In 9th grade, the first year I moved to florida, the middle school I went to was Jenkins middle school. I didn't join any clubs or any activities but there was one thing that stood out to me. I noticed these kids wearing this military like uniform. I never had the chance to ask but i made sure when i got to high school, i would figure out what it was you had to do to get that uniform. In 9th grade I found out what the program was. I learned it was called JROTC and I immediately caught interest because the kids just looked so good and I was also very much interested in the branch. Now, at that point, I did not consider the military but by the middle of the year I got my least interesting elective changed for JROTC. Even though the class was …show more content…
He looked sharp, the things he was telling me was appealing to the ears and when he mentioned all the places he went for his deployments I knew the MIlitary was the direction I wanted to go. My second year of JROTC was of course 10th grade. That was the year i was able to take the ASVAB. Sadly, I did not get the passing score i needed for the Army but i knew at least that I gained an experience by taking it. I was ready to take it again. The second time that year we took the ASVAB, i still did not get the needed score but my score did improve. I worked with recruiters and studied all material needed to help me achieve my goal of passing the test. Junior year i went for another try...as i knew it, i still did not pass but the studying payed off because i just continued to improve and finally, the second time we took it junior year, I passed! At that moment i knew i was ready to join. That was an accomplishment in itself for me because I was never really dedicated to something as much as I was to passing that test. Sergeant Major long helped me in every way that he could in the class and out of class for the testing. When I received my line scores and my main score of a 33 I was given 15 job offers for The
I come from Killeen, Texas and graduated from Robert M. Shoemaker High School. During my time as a high school student, I participated in JROTC, Civil Air Patrol, and the Knights of Columbus Squires, and the School’s robotics team. In these extracurricular activities, I developed valuable lessons that would benefit me in my time at Texas A&M University and the Corps. In my JROTC unit, I had an Army First Sergeant as a mentor who would instruct me on certain leadership skills and taught me how to be a humble even in the midst of failure or success; In Civil Air Patrol, I was in the unit color guard and earned
I know that I will be able show others that I am worth it by proving them that I can be able to do the impossible, even when it starts to become callous, I am willing to work my way back up by any means necessary for my success in graduating and being a good student. I also would like to join the Marine Corps JROTC is so I can be able to develop the leadership qualities to enable me to assume progressively greater responsibilities to the Marine Corps JROTC and society. It will also help me build a feeling of confidence which will ensure the free approach for advice and help at home and school, not only in military matters but for personal problems. With these newly acquired skills of organization, self-discipline and responsibility that they will be quickly prominent in my high school classes, extracurricular activities, jobs and at the house. These are the reasons why I would like to join and be a part of the Marine Corps JROTC program and family as it will help me tons and will make my life not as stressful. Also, whereas it will show me as a good role model to my family members, especially to my nieces and to my future
This affected my mentalty since i started to come down with my school work becuase i felt like a failure. My second semester i didn't let that discourage me, since i was taking an advance mesures class i wanted to excell. so i passed the year with one C but it's okay becuase i will redeem myself. I did start working in a Quince Boutique when soccer started, which was tough but i managed i would do my homework when there was no clients. It was my first job which was nice being able to work with quince and prom dresses but not so fun dealing while very spoiled girls who got angry for any little thing wrong but i could relate. I did learn how to deal with large amounts of money and how to work around this personal buinessess my boss owned. My junior year is when i started to research roads i can take after highschool and military is something i wanted to presue. So with my patriotic pride i joined the NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserves Officer Training Coprs) program at my school. With no doubt i was proud to be part, wearing my uniform with pride knowing it was the same thing enlisted Shipmen
Twenty-six years ago I a 17-year-old boy joined the United States Army. I served my country faithfully for 22 years, two months and four days; I served in the Transportation Corps. My time in the army was a special period in my life. I gain a lot of life experiences as well as professional ones; the military shaped and molded me into the husband, father son, and brother that I am today. During my service, I grew up and learned several life lessons that would serve me well in and out of the army. To get a real understand on how the military shaped me into the person, I am today; I must first give you some insight into the person I was before I left for basic training. I graduated high school in 1991 just four months’ shy of my 18th birthday;
In the present of JROTC many students join in the thought of maybe one day joining the military and working up to it and getting prepared. They learn strategies and learn how to build their strengths and weaknesses up while learning time management and how to understand people and become a good leader. Prepare for marches and ceremonies and then you go out and actually participate in those activities. JROTC also has many school activities to join like the raiders team, color guard, and
I had my appointment on the previous week at the Writing center. I brought my 2nd project for ENGL 160 class. I scheduled tutor to “face to face”, because I think it is the best way to improve all of my mistakes. Before going to Writing center, I was thinking that this tutor doesn’t help me at all, but fortunately my thoughts was wrong and I enjoyed 1 hour of editing my project.
Since I was three years old, I knew that I wanted to go into the military, specifically the Army. I can remember attending a karate match and before the match, they asked me, “What do you want to be when you get older.” And I replied,” I want to be a soldier.” When I was applying to high schools, I ran across a school called Fork Union Military Academy. My first thought was why I
I was at home talking to my brother after a long day at school. We were looking through old things we had. We took out some boxes from the back of a closet. We pulled out his old memory box and opened it. We found a gold JROTC hat pin, it was shiny with leaves on the side and the letters “JROTC” are bold and shiny. My brother talked to me about his JROTC class, he said that the class teaches you about leadership. He also told me that he was thinking about joining the army. I was thinking
Word had come down that there was going to be some Crew changes. All I wanted was to get off the Two Tank and I wanted off bad. SFC Moton like to joke around a little so when he told me I would was going to be his gunner on the four Tank. I just laughed and didn’t take him serious. I do remember standing in formation when he made the changes and if I could have jump for joy I would have. We stayed out in the Field a lot so eventually you get close with the guys you serve with. After training together in and out of the field for a couple of months I became solid with his commands, the teaching and his leadership style. It was important to know what each other was doing and thinking when your firing a 120mm cannon. I had come to really respect the man for teaching me what I needed to know and drilling me on my job Knowledge. And in Garrison how he always had on a press uniform, spit shined boots, even his motor pool coveralls where pressed. Yes, he was cool the man in my eyes. As time passed we became close and he would share these great stories about his military career and when he was a United States Army Recruiter and women. We always talked about women and the army but a lot about ladies. He liked for me to tell him about my time in Germany and the places I went and the different people. One time in the field when we was shooting Gunnery and I had to ask him why was it so
I spent my middle school years listening to my brother drone on and on about ROTC and about drill team. I was dragged to drill meets, and to random events that I had no interest going to. Eventually
When I first joined the program my freshman year I didn’t think I would enjoy it. I assumed being in NJROTC would be like joining the real military. I actually dropped out of the program after my first year, but thankfully I decided to give it another try to find out what it was all about.
From the beginning of my junior year, I came across the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps website and I decided to apply for the scholarship program. I analyzed every single information on the internet and took every part of the application process seriously, after all, this commitment affects a considerable amount of my future. I continued to research more about the Navy and prepared for the physical assessment test by running a few miles every day and beating my previous push-up and sit-up records. A few months later, after I had enough courage and hope, I excitedly sat down with my whole family and friends to discuss my plan. As I explained through the process, I cannot forget the anxious faces across the table; my parents were very uncertain
I have wanted to go into the military since i was very young. Most children say that they want to be a firefighter or a doctor, but i said that i wanted to be in the military. I remeber looking at pictures and learning about military officers and i felt called to be one of those men. My decision and dreams never changed, as most childrens do when they realize the work required. But for reasons beyond my comprehension, my desire of a miltary life never wavered. Both of my parents' fathers served in the military, one n the Air Force and one in the Army. They told me stories of their days in the military, bragging of their different branhes and I took what they said and choose a school that woud lead to a career in neither of their branches.
I am unique in what I offer to JSA cabinet because I am very passionate about debate and the importance of creating conversations and dialogue in high school students. My experiences with the Dartmouth Debate Institutions allowed me to become familiar with policy and parliamentary debate. I participated in workshops that strengthened my fundamentals and learned the different types of debate. Without my experiences with JSA, I don’t think I would have participated and gotten as much as much as I did out of it. Additionally, my experiences with the Debate club and talking to Emily at school allows me to also become familiar with the JSA format of debate. Since policy, parliamentary, and JSA debate formats all differ vastly from each other, I
When i first found out about parkdales jrotc unit it was my freshman orientation and i did have the class when school started so i begged and begged until i got it i was so excited i joined
