A college education can increase a workers’ productivity in various ways. Generally a college graduate enters into the labour market with more knowledge and higher skills than a non-college graduate. These higher skills can be improved thinking, writing, communication and problem solving; which increase productivity. The thinking processes increases the application of their knowledge which increases their productivity and efficiency.

Education is one of the most important assets a country can offer in terms of the future. Education is what drives technical advances and helps form the general structure of the country. Both Person A and B are extremely intelligent and hardworking; the difference between them is their opportunities. They both have access to primary school, and do very well. Person A goes on to graduate from a secondary education, but Person B cannot because he does not have access to it. Person B gets an unspecialized job, where he cannot utilize his brainpower. His potential is wasted. After graduating from his secondary education, Person A goes for a tertiary education, where he gets a degree in engineering. He uses his degree to help his country develop. Now, imagine a country primarily populated with people like Person A. The country would develop rapidly. A country primarily populated with people like Person B, however would hardly develop.

The term competitiveness defines the ability of a region to export more than its imports while including all “terms of trade” to reflect government legislation and import barriers. In other words, according to the world competitiveness report, competitiveness is “… the ability to design, produce, and market goods and services, the price and non- price characteristics of which form a more attractive package than those of competitors.” (Pg3.) Each nation has different competitiveness level, which relies on multitude factors such as; raw materials, innovative technologies, energy prices, the type of economy, legislations, and the exchange rate fluctuations. Nevertheless, the prosperity of countries depends on the nation’s competitiveness status.

As previously noted, one of the common debates in political science is the extent to which state control of the economy influences economic growth. According to some, democratic institutions guarantee economic growth while a heavy state hand in economic policies causes stagnation. However, in the non-free market economies, education seems to have played a major role and has synergized with the necessary adaptability to the changing global technological infrastructure. It is very important for every country to emphasis on college education because it helps a country grow faster. Also, educated people have more productive mind than uneducated people. Less educated people are being denied by companies.
