Jacksonville is a city located in the “Sunshine State.” Situated in northeast part of Florida, Jacksonville has the largest land area of southern cities and is composed of a diverse population including African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians. This city is a melting pot of tourists and travelers who also visit nearby St. Augustine, the oldest city in Florida. The population, according to the United States Census as of July 1, 2016 is 880,619 (United States Census Bureau [USCB], 2016). Men are normally the patriarch of the family and head of the household. Often times, they ignore signs and symptoms of being sick and instead will look for home remedies to avoid visiting the doctor. Men fear becoming diagnosed with a serious illness that will prevent them from providing from their family. Sadly bills and money supersede their health at times. If they are educated on HIV awareness, preventative measures, signs and symptoms, and treatment, it would reduce the spread of HIV. I would implement a teaching program that educates black men on the importance of early detection. The initial plan of action in decreasing the incidence of HIV is to perform a comprehensive risk assessment and risk factors for HIV. The current trend recommends that the healthcare provider screen for HIV infection in
To be honest HIV/Aids is not a virus/disease that aim towards blacks although a large percentage of the African American population is carriers of the virus. From the history of the HIV/AIDS virus, it is known that the virus variation among humans started with homosexual Caucasian males. Many individuals have forgotten this fact and instead they carry around the idea that HIV is a black homosexual virus base on present statistics like this one from the CDC. “Among all MSM, black/African American MSM accounted for
Moreover, the HIV epidemic in this region is almost double than compared to any other regions in the nation. The University of North Carolina has found a number of factors that demonstrate a relatively accurate assessment of increasing number of HIV cases in North Carolina and other parts of the southern region. Migrants can be a marginalized population with significant barriers to accessing preventive services. This process of migration may put Latinos at higher risk for HIV. Through the course of migration many Latinos and Hispanics experiences risky behaviors in multiple sexual partners and an increase in illicit drug use. According to Micah and William, Mexican migrants may be more likely to engage in riskier behaviors following the
African American young men are infected with HIV at an alarmingly high rate in comparison to other races. The negative stigmas that is attached to having HIV in the black community, especially for men can be extremely detrimental and harmful to their overall health. One stigma that was attached to having HIV was death, death was at one time believed to be imminent, and now HIV is about restructuring their lives to face the future (Buseh, Kelber, Stevens & Park, 2008, p.409), yet they still battle other stigmas surrounded around HIV.
African-Americans are the ethnic group most affected by HIV/AIDS. Ironically african-americans represent 14% of the population of the United States , but represent 44% across the gender line. African-american men represent 70% of HIV infections among the ethnic group, however african-american women are also highly at risk of HIV infection. Indeed they have a rate of infection that is 15 times greater than the rate for caucasion women (HIV among African-Americans, 2012). Most African-american women (85%) are infected with HIV through heterosexual sex, often with partners, who claim to be
HIV/AIDS is a disease with social, psychological and physiological consequences for those impacted by the illness. The impact of HIV and AIDS among African American women has been devastating. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC, 2010) reports that black women represent 29% of the estimated new HIV infections among all adult and adolescent African Americans and HIV/AIDS is the third leading cause of death for black women ages 25?44. Several
The African American women age 18-24 who contract HIV have a high mortality rate than other racial groups. African American women are known to be less likely to date outside their race. Although
Jacksonville is Florida’s largest city. The population of this city is 821,784. In 1840, Jacksonville only had a population of 350 residents. In 1901, this city hosted the first college football game in Florida. The game produced a crowd of 2,000 people. Jacksonville is located in Duval county. To insure your home is covered, rates are an average $1,227.
Statistically, black and Latino men are at the highest risk for contracting HIV in the United States. While black people represent only 12% of the U.S population, they make up 44% of people living with HIV. Similarly, Latinos are only 16% of the population and yet 21% of people with HIV are Latino. Because of this staggering disparity the Nebraska Aids Project specifically aims to help these groups; though some of their services are available to the general public and some are more explicitly for those living with HIV. One of the most important services NAP provides is the free HIV testing program. This program provides completely free testing for HIV that can be done either confidentially or anonymously. Nebraska is one of the only states left that allows anonymous testing and while there are some downsides to it, such as the inability to ensure proper health care for those who test positive, it encourages more people to get
Experts agree that understanding these statistics can help to make the claim that the HIV virus is a heterogeneous one; significantly affecting certain populations more than others. This is especially true for African Americans (Sorvillo 930). However, mere statistical evidence is not enough to effectively declare this a health inequity. Further research into the virus amongst the population must be explored.
Being that Blacks/African AMericans make up only 12 percent of the UNited States population, they account for about 44 percent of new HIV infections annually. It is estimated that at least 280,000 Black/African American men and women have died since the the epidemic began. Another race/ethnic group also disportionately affected by HIV/AIDS are Hispanics/Latinos. They make up about 15 percent of the United States population and account for 21 percent of new annual HIV infections. In total both minority groups makes up about 65 percent of HIV/AIDS cases. The likelihood of an African American or Latino male or female contracting the viruses are twice that of their white counterparts (CDC).

Alachua County is located in North Florida and is the 23rd most populated county out of 67 counties. The 2010 United States Census [BLANK] that there were approximately 247,336 individuals living in Alachua County made up of 100,516 households and 53,500 families. The average household size is 2.32 while the average family size was approximately 2.91. Whites are the predominant ethnic group making up 63 percent of Alachua County while African Americans account for 19.8 percent of the population and Hispanics account for 8.8 percent of the population. The Jacksonville Jaguars have the potential to become a powerhouse in the AFC South within the next few years. The Jaguars are loaded with potential throughout their entire roster. They already have their franchise quarterback in Blake Bortles. Although Bortles struggled last year, he still possesses extraordinary qualities and intangibles that will continue to develop and help him blossom into a superstar. Bortles set the franchise record for passing touchdowns in Jaguars history in 2015 with 35 touchdowns. The potential in Bortles is obvious, and the Jaguars are in a great position with him under center for the future.
Various studies show evidence that link the relationship between social determinants of health and the risk for HIV. Interrelated social determinants of health can create a context of vulnerability and risk for HIV. It is very important to be able to recognize the interrelation components of HIV risk in order determine the HIV prevention response that is the most effective. For instance, research shows that HIV rates are significantly higher in Black men who have sex with men (MSM) than for MSM of other races. These rates, which are very disproportionate, are not attributable to a higher frequency of sexual risk behaviors. To appropriately address risk for MSM of different races, it is imperative to understand the process of disease transmission among these populations, in other words, the social determinants of health that are involved, such as access to healthcare (CHLA, 2012).
Sexual misconduct in the workplace has been a problem for women and in recent year’s men as well. Unfortunately, in the past this topic was overlooked until the case of Meritor Savings v. Vinson. We will establish the criteria for determining when unwelcome conduct of sexual nature constitutes harassment according to Title VII. Additionally, we will ascertain how to evaluate evidence of harassment, whether a work environment is sexually antagonistic, holding employers liable legally responsible for sexual harassment by supervisors; and analyzing preventive and corrective action
