Childhood problems effect many but it's the ones who overcome it are the true and inspiring ones. Resilience is “the capability to recover quickly from difficulties”.

Resilience is the power or the ability to return to the original form. “Resilience is born by grounding yourself in your own loveliness, hitting notes you thought were way out of your range” (94). Father Gregory Boyle says this because he knows that resilience is needed in order to change. Resilience is important because we can become better people by doing things, we thought we couldn’t do. In the book, Tattoos on the Heart, The Power of Boundless Compassion, Boyle claims resilience is essential in our lives because it is the key to do better.

Oprah Winfrey has experienced a lot of trauma in her child hood. She was sexually abused by relatives and got pregnant at an early age, unfortunately she lost the baby. Oprah has gotten through a lot in her life but still managed to become one of the richest and successful women. She is a prime example of resilience. I believe myself to be resilient. I have not gone through the same trauma as Oprah, but I have had my own hardship. I come from a low-income family and have watched my father not only abuse alcohol and drugs but my mother. Eventually my parents divorced and my mother, brother and I moved away. I watched the people around me get in to trouble with the law and get pregnant at early ages. All I knew was that I did not want to end up like that. Thank God for my mother, my faith in God, a special teacher who showed me nothing but support and my motivation to make it. Now I am that support for my
My story of resilience began on April 17th, 1981. My mother was 15 years old when I was born. When I was an infant, my father abandoned us. Still, I do not know his whereabouts. My mother didn’t finish high school, struggled with alcoholism and was often unemployed or underemployed when I was a child. You might imagine the difficulties I encountered throughout my childhood due to these circumstances. What you’re imagining is probably accurate. I’ll spare the details because I don’t allow those details to define my story. What defines my story is that I did not become a victim of the circumstances I was born into. I did not allow the struggles of growing up with an alcoholic parent in poverty and dysfunction to defeat me. As a result, these experiences ignited an inner spirit of resilience and provided me a vision of what I did not want my life to become. Consequently, I set my sights

Joan Garity's (1997) article investigates the relationship between levels of resilience and specific coping strategies in Alzheimer's family caregivers. Garity describes a moderate positive correlation between resilience and problem-focused coping strategies. Particularly, a statistically strong positive correlation was found between resilience and the problem-focused sub-scale of planful problem solving. In emotion-focused coping strategies, a moderate negative correlation between resilience and escape avoidance was found. Yet a moderate positive correlation was found concerning resilience and distancing. Hence, the coping strategies used often by individuals with high resilience are planful problem solving and distancing. Nevertheless, these

In this journey we call life there are several examples in my personal life where the only way to cope was to overcome and rise above. The one particular example I would like to share involves my decision to return to school to earn a degree I have sought unsuccessfully for many years. As stated by Harrington (2012) resilience is overcoming obstacles to achieve the end goal, which in my situation will be earning my degree. Harrington (2012) list key elements to assist with providing resilience there are two that are and continue to provide me the ability to overcome the obstacles to become successful, family and physical elements.
When the last breaths of human life flow from the mouth, it is natural to have regrets, and to wonder what could have been possible without the hindrance of failure. Surprisingly, we do not regret what we did in life as much as what we didn’t do. Everyone who has ever lived has made mistakes and encountered failure. The role models of the world, the people who kids look up to as heroes, are no more immune to failure than the men who sell hot dogs outside the baseball stadium. The successes and failures of human beings, past and present, suggest that one’s prosperity is determined by his resilience and grit in times of despair.
Liz Murray overcame colossal odds as she raised herself from being an independent homeless teenager who had barely participated in school to finishing high school in two years and attending Harvard. To do this Liz Murray had to have a lot of resiliency to the negative effects and obstacles attacking her like radiation every day. By comparison the challenges that I have faced in my life are microscopic compared to hers, however in terms of resiliency I would say we share about the same amount. Some obstacles that I have overcome in my life were going from bad grades to good between middle school and high school, better attendance between middle school and high school, and conquering my weakest subject math.

Within Charles Dickens’ thrilling novel Great Expectations one specific character, Miss Havisham, was written with a very complex and interesting personality.
