead is a dispute over claims on the same land.
