Katniss a sixteen-year-old girl who takes her younger sister's place in an arena where twenty-four tributes will battle each other until there is one left standing, Susanne Collins wrote a book about this called The Hunger Games. Katniss is great with a bow and arrow during training sessions and the Games this skill was a way of protecting, and killing. During this time in the book, the bow and arrow became a great way to kill animals for food or money to trade in at the hob, the hob a place located in District Twelve where they trade food, cloth, and yarn. Everyone has emotions, however, not everyone is willing to share what they are. Whereas Katniss’s emotions, from not willing to be shown, letting herself get into the interview, and making …show more content…
Some of the other districts are wealthier, and are trained throughout the years “Almost all of the boys and at least half of the girls are bigger than I am, even though many of the tributes have never been fed properly.”94 So during the training session try to keep the greatest skill a secret, until the private session where the Gamemakers will watch to see the types of skills that range throughout the twenty-four tributes. Katniss line up to shot the bow, but something went wrong, the arrow misses feeling humiliated when the Gamemakers laugh and look away. Some essentials needed to live would be safe drinking water, something to eat, and a bow and arrow would be a good thing to have ““Even a weak bow is better than no bow at all.””39 Having a weapon to defend yourself, is a way to stay alive in the Games to be able to return home to family and friends. When the District 1 boy kills Rue “My arrow drives deeply into the center of his neck”233, dropping him to his knees. Protecting everyone in the surrounding area as Katniss holds Rue's hand to try to keep her alive. Using the bow and arrow during the Games helped protect and kill, is very helpful to …show more content…
When Mr. Everdeen was working in the mine when there was an explosion in the mine, as a result to this Mr. Everdeen was killed. Keeping Prim and Mrs. Everdeen fed throughout the years when Mrs. Everdeen was depressed, due to the death of her husband. Katniss goes to the woods daily to find food, keeping an open mind while looking, “As long as you can find yourself, you'll never starve.”52 Katniss, Prim, and Mrs. Everdeen never did starve. Always having roots, wild meat, and milk or cheese from Prims Goat Lady. Even when Katniss was gone for The Hunger Games, the motherly qualities were still used. Katniss protected Rue during the games as if she was a second sister to Katniss, when Rue was hit with the spear Katniss stayed with her singing a simple lullaby she heard when the “Birds are settling down for the night singing lullabies to their young.”183. Hearing this song at school teacher, used the name mountain air for this lullaby. When Claudius Templesmtih announces over the speaker that two tributes can win who are from the same district. Cleaning Peeta’s wounds and clothes, allowing him to “doze off while his clothes dry out”259 she wakes him when it is late afternoon. Katniss will be able to use these motherly qualities during her time as a mentor for the
But by her also helping out around the house with her younger sister Prim. In the novel "Hunger Games," the author talks about how Katniss Everdeen goes through the meadows to get to a fence that is forbidden for District 12 to go across but Katniss goes anyways to hunt and together food for and her with the skills that her father had taught her before he passed away in the mines. The braveness that is in Katniss here is how she takes the chance to go across that fence that is supposed to keep District 12 people in and she goes to gather food for her and her family. But she is taking a chance that could cost her life by doing something for others. Another point that is talked about in the novel the "Hunger Games" is how Katniss's hunting friend Gale makes a joke on how if they did not have so many kids
After Prim’s name was pulled for the Reaping, Katniss volunteers to take Prim’s place as female tribute for District 12. The text states,“I reach her just as she is about to mount the steps. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me.‘I volunteer!’ I gasp. ‘I volunteer as tribute!” Katniss’s actions show the caring in her heart when she takes her sister Prim’s place as tribute. That was no small action because as she says later in the story, a tribute in District 12 is the same as a corpse, yet she still takes Prim’s place. Shortly after Rue and Katniss team up, Katniss gives Rue the majority of the food they are eating, and offers to help her set snares. In the text it says,“I’ll bet meat hardly ever comes her way.‘Take the other...Take whatever you want. Now that I’ve got a bow and arrows, I can get more. Plus I’ve got snares. I can show you how to set them.” This shows that Katniss is a caring person because she gives Rue most of her food. Although Katniss doesn’t even know if she can trust Rue, she teams up with her and protects her. To conclude, Katniss cares for those whom she loves and provides for them to keep them alive, and in turn, they keep her alive
Katniss then receives aid from a guy named Peeta, who was chosen as the male tribute for her district. Katniss and Peeta had met before, briefly. Peeta threw Katniss bread when she was starving in the rain. A guide Katniss encounters is Haymitch. He gives advice and training to Katniss and Peeta on how to win the Hunger Games Haymitch previously won the games for their district). A particular item that has significance to Katniss would be a bow and arrows. She is very skilled with the weapon and uses it to hunt.
Katniss is the protagonist of the novel. She is a tough, self-sufficient, extremely loyal girl whose childhood was cut short by responsibility. After her father died, her mother sank into a deep depression, so it was up to Katniss to feed the family. One evening, she was going through others' trash in desperation when Peeta Mellark purposefully burned bread from his family's bakery and gave it to her. She feels like she owes him for that action, because after that she realizes the forest will be how to feed her family. She and her friend Gale regularly hunt wild game and gather food, selling some and keeping some for their families. Katniss dearly loves her younger sister Prim, so much so that she volunteers to go to the Hunger Games in Prim's place. Though Katniss could very easily feel bitter towards her more sheltered sister, instead she is fiercely protective of her. During the Games, this protectiveness transfers to another young tribute named Rue who Katniss grows very close too and mentors as she were an older sister to Rue.
“ I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute.” Says Katniss Everdeen, the main character in my book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins . Has someone that you love ever been in danger? Prim Rose Everdeen has been chosen as the girl tribute for district 12. Her older sister Katniss volunteers in her place because of how much she cares about her . Katniss Everdeen is Prim’s sister and also the main character in the book “The Hunger Games.”, by Suszanne Collins. This an action packed distopian book that show what the world could be like in the upcoming years if we don’t fix our culture. I believe that Katniss is a brave and courageous person and that love for someone can overcome anything.
When hunger games start the tributes (participates) pick up their packages and run. Katniss however, does not pick up her package and run just as Haymitch had advised her. She goes deep into the forest and tries to stay hidden from other tributes for fear that that might kill her. She’s afraid but she was also a skilled survivor so she tries to work on a plan of winning the games. She contemplates the odds of her survival, as an ally she had befriended earlier dries. During this journey she discovers her true self and the battle she was once having within herself changes to resentment towards the Capitol. She realizes that true enemy in the Capital. “Rue was death has to forced me that confront by the own fury against the cruelty. No way is
Katniss Everdeen, the main character is seen in an incessant state of anguish, worrying about her beloved younger sister Prim, without the slightest concern for her own welfare, an idiosyncrasy that robustly contradicts with the typical perfect and flawless main character portrayed in almost all action/adventure films. The controversial scene then ends with the fearless Katniss Everdeen taking her sister’s place and volunteering for her in the Hunger Games after she had been conscripted. There are even ceaseless ties made between District 12 and World War II concentration camps ranging from the rag like clothing to the groups of hopeless children with guns aimed at their face, further deliberating Katniss’s initial mother like and selfish instincts when preferring to worry about her sister in an environment that can be related to a significant historical atrocity. As a set-up for the rest of the film, this sequence plays an important role in constructing the underlying theme of the film as a whole. The fact that Katniss finds her own empathy, sense of caring and compassion and her journey of going from a un-trusting and instinctive girl to a strong moraled, selfless woman that would rather die than take an innocent human life. An
In this novel, Katniss who possesses the ability to hunt with great ease and knowledge, is called to save her sister Prim's life, when she is announced as a tribute. When two people chosen from each district are to participate as ‘tributes’ in the Hunger Games, Katniss does something completely unheard of for
The Hunger Games, a novel by Suzanne Collins, is the story of 16 years old, Katniss Everdeen, who fights to death for her district. The Hunger Games is an event hosted every year by the Capitol of Panem, where a randomly chosen boy and girl both need to represent each of the twelve districts that the capitol is composed of. When Katniss little sister, Prim, is chosen to be the representative for District twelve, Katniss volunteers to take her place and fight along her male counterpart, Peeta. The reason I choose this book for my book report is because Katniss is not your typical 16 year old girl. Not only is she her family’s provider but she’s also skillful, strong, rebellious, and unsentimental heroine. These are characteristics that society would mostly link to a 16 year old boy rather than a girl.
While preparing for the Hunger games, Katniss and Peeta meet their mentor Haymitch who gives them advice. At the start of the games, only 11 of the contestants survive and Katniss decides to stay far away from the others to survive as long as she can in the game. This plan fails because the man controlling the game creates a forest fire where Katniss is staying; this forces her to stay closer to the others. She meets up with her partner Peeta who has already made them some allies in the game. The next day Katniss watches one of her allies (Rue) cut down a wasp’s nest, which lands on some of the other contestants, most of them escape but one of them dies from the venom.
During the reaping, Katniss sister Primrose Everdeen gets elected. However, surprisingly Katniss volunteers herself to take over her sister's place in the reaping. During, The Hunger Games each tribute has to fight for survival, finding water, shelter, food, and most of all for their own life. Throughout The Games, each tribute is being televised live. Every citizen of each district is obligated to watch these violent brutal fights until the end.
Katniss finally arrives to the Capitol. Here is where things start to change and life as she knows it is completely different. The first thing on the agenda is to cleanse Katniss. She is waxed from head to toe and is washed down for Cinna (her stylist) to create the new Katniss Everdeen “Girl on Fire”. After being completely transformed, Katniss and Peeta (the boy tribute from
During the first games, Katniss's character slowly evolves into The Hunger Games trilogy. Katniss is very humble and focused. She is all about protecting her family. When she left for the capitol, Katniss goes to say her goodbyes to everyone. Furthermore, Prim makes her promise that she will try hard to win. Katniss tells her mother to watch over Prim despite her mother being very ill and sick. Throughout The Hunger Games she stays focused and attentive. Her mind was only set on protecting her loved ones. Even when Katniss struggled with her individuality, her priorities remained the same, which was protecting her mother, sister and Prim.
In the beginning, Katniss is living the hard life of her district. She goes to school and hunts so that her family has food. She has a younger sister named Prim and a mother, however it is time for the reaping which is when the Capitol picks names out of a bucket for one boy and one girl from each of the 12 districts to participate in the Hunger Games, a fight to the death tournament where the winner gets fame and fortune. Prim gets chosen to participate in the games, but Katniss volunteers to take her place(22). A boy from their district named Peeta also gets chosen and Katniss realizes that he had given her bread when she didn’t have food for her family. They go to the Capitol and meet their mentor, Haymitch(56), who helps them train, then they go into the arena and battle. Peeta joins up with some Careers, children that trained for the Hunger Games all their lives, and tries to win but then he betrays them. The Gamemakers make a rule change and say that two tributes from the same district can win together so Katniss finds Peeta and helps him because he has been injured. After they are the only two people left the Gamemakers change the rule back to force Katniss and Peeta to fight each other, rather than fight, Katniss takes some poisonous berries, called Nightlock, she found in the arena and gives half of
she lands herself in some very challenging situations. On one occasion she comes face to face with career tributes and manages to kill two of them with some clever tactics. The servicing career tributes latter become Her toughest competition. After the incident she teams up with a girl named Rue from district 11 together they plan an attack on the Careers. Rue starts a fire to district the tributes while katniss located their supplies and destroyed them. Although the plan was successful Rue was killed while executing her part of the scheme. Katniss goes on to find the other tribute that came with her from her district and helps him out, because of their relationship the capital changes the rules and allows two survivors to return instead of one . in order to speed up the games the district invites the tributes to a feast where they find items the they need. Katniss decides to go to the feast which leaded to an altercation between her and the career tributes and eventual the
