Racism has always been a major problem in America. However, it was known to be the most problematic in the late 1950s. On August 28 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his infamous speech “I Have a Dream” to America. His dream highlighted the injustices of segregation and discrimination of African Americans that took place in this nation every single day. Dr. King inspired thousands despite the color of their skin, to take a stance against racism, with his powerful way with words. In his speech MLK efficaciously uses, Ethos, Pathos, and Logos by using allusions, developing credibility, in his speech to persuade all Americans to be aware of the problems with racism.

Cesar Chavez is an important man who wrote an inspiring speech in September 1965. His brilliant speech explains how industrious farm-workers deserve their rights. As the farmers went on strike, they searched for better working conditions and pay increases. The powerful strike took about six weeks that was still developing. Chavez built an organization supporting farmers in California. Cesar Chavez made a unique speech that left a powerful legacy behind him after people read and heard his speech.

When attempting to present a certain perspective to an audience, the speaker must not merely string a list of monotonous and meaningless words together and call it a speech. Rhetoric, also known as persuasive elocution, has the power to captivate an audience and is essential to any effective oration. The speech I choose was an acceptance speech By Jesse Williams when he won the Humanitarian of the year award at the BET awards. Now this speech probably wouldn't be very appealing to a caucasian person because the main point of the speech is about how black people have been oppressed by white to long. It may sound like he’s targeting whites but he is just speaking up on all the injustices going on in our society to african americans. Also, a white person should not feel offended by the speech and feel as if Jesse Williams hates white people because he is half white. Jesse Williams see the world from multiple perspective being and black and white man. He uses his platform to as an actor to inform the country of our injustices against minorities.

Logos representing the usage of logic and reasoning within the speech or text, ethos representing the writer or speaker’s credibility and pathos representing how the speaker or author establishes an emotional connection with the audience. Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. came to Montevallo High School auditorium on March 3 2017 to talk to the student of Montevallo High School about being together. At the beginning of his speech, he told everyone about his life. Then , he read the , “ I Am Somebody” poem by Rev. William Borders, Sr. At the end of his speech, he called all the 18 year olds to come up to register to vote.

At the Democratic National Convention, the Illinois State Senator, United States Senate candidate, and the future president Barak Obama gave an exceptional speech back then on the night of Tuesday 27, 2004. This convention was a presidential nominating convention, held every 4 years since 1832, by the U.S. Democratic Party. Its goal is to nominate and confirm a candidate for president and vice president positions. And in this 2004 convention Barak Obama was given the keynote spot.

On July 1, 2013, Texas Senator Wendy Davis made a speech at Texas’s State Capitol. She had an audience of about 5,000 people, as she spoke about Women’s Rights and Texan power. In “Stand with Texas Women”, Wendy Davis argues that Texas is all about fairness, so women deserve equal opportunity. Specifically, Davis states that Texas has pushed to be fair, but politicians have been selfish in their careers. Her point is that creating equal opportunity for women will help not only Texan families, but Texas as a whole. She also points out that Texas needs politicians who want what is best for the state and the people. Overall, Davis’s main purpose is to unite Texan women in order to make equal opportunity to improve Texans’ quality of life.

One of the most highly debated proposals from President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address is a new government program that would cover the cost of community college. The “American College Promise” would provide free tuition to students who enroll in a community college for at least half-time, maintain a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA), make steady progress towards completing an associate’s degree and cannot have an adjusted gross income of above two hundred thousand dollars. Obama has stated that the new proposal will benefit roughly nine million students each year by earning them an associate’s degree at no cost. Although the new proposal can be seen as a panacea for all incoming college students, the opposition is true due to the fact that community college is affordable, exclusive, and will hurt the economy by causing the current United States debt to increase.

A value that Calvin Coolidge discussed in his first speech as president of the Massachusetts State Senate is the concept of being the voice of people who cannot be a voice for themselves. He states, "Don't hesitate to be as revolutionary as science". By this he means that as a leader of the people, a person cannot be afraid of failure; but to be afraid to never try at all. In the first two lines of the excerpt, he explains that no matter what it is a person is supporting, they should be supporting it because they believe in it. A true leader stands behind what they feel is right, no matter what obstacles they must face in order to achieve their goal.

I mean I had lots of friends but I just moved back to Newton last year. Now since I am in Chisholm its great but I heard there's a lot of bullying going on there.

Peter Rosnick is a professor at Mount Holyoke College. He did not say who he was voting for, but he did give a detailed explanation of who he would like to be president.
