By May 1981, approximately 40,000 women were enrolled in college and university ROTC units throughout the United States. By May 1981, over 32,000 were enrolled in the high school units.In 1987 the first true mission statement for JROTC stated, “Motivating young people to be good Americans,” which was later modified. Today the JROTC mission statement states, “To motivate young people to be better citizens.”JROTC taught combat tactics and combat weapons training, and military based tactics such as first aid. In 1990 everything took a change as a result to a curriculum change. The Curriculum dropped combat tactics and combat weapons training, and increased the focus on citizenship. As of 2005, there are 1420 schools with JROTC programs, approximately 278,000 cadets, approximately 3600 instructors and more than 300 schools on a waiting list to establish their own JROTC program.

I know that I will be able show others that I am worth it by proving them that I can be able to do the impossible, even when it starts to become callous, I am willing to work my way back up by any means necessary for my success in graduating and being a good student. I also would like to join the Marine Corps JROTC is so I can be able to develop the leadership qualities to enable me to assume progressively greater responsibilities to the Marine Corps JROTC and society. It will also help me build a feeling of confidence which will ensure the free approach for advice and help at home and school, not only in military matters but for personal problems. With these newly acquired skills of organization, self-discipline and responsibility that they will be quickly prominent in my high school classes, extracurricular activities, jobs and at the house. These are the reasons why I would like to join and be a part of the Marine Corps JROTC program and family as it will help me tons and will make my life not as stressful. My freshman year of high school I joined JROTC because I knew it would look good on my college/job applications. I knew it was a good program that would help me become a better citizen and I was right; we do community service, service learning projects, and it teaches skills that are hard to improve on your own such as leadership.

JROTC has prepared to be a better citizen by showing me the orals of how a leader should act and how disciplined a leader should be at all times. JROTC has taught me the ways that you should treat a lady and how to serve tables when you got to an event and have a guest sit at your table you stand up. JROTC has also taught me how to put service learning projects together so that the cadets or the people who will be helping know what to do and when it needs to be done by. It also has taught me how to be safe with guns because of the gun safety course. It has also taught me how to show respect a person with a higher rank than me like Sgt. And sir if they are an officer. There is a lot that JROTC has taught me to become a citizen and there will be a lot more that they will teach me. Since freshman year, the Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program has been an invisible hand of guidance that strived to bring out the best in me. This longstanding program has an impact on me in ways so innovative, it is impossible to find another program filled with diverse exhibitions of life lessons, discipline, and teamwork. JROTC has given me a lifelong readiness to combat the harsh realities of the real world that exist, which in return has helped me better myself and my community in contributions to being a citizen in the United States of America.

My experience with JROTC began my freshman year at Forestville Military Academy through my senior year at Parkdale High School. At the very beginning of this opportunity i realized that i enjoyed participating in JROTC more and more everyday that passed. Only problem, like others was the uniform. Of course they were uncomfortable a first but then you get used to it. You get to make the uniform yours. It's almost like a new set of skin that sooner or later you're gonna have to get used to it.Slowly everyday you get a little more used to the way of obeying to the rules. The United States Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, abbreviated JROTC, was established by the National Defense Act of 1916. JROTC serves as a character and leadership development program for the United States’ high school students. High school students enrolled in JROTC are called “Cadets.” There are approximately 314,000 Cadets enrolled in JROTC in 1,731 high schools, drove by 4,000 retired Army Instructors. In the beginning, through the JROTC program, high schools were able to use federal military equipment and assign active duty military personnel as instructors for their classes. In 1964, the Vitalization Act opened JROTC up to the other branches of the military and also replaced most of the active duty instructors with retired members of the armed forces, who worked for and are cost shared by the schools. When working as a JROTC instructor there are many steps in which an instructor must take in order to be a JROTC instructor. There are many certifications that they must go through before even being considered for the job. They must have military experience at a certain rank, they must also pass many requirements that they would normally pass in a military unit. The must show the ability to train others without having to treat students like they are in the military. For some career Soldiers they may be hard to complete. You must have a lot of patience when dealing with high school students. They are not very disciplined and don’t really have a lot of life experiences like a Soldier normally does. I will describe the type of training program of a JROTC instructor must go through and continuously do throughout their time as a JROTC instructor.

Students also have to pass weekly physical fitness tests; comparable to the physical fitness test a Marine would take. JROTC also benefits a student who is planning on going to college; many who participate in JROTC in high school carry that experience with them to college and join ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps). ROTC is a college program that future officers participate in which pays for college tuition and gives a student a better perspective of military life. ROTC programs are also helpful in college tuition. There are scholarships and courses that help an individual prepare to be an officer in the military. Typically the programs are their own courses and take at least four years to complete. After the courses are completed, the individual goes straight to the military for the branch, as an officer, he enrolled in. He also are given many different allowances. The allowances given are usually a housing allowance and a food allowance, depending on the region the individual is attending college. He also gets his tuition paid for, as well as money for books and monthly spending allowance (Yuengling). Worrying about college can be avoided from joining the military. The military even pays for children of veterans and active duty soldiers. Through the military an individual may be relieved, because of all the educational benefits provided for him. The military can help fuel the future of any soldier who wants the benefits.

For some people that have a reason they do not want to go to college right out of high school is because they may be tired of going school. When people look at the economy today, it is tough to get a job that they would want to make a career of without some kind of college credits or even a degree. That is one thing that the military can offer to anyone that does not necessarily want to take that destination in their life. First, they will go to the branch of their choice and attend their boot camp and learning the foundation of the basic knowledge recruits will need to know. Recruits then go to a school, also called A school, but it is a lot faster than taking the time you would to go to college. It is very similar to fast track classes they offer at college except you will go to school for about a month, learning everything you will need to know about your selected job. Once the recruits graduate from A-School it is time for them to deploy to their first duty station and that is where they begin their career. When the service members reach the end of their contract to the military it is the members decision on whether or not they will extend that contract and continue their work for the military, or end their military career and start back

SRRC is were expeled people go and learn from there mistakes and help them get passed them. I relize how I can benifit from this and i have been I have been trying to catch up on credits and take advantage of onlie classes . Over time I relize that I am here to learn from my mistakes and need to learn how to be respectful and repect peers and life itself. You will get therw it even if you think you wont but sometimes you gotta step up to plate and swing and hope for the best.
