Katniss a sixteen-year-old girl who takes her younger sister's place in an arena where twenty-four tributes will battle each other until there is one left standing, Susanne Collins wrote a book about this called The Hunger Games. Katniss is great with a bow and arrow during training sessions and the Games this skill was a way of protecting, and killing. During this time in the book, the bow and arrow became a great way to kill animals for food or money to trade in at the hob, the hob a place located in District Twelve where they trade food, cloth, and yarn. Everyone has emotions, however, not everyone is willing to share what they are. When Mr. Everdeen was working in the mine when there was an explosion in the mine, as a result to this Mr. Everdeen was killed. Keeping Prim and Mrs. Everdeen fed throughout the years when Mrs. Everdeen was depressed, due to the death of her husband. Katniss goes to the woods daily to find food, keeping an open mind while looking, “As long as you can find yourself, you'll never starve.”52 Katniss, Prim, and Mrs. Everdeen never did starve. Always having roots, wild meat, and milk or cheese from Prims Goat Lady. Even when Katniss was gone for The Hunger Games, the motherly qualities were still used. Katniss protected Rue during the games as if she was a second sister to Katniss, when Rue was hit with the spear Katniss stayed with her singing a simple lullaby she heard when the “Birds are settling down for the night singing lullabies to their young.”183. Hearing this song at school teacher, used the name mountain air for this lullaby. When Claudius Templesmtih announces over the speaker that two tributes can win who are from the same district. Cleaning Peeta’s wounds and clothes, allowing him to “doze off while his clothes dry out”259 she wakes him when it is late afternoon.
