This paragraph aims to provide information about my target child strategy to monitor specific skills. His name is Jayden who is 2-year-olds. That was a wonderful time to observe him in his physical development. The objective of the observation is to provide information about what my target child can and cannot do in his physical development. The method that I have used is observation checklist. That can help use that information to set goals for the target child and plan activities that help for the child's progress. Jayden seems average in her gross motor development. Outdoor play today allowed me to check many of the skills. Playing with the ball, he has shown the ability to throw, catch and kick. I think the ball is a good tool to use
This section describes how we, as practitioners, monitor how the children are progressing and in which areas.
The observation tool provided monitors and records a variety of developmental milestones. These observations are used later as a reference to better plan the curriculum for the class. Accurately collecting this information includes an honest, unbiased record of behaviors, regular updates, and a review by other staff members trained in the observation
In order to apply theories and models of child development to support children’s development we must get to know each individual child by building a good relationship with the children through play, communication and answering to their personal needs. Observation and assessment is also key so that we know what each child is capable of and what they are working towards/could be encouraged towards. Good communication with parents is also beneficial as it helps the carer to see what the child is doing at home and to identify if there are things they do or don’t do at nursery that is different from home. It also helps to work out ways of encouraging development at home and at nursery.
It is important that when Observing and recording you of selecting the appropriate method to suit desired aim of the observation it. We do observations to help look at the different areas of development i.e. physical, intellectual, emotional, and social.
| Good way of seeing where the child is with their development – do they need encouragement in a certain area?
Observations- practitioners ask the child to come over to them and do a task which the practitioner would like to see if the child can do it can be as simple as kicking a large ball to knowing whether a child know which way to read the book left to right.
These can be carried out formally and informally. Information from observations on a pupil’s progress is passed onto the teacher who will then report it to the parent/carer.
Observations and assessments can help the teacher plan activities that take into account the individual needs of the children. They also show how a child is developing. In my setting the teacher uses observations when planning and we complete narrative observations on a daily basis.
This type of observation needs some planning, as the observer needs to keep an eye on the children. A sheet is prepared with the times marked out. At the each of the times on the sheet, the observer watches what the child is doing. It is possible to record the activity of more than one child.
It is important to observe the child carefully, closely and to listen to them in different situations to ensure that the teacher is clear about what their needs are, their strengths and difficulties. It is important to observe the
8. Practise! The best way to develop your skills at observing children’s development, learning and behaviour is to do observations on a regular basis.
After observing a nine month old child for this Child Observation paper, the author of this paper has taken copious notes during the session. The purpose of this paper is recognizing the biological, cognitive and psychosocial development of the child. The author of this paper identified the background history of the child, the observation made and the development process of the child.
From the activity what was intended to occur was the children being able to identify physical attributes and from there be able to form sets. Some of the behaviors that I will observe that will indicate that children are learning will be as the children are able to identify things that are the same to form sets, furthermore as they perform forming sets aside from this activity. Some of the things that they will say will be things like “this is the same”, “this is different”, “this person has this, and this person doesn’t”, “this is a set”.
Physically, Fisher has very good small motor skills and large motor skills. On our 2nd visit we worked on a Mother's Day craft which required cutting and coloring. I noticed that he did a good job cutting on the lines and coloring within the lines. On the 3rd and 4th visit I was able to see Fisher's large motor skills when we went out to recess and played games in the gym. When we played sharks and minnows in the game Fisher was able to win one of the games and at recess he enjoyed playing soccer with the other
- There are various types of observation methods in which it is used to identify children’s individual needs. The written narrative method is an easy method in which the practitioner that is observing to write what is seen which means what the child is doing. It is very hard or the practitioner to record and act which means that a small amount of information will be recorded. The vocabulary of the observer would be very poor and the writing maybe unreadable which would affect others using those observation notes. This type of observation is used as a starting point for the future observations. This can be used for any area of development. It is important to know if you are observing only or observing and as well as looking after the child. For this method, only a pen and notepad is required to note down what the child is doing. Some may need a break after writing for a long time and fast but as they take a break, they may miss something important and have not noted it down. Therefore the disadvantage of this method is that it is difficult to write everything down and also record what the child is doing for a long period of time.
