I had my appointment on the previous week at the Writing center. I brought my 2nd project for ENGL 160 class. I scheduled tutor to “face to face”, because I think it is the best way to improve all of my mistakes. Before going to Writing center, I was thinking that this tutor doesn’t help me at all, but fortunately my thoughts was wrong and I enjoyed 1 hour of editing my project. I showed to her my prompt and brought hard copy of it. She orally read 5 paragraphs and after that we began to discuss my grammar and sense mistakes. In addition, she helped me to add connection sentence, to slightly go over from 3st paragraph to 4th. With her help, I amended grammar mistakes which I’ve done, most of them were based on adding “articles” to the words.
The writing center was helpful to me after I gave up on the whiteboard and chose to send an email instead, since one got, kicked off two times for the whiteboard thru the classroom and two issues that were surprising to me. Were the paragraphs and my thesis is a blur, and confusing, next is what did I learn by my writing consultant, and it happen to be helpful. Did my writing improve? Will I use writing center again? One learned since her writing consultant gave some thought for each paragraph needs a point, information and explanation, which spells PIE for an easier way to remember one needs, to fixed her PIE in the paragraph, and to type the thesis clearer not developing by, I thought so, or should of, or should not. She mentions that makes it
I had an appointment with my English class professor at 10am on September 21st. My English professor is Cathy Corder; I am taking her class ENGL 1301. In her class, students usually need to set a conference with her to discuss their draft for their writing assignment. Therefore, the purpose of my appointment for this time is to revise my essay and learn writing strategies from my professor.
The video “A class divided” shows a teacher teaching 3rd graders about empathy. Empathy according to the book is described as the ability to re-create another person’s perspective. Sympathy is your view of another person’s situation. The saying, “Walking in someone else’s shoes” is commonly used to describe empathy. It’s not how you feel about the person’s situation; it’s how you would feel if you were put in their situation.
How many hours of work per day or per week did you generally put into the course?
This meeting was really helpful for me to improve my essay. The Assistant was very kind helping me to fix some grammar mistakes and make some sentences clearer and understandable for the reader by asking me some questions. We also worked on my thesis statement and some topic sentences. She gave me some tips to make the introduction more interesting as well as how to conclude my essay to make the end match with the introduction. I really had such a helpful conversation with her.
There I was sitting in my communications class, more tired than ever before, until Leila Schmidt announced to the class to wake up. At that point, I knew she was talking about me, ever since then I started participating more and been more awake in class. This class helped me improve my public speaking apprehension, participation in class and my nonverbal deliveries. These improvements are very similar to my CIP because I mainly stated how I want to improve on my presenting skills and how I present it. I also wanted to improve on my participation in class. As the semester went on I noticed improvements in all these categories by the way I presented and my grade got better.
I consider justice to be an extremely important part of my life. From a very young age, my parents have instilled in myself and my sister the goals of always doing good to other people, making sure we ourselves are being treated justly, and standing up for injustices which we see in the world throughout our lifetimes. Now that I am not so young, these life lessons mean more to me than ever. Since I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a college whose curriculum is based upon social justice, I came to Cabrini hoping to expand my knowledge of justice, among many other topics. When it comes to this class in particular, my aforementioned goal was achieved to the utmost degree. The interactive style of learning encouraged in my HECG class expressed to me many vital lessons regarding the nature and practice
My first reaction to your essay is this is a legitimate issue. We certainly need to take care of students whose native tongue is not English. I feel the strong suites of the essay are the facts, when I read this I really get a feel for the whole issue and how this program is improving the ELL/ESL student’s education. The only thing that I would of liked to have read about is the inner workings of the Ex.C.E.L. program and how exactly they are helping these students.
ENGL 101 – English Composition I: You, your ENGL 101 instructor and I had a conference to discuss your progress so far in this class. Your instructor has said that your assignments are top notch and you are doing a great progress in his class. He said that you submit papers of good quality, and, more than the grades that you are getting for them, you are learning from the experience of being a college student. Your instructor suggested to take breaks during your study/work sessions to be refreshed and continuing doing the good job you have done thus far.
I was wondering i f you received my email, I am really interested in your class, I had taken a few FCS classes before and I enjoy them and learned so much about working with children and families, that is why I wanted to end my semester with a class that I feel I can succeed and enjoy. Please if you can let me know if you have any space available I would greatly appreciated.
Before I went into this class I knew how to write stories but I didn't write them as good as I do now. I wrote stories when I first went into 10th grade and I didn't know how to write them too well. I never really put in semi colons and transition words in my sentences. When Mrs. Martinez showed me the sheet for the transition words the sheet helped me improve my vocabulary as well as writing sentences. She also show me how to use semi colons and write meaningful sentences using them. Sometimes when I wouldn't use them I would get a lower grade than what I normally got. I never really went to tutoring but sometimes I would go if I needed help on something I didn't understand. Mrs. Martinez helped me understand when I am supposed to use transition words and semi colons. She really helped me on how to use them in sentences so that they can be better than they used to be.
Listening is another weird topic. I must admit, I’m an artist, and we typically do not have the best attention spans. I tend to draw when people talk, because that is how I listen. So, I know listeners are supposed to “control ‘their’ own distractions” (Beebe 71), but I need them to focus. I don’t intend to look like I am bored when I don’t focus on the speaker, drawing is how I do focus. I never had my phone out though, I know that is a big “no”. So while it does not seem like I am “actively listening” I really am. I can say that controlling my distractions is one skill I will be taking from the class.
On Wednesday, the 16th of December, I headed to the writing center to observe a tutoring session. I have waited for few minutes for the tutee to arrive and fill the writing center form. After taking the tutee’s permission I sat along with her few minutes chatting about the wri221 course until the tutor joined us.
Initially , when I came to my first class and I got first assignment for the Eng 121 class, I was very nervous because it was very hard for me. I didn’t know how to write 3 pages essays, journals. But then , I decided that I would work hard and pass with good grades. Even though I tried hard, I didn’t do very well on the first essay and I got only 68 marks. I looked at my professor’s notes and it said that my biggest problem was run-on sentences and sentence structure. I looked at few examples from my essay and realized that it was true. I had some very long sentences, that looked very confusing and messy. My professor suggested that I needed to work more and get tutoring help. They would teach me about sentence structure and grammer. I decided to try tutoring and since then, I am improving. This was very helpful. They would point out my mistakes, explain why I didn’t do well, show me my problems, and I learned a lot from that. We did some exercises; they would show me some run-on sentences and ask me to improve them. I would suggest changes and try to improve
This semester is coming to an end soon. As I reflect on my work in you English 073 class, I can see very clear how much I have learned and improved as a reader as well as a write since the start of the semester. Being in your class has showed me a very valuable lesson which is how to recognize my strengths and weaknesses and learned from them. During the course of this semester, I was able to engage in several assignments and peer edited few of them. The feedbacks that you gave me helped me a lot because it made me conscious of my mistakes and what I needed to to fix them. In the reading section, my portfolio includes the following, The other Wes Moore assignments intro through chapter 4. In the writing section, the portfolio includes the following, definition, narrative, descriptive
