Shenmue 3 breaks Kickstarter
Whilst some might say that Kickstarter is little more than an unnecessary middle-man, many others have argued that it has revolutionised the way in which the creative industry interacts with its fans by effectively bridging the gap between creator and consumer. Though the jury is still out on the validity of this argument, it can't be denied that certain projects would have never seen the light of day without it, with everything from movie projects to TV series and major electronic products being funded through the site, which only launched in 2009, but has already risen through the Alexa ranks to 374, and has earned its place in popular culture.

And this was back in 1999! That budget has been dwarfed numerous times over by some of today's bigger titles of course, but take into account that this was an exclusive title for Sega's unfortunately ill-fated Dreamcast console, and it becomes clear why it's been more than 14 years since the series came to a dramatic halt after the (far superior) sequel in 2001. For me personally, the first two Shenmue games rank amongst the most unique and cinematic games ever created, even now, and after the cliffhanger ending of the second instalment, and I have been waiting patiently for a follow-up ever since. So, it would appear, have countless …show more content…
It was so popular in fact, that the enthusiasm for the project temporarily broke Kickstarter! Take THAT Kim Kardashian. The total currently sits at 41,000 backers, who have pledged more than $3 million, and there's still 29 days to go on the campaign, with new stretch goals being added almost daily.
The game's monumental Kickstarter success raises a number of interesting questions, chief amongst which is whether or not we'll see the model being adopted by larger companies and larger projects It also raises a point that Kickstarter campaigns have almost become their own form of free viral marketing, a self-fuelled fire of hype spurned on by delirious fans (in this case I count myself among their number) and the media. Questions also remain surrounding Sony's involvement with the project. The game was announced to the world at large during their press conference at this year's E3 (which I'll be covering in more detail next week) and it's been announced as a PS4 title, though so far the Kickstarter page seems to focus more on the PC version of the game. If Sony if partly funding the game and using the Kickstarter campaign as a means through which to judge public interest levels in it, that would surely be a bold move
Capitol C takes a compelling look at the pheoneneom of crowdfunding. It's hard to not to receive an ask to support a Kickstarter or Indiegogo project on a daily bases anymore. Personally, I have only backed one crowdfunding project, it was a documentary about kids with autism. Why haven't I backed more? It's Not because I don't trust the process or believe in the product or ideas, it's just
To those who have a negative opinion to such sites as GoFundMe, I understand why. The story of Elza was empowering, and the next examples I have are disappointing at best. One of the most inappropriate campaigns was that of Victoria Byers. The twenty-six year old woman was tired of men trying to hit on her over Facebook, she made a campaign for those men to pay for her bills and beautification is exchange for pleasure. GoFundMe tried taking it down as to say it was against their policies but Victoria got a lawyer and ended up keeping her post and all the money she raised. After sixteen days, she raised sixty dollars and took the campaign down. GoFundMe is infamous for fans trying to raise money for their celebrity idols. In this particular instance, Seattle Seahawk fans saw Ciara – singer and partner of Russell Wilson – as a jinx on Wilson’s career. Their goal was to raise $50,000 in order to coax Wilson to kick her to the curb. As their logic may have been flawless, $50,000 isn’t even a dent to what Wilson makes per game. It most likely wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Being an athletes is one of the best-paid jobs on Earth. Being that they are paid so much the cost for the consumer is very high. The prices of tickets and sports memorabilia have been steadily rising over the years. The average ticket prices for the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL all rose 5% to 10% this year, according to Jon Greenberg, executive editor of Team Marketing Report. (Mihoces).
The cost of college tuition is continually on the rise and has placed many burdens on high school students as well as their families. Some of the burdens that are placed are a result of parents putting pressure on their children to earn scholarships. Some of the burden is a result of students putting pressure on themselves to earn scholarships. Then, there is the burden of high college debt once the student graduates. Is this pressure really helping our students or is it hurting them? The bottom line is college tuition is skyrocketing out of control and something must be done before it destroys our families and our children.
According to Vogue writer Kristen Studeman (2014), “Last year, the peer-to-peer marketplace with over 40 million members swelled to more than $1.35 billion in sales. By comparison, $525.6 million worth of handcrafted goods were sold through the site in 2012.” After eight years of independently
The last time I saw Charlie outside prison walls we were on the run. Charlie was on the run, not I, I just went along for the ride because he was my husband. Charlie was on parole, but he loved to drink his booze. In our state it's a violation to drink while on parole.
Crowdfunding has become commonplace in the art world, but the Jewish Museum launched its first Kickstarter campaign for a number of reasons, of course, in order to fabricate the thousands upon thousands of artworks needed to keep the show fully-stocked throughout its run. Also through
At the beginning of the project my role was the social media manager, and let me tell you; it is harder than you think. So our group's main concern though was money to build the Geralds and where we were going to get it from. So it was my top priority and concern to find a credible fundraising site to use that would be credible. As it was suggested by my peers to create a GoFundMe account under my name because I have a credit card I was a little nervous about it. While reading about the site though, it seemed to be the first fundraising site to use. Even though GoFundMe website says it was “#1 fundraising platform” with people having raised more here than any other site (GoFundMe). So me being me I have no problem with that, except pretty
Crowdfunding has become commonplace in the art world, but the Jewish Museum launched its first Kickstarter campaign for a number of reasons, of course, in order to fabricate the thousands upon thousands of artworks needed to keep the show fully-stocked throughout its run. Also, through Kickstarter platform, it creates a real Receive Me (I’m Yours) dynamic for reaching a real community around the museum, staging a online dialogue with its donors, eventually orchestrating a unique network in which participatory behaviours translate the collective online vision into physical space.
predecessors both in performance and in graphics. And just over 3 years ago, Sony introduced a new console to its line, the PlayStation 4. In this article, we will delve deep into the newest addition of the PlayStation, and will analyze what the physical design and measurements, the components it has, features, models, price range, and a final verdict to see if this console is really worth the purchase.
Thus far, most inventions we 've seen in the media, have been the result of successful Kickstarter and GoFundMe campaigns, in addition to sensational appearances at annual invention shows, like the one held every year by Pittsburgh firm InventHelp.

Many American markets today are filled with apathetic consumers who demonstrate a lack of concern for authenticity and originality. “ Consumerism is built on building blocks laid down in industrial modernity: progress, designed obsolescence, dismissal of the past unless rendered as nostalgia, a utopian sheen projected onto technology, commodity and product.” (Neimeyer, 212) Nostalgia is this utopian sheen, which almost all consumers seem to prefer above overt realism. The environment for resale value has never been better. Speculative merchandising, including DLC sales and crowdfunding campaigns, is a product of this constant demand for intellectual material. Originally, a product was only sold once it had reached completion, but not even that is required any more. Especially in the gaming industry, things are sold before they are completed and consumers often pay full price for products that may be incomplete or dysfunctional. It is not recommended for companies to release
Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.
