The Case of Jordan Linn Graham On July 11, 2013, at 9:45 am, the body of Cody Johnson, age 25 was found at the bottom of a cliff in Glacier National Park in Montana. The body of Johnson was recovered 72 hours after he went missing. Just 8 days before, Johnson married a 23-year-old woman by the name of Jordan Graham. Prior to the wedding, friends of Cody Johnson discouraged him from marrying the woman he was in love with. Johnson’s friends discouraged him from marrying Jordan Graham because they did not see the same qualities in Graham that Johnson saw. Levi Blasdel, a good friend to Johnson, noticed that whenever Johnson and Graham would engage in conversation, the conversation would be extremely tense and awkward. A person should always feel comfortable going to their partner and explaining a problem they may have or are concerned about crossing in their future relationship. A person should always feel like they can go to their partner and have no issue or feeling of uncertainty when wanting to talk to them about anything, especially complaints. In Graham’s case, she was not completely comfortable and she paid dearly, as did Johnson. In present day, there is a trend occurring, with more and more people choosing to get married sooner and sometimes these marriages are too immature. Graham and Johnson may have loved each other dearly, but the definition of love is not universal for everyone. People need to understand that a marriage is something that is not meant to be broken, so if they have doubts about the strength of their relationship before getting married, those questions should be addressed immediately and both partners in the relationship should do all they can to help resolve each other’s …show more content…

Typically, domestic violence occurs between a man and a woman, and usually, women end up being the victims more often then men (Heidensohn, 2012). The male is usually more dominant because he is bigger and significantly stronger then the female. However, in recent years, men have been experiencing their fair share of abuse from women. According to a study done by the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men, “Over 90% experienced controlling behaviors, and several men reported frustrating experiences with the domestic violence system. Callers’ reports indicated that their female abusers had a history of trauma, alcohol/drug problems, mental ill- ness, and homicidal and suicidal ideations” (Hines, 2007). This study measured 190 male callers who called the DAHM and the study shows that women can also batter men. This applies to the case of Jordan Graham and Cody Johnson because a wife murdered her husband. No one should ever underestimate someone else’s strength or aggression as those characteristics can be extremely hard to gauge. Cody Johnson may have had no prior knowledge of Graham’s temper and may have even felt as if he were the dominant figure in their marriage. Sometimes, it is easy to accuse a spouse of being the core reason for domestic abuse, whether it is verbal or physical abuse.
