At UNK I am a recipient of the KHOP scholarship and I am also a part of the sorority Alpha Omicron Pi. Through these two organizations I have stayed quite involved on campus and in the community. Through KHOP I was invited to join a learning community to be close to other students going through the same classes that I was. It was a great experience and it helped me increase my understanding in many of my classes. I was able to form study groups with some of the other students from the learning community. This helped me when I had questions but also helped me understand the material better by being able to teach it to the others in the group that didn’t understand it. Also through KHOP I have been given the chance to volunteer with many …show more content…
I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, getting to paint the house that they already built. Another volunteer activity I have done is with the Arc of Buffalo County by assisting in their Honey Sunday fundraiser by going door to door and selling honey. We also have certain fundraisers and volunteer events that we do within our sorority. One of these events is Sisters for Soldiers. Sisters for Soldiers is a night where we pack boxes of small necessities and candies and send them overseas to soldiers. Part of this event is volunteering to sit outside of grocery stores and asking for donations as well as recruiting members from the community to come and help with our event. Another one of our fundraisers is our Strike Out Arthritis Dodgeball Tournament that we put together every year. Each year we host a dodgeball tournament to raise funds for the Arthritis Foundation. We go around campus and the community to ask students and community members to participate in the event by either making a team or buying raffle tickets. All proceeds go to the Arthritis Foundation and without the support of all the Alpha Omicron Pi chapters in the United States the Arthritis Foundation would not have the funds available to be able to continue
As far as community service, I volunteered at a local activity center and worked at a local salvation army thrift store. At the NorthWest Activities Center, I assisted employees with organizing invoices, answering phone calls, making any reservations
This past Fall we separated and went to different organizations and helped with their needs. I went to Webster-Rock Hill Ministries who helps people in our own community with the simple necessities. They have a big office area where they help their clients and try to find them a job to support their families. We helped move food, clean floors, clean the kitchen, plant bushes, and organize the storage room. It was gratifying seeing how grateful the clients and volunteers were for our helping hand.
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
In the course of my time at Union County College, I was able to participate in measures that aided my community and those in need. I took part in the donation and creation of care bags which were donated to the Salvation Army. This initiative was made by AESNJ as part of their statewide drive to help those who lack the resources needed to obtain day to day necessities such as hygienic supplies, socks, tissues and other essentials. Additionally, I made a financial contribution which went towards aiding Syrian children. Helping individuals in need encouraged me to participate in Strides against Breast Cancer a walkathon which generated money for women whose lives were impacted by cancer. The financial donations assisted women who were unable
I currently have 85 volunteer hours, but I continue to volunteer. I volunteered at my local branch of Habitat for Humanity where I cleaned and restored furniture that was later sold. The profit was donated to local charities in my county. I also volunteered at the local International and Greek Festivals. I assisted the vendors at these festivals. These festivals expose the people of my city to different elements of many cultures. I joined and assisted the FSU Office of College Access Programs, which is an office at my local university where a group of college readiness programs are located. These programs provide help to high school students in my county, and I help by doing tasks for the people who work there and helping at their events. I volunteered at local museums and participated in The Second Harvest Food Drive, an annual event in which my school collects cans for our local Second Harvest Food
Yes. At my high school, I’ve participated in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) course as well as been a part of the CyberPatriot and Academic Bowl teams offered by the organization. Unfortunately, I could only spend two years of my high school career in that organization due to the lack of schedule space. I’ve also been a part of the International and National Honor Society clubs. The International Club was a club of students that helped to promote and express the different cultures at my school. As for the National Honor Society, we’ve helped the community by completing service projects, such as the Ronald McDonald House t-shirt sale and the Relay for Life event. In terms of school teams, I was a member of the Scholastic Competition
Since the summer of eighth grade I have volunteered at Essentia Health Hospital making tie blankets for inpatients. These patients are able to take the blankets home with them when they are well enough to leave the hospital. Moreover, I volunteer at my local church for a once-a-month food share. I help unload the food from the truck, sort out the rotten produce, and distribute the food among the shareholders. Additionally, I clean up highways and trails as a part of Green Club ,and I partake in numerous other volunteer opportunities within my school
Most recently I have organized a project that helps students and staff in Parkland, Florida that were affected by the school shooting. Group of friends wrote letters expressing our support and condolences. This was the
We also helped plan and attend various fundraisers at different locations around Gainesville. I helped organize and set up our main event, a walk, to raise money for congenital heart disorders. Furthermore with Kappa Alpha Theta’s philanthropic committee, we planned a capture the flag tournament and dinner to raise money for abused and neglected children. I also had the opportunity to plan and attend a senior citizen prom for a community service club in high school. I had the duty of helping to invite various assisted living homes around the community, setting up venue ,and advertising the event.
The sorority is a volunteer based organization so most of the volunteering I do is with them, although I have done a couple of things on my own. We worked a lot of salvation army this past year. I helped salvation army fill goody bags for the neewollah parade. I also helped salvation army interview people to see if the families were eligible to receive Christmas presents for their kids for the 2015 Christmas. On my own, I helped salvation army give out the gifts to the people who were eligible. I recently volunteered to sit on a panel and discuss questions high schoolers had about
To developing a trusting relationship with (K.B) I used active listening and consistent eye contact while asking her to identify and express feelings associated with things that bug her. A series of questions were asked pertaining to this topic to assess (K.B) level of insight about the things that annoy her.
I have done a lot of volunteering through my church with Vacation Bible School and several holiday celebrations. I also volunteered at Kettering Health Network Hospital for the summer of 2013. I would help discharge patients. During the
Summer to senior year of high school is approaching in a couple months; I guess it’s that time of year again to figure out what I’ll be doing over the summer. As I’m scrolling through the news feed on Schoolloop, the place where all the internships are posted, my eyes widen at an internship similar to an owl sitting on a branch of a tree in the middle of the night hooing. This internship was called KP LAUNCH, also known as Kaiser Permanente LAUNCH internship program. As I read the description of the program, I already knew that this program was a great fit for me, especially for my future because I want to be in the medical field, but as I read further, the part where it said that this program only accepts 15 applicants, stopped me from printing
This includes volunteering at Cradles to Crayons, an organization that helps people living in poverty get the essentials they need, I have also raised money for Multiple Sclerosis and the American Cancer Society through an annual bike ride both organizations offer.
I help run monthly meetings and report our activities to our local Rotary Club. Our club has volunteered at many places including Christmas in Carterville, Hurricane Creek Assisted Living, Parkway Manor, Gumdrops, and the Black Tie Masquerade Gala. Our club was started just this year and we celebrated one year of serving the community by getting a mascot for our club.
