When people think of the kern county fair, they ordinarily think of rides, food, maybe concerts. But when I think of the fair, I think about the animals, about showing animals. For five years I have showed goats at the kern county fair. But there are many animals that people show like pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, horses, llamas, alpacas, and bunnies. Then there is the poultry which is chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, and even pigeons. You probably never heard of someone doing something like this, but let me tell you this it is done all over the united states. During a livestock show there is an exhibitor (me) and they are exhibiting an animal, and that animal is judged on traits specific to that animal. I’m doing something unique, when I show …show more content…
Some people who show get inspired to work with animals in the future. Some of them end up going to college to become a judge for livestock shows. My friend morgan who’s been showing with my sisters since I was like three, is going Cal Poly right now for that reason. Doing this activity takes a lot of dedication, from around May to about October I am waking up early to feed my goats, then working and feeding them every night. Also I have to weigh them every weekend and keep track of their weight. Showing and taking care of goats is a lot of work, but in the end it is so much fun. When you win something big and you know that all your hard work paid off is the best feeling. Anybody can show an animal, you can join a 4-H club, or when in high school you can do FFA, and doing both clubs will teach and help you with your project. I love showing and all that comes with it, even the work. Working with my sisters and friends from my 4-H group on my animals, are some of my favorite memories. People never really see this part of the fair, but to me it’s my favorite part and always will be. Nevertheless showing will forever be a part of my life, even when I am not doing it
Is it humane to show at the county fair? Is it worse that kids in 4-H are making money for showing off projects that are actually animals with their own rights to live free? It is not inhumane for kids to show and sell animals at the county fair because those kids are learning what farming is like in that aspect. They are also working with those animals for very long periods of time to get them to learn to do what the child wants them to do. The animals are also known as projects because the kids are doing book work and learning about the animal as a learning tool. The money the kids make from showing and selling these animals is just a reward for all of the hard work these kids put into teaching the animals to do what the kids want them to do. It is also to try to get them to stay in 4-H because as long as they are in 4-H or FFA the kids are learning to work and become productive citizens later in life.
This is my first year showing an animal at the fair ,but I am excited to continue growing with the many experiences to come in the following years. I have gained knowledge from how to properly fit and groom in addition to learning about responsibility, time management, public speaking, and keeping records of my expenses , hours and income. On top of that, I also learned volumes about how the FFA works and what its real purpose is. The FFA isn’t
I have always had an affinity for animals; my entire life I have been surrounded by dogs, cats, parrots, guinea pigs, and other miscellaneous creatures. Part my passion for animals turned to showing guinea pigs competitively during middle and high school for five years. Sowing guinea pigs is much like showing rabbits; the quality of the animal determines show placement. At the height of my showing career, I had over one hundred guinea pigs for breeding and showing that I personally cleaned, fed, watered and nurtured. During my time showing guinea pigs, I formed connections with people from varying backgrounds and regions, and I even attended shows that were held in Canada. I put in a lot of hours taking care of and handling my animals and was rewarded with numerous Best in Show awards. My time showing guinea pigs taught me to be committed to activities that I enjoyed, how to care for animals, and also allowed me to travel the state and out-of-country to interact with people.
Showing goats has been apart of my life for about four years. It all started when my mom asked me if I wanted to show goats and I immediately said yes! Ever since, showing has impacted my life in many ways and has taught me many life skills that will follow me forever. But what really does showing mean to me? Showing is something I really love and will do for as long as I can till I graduate high school. It has taught me, its not all about the buckles or banners. It’s about hard work and the fun you have put into it. Showing animals has brought me out of my shell and I have made many friends along the way. I have grown in my FFA chapter and my 4-H club. The friendships will last forever and its amazing how many friendships bonds I have made just because we have common interest and that we show the same animals. Showing is something I’ve also really been into and something every year I succeed in by learning new skills. This past season I won showman ship at the county show. I was super excited because I won my first buckle and
This year had a new twist to the contest. We had to show beef, sheep, swine, and rabbits, but we couldn't show our own animals. Abby, Mikayla, and I walked around the barns to find animals to show. We went to beef first. “Hey Brooke, can we show three of your cows for round robin?” we asked in unison.
[I] love the barn and all of the animals that the kids work with and watching all the livestock shows with all the kids showing animals. By far the best attraction at the fair,” Derek Copple said.
Personally I think that Los Angeles is the best place to live in among the suggested cities. I will mention both advantages and disadvantages of living there and compare LA with another major American cities.
Living in Los Angeles I believe is different compared to living in any other city in the United States. No other city really compares, at least I believe. Los Angeles is an extremely diverse city and every community differs from the next. There are numerous subgroups in Los Angeles, that really if one moves to the city, one will fit in right away with a specific group. I believe Los Angeles attracts people from all over the world because of how accepting the city is. I work in the Financial District part of Downtown Los Angeles, and even in downtown you will find different subgroups. Just in downtown you will find the Financial District, Jewelry Mart District, Flower, Fashion, Art and, so on. All of these is basically within walking distance
In Los Angeles many people have cars and tend to live in houses. But over the last decade Los Angeles has accumulated a little over 10million people. An there are still people coming from all over the world; Because of the perfect weather, nice scenery, and sexy people. Now I told you this because people aren’t buying houses any more. No sir everyone is living in apartments, condos, and in pit house sweets in hotels. They are all being built around one thing. Public transportation buses, bike station where they can rent it with an allotted amount of time. Having companies build right next to the metro so it is an easy commute; all have to do is remember your stop. The metro has been booming with people so the city is building more condos and apartments. This increase in population produced jobs, living arrangement and mobility. With rapid growth of population there are going to be more and more cars and less road to drive on. Will increase public
An agricultural fair is a time for many people to show off all of their talents and hard work, whether it is baking a cake, making a craft, or raising livestock to show,
The Clay County Fair is the most important week of the entire year for me. I was born on the Friday before the ‘99 fair. I have celebrated my birthday each year here. This yearly event has helped shaped my passions and how I approach life. Being apart of the fair has allowed me to develop my skills as a community member and value the time spent to enrich others experiences. Through raising and showing livestock, I have been able to hone my husbandry abilities and share my love of agriculture. I have made several spins around the show ring mentoring younger kids as they showed their animals. I help calm those afraid to go “woodchip surfing” behind their calves. I reinforced my love for educating others by giving showmanship tips to nervous first-year showman. The fair has expanded my knowledge towards career opportunities when I assisted the “Ag-Citing” children’s day, presenting my animals to the curious third graders. We reassure the inquiring minds of interested, by explaining how we care for the animals. I have given many
Since Earth’s beginning, change has been a continual phenomena, and it has not slowed down. In today's world it isn’t the planet itself that is drastically changing, but the technology and lifestyle of the people on it. For centuries people have attempted to see the future before it happens; attempting to predict how the world will change. It is not easy to predict the world ahead of us, but it is not impossible either. Based off of past events and people that saw the world of their tomorrow, an attempt can be made to do the same thing today. Many science fiction writers, such as Jules Verne, have predicted many of the future’s fruits. Another measuring stick for the world ahead of us has been the world’s fair. Both these sources provide a
Every small town is a picture perfect community set in the middle of nowhere. We’ve all heard of this type of town where no one’s house is close enough to see but everyone knows everyone’s name and there are no strangers. Typically these types of towns revolve around one thing; high school football. What happens when your small town is not one of the typical small time communities? What happens when the people of your town are all farmers? The answer is easy, you show. You show all sorts of animals from goats and lambs all the way to pigs and cattle. Showing livestock is valuable for building character and learning how the world works, but it also benefits the entire community.
But more importantly, one of the primary reasons to go to the fair is for the opportunity to ride those spectacular thrill rides! Sure, some of the them look as if they have been around for the past hundred years and are in desperate need of a repair check, but that's no reason not to give them a whirl. Truth be told, that's half of the fun, hoping the ride doesn't fall apart while on it. There is absolutely nothing like the Alabama National Fair and the grand splendor of those big, bright, colorful lights of the midway rides.
Title: Should animals be used in circuses for entertainment purpose? For years animals have been used in circuses for performances to entertain audiences. While acknowledging the fact that many of the circus animals are not seriously maltreated, this essay holds the view that training animals for performances in circuses should be banned since it is inhumane as it deprives animals of their freedoms and potentially poses threat to both their physical and psychological behaviours. To commence with, circuses are unlikely to provide adequate spacing to circuses animals, especially when they are touring around. Unlike those animals kept in zoos, not only the enclosure sizes of the animals has to be compromised for their portability, the environments
