Target Population #1
According to Cook Children’s Hospital, the Kid Center webpage provides information for parents and children to learn about their bodies and how to stay healthy (Cook Children's Health Care System, 2018). The Kid Center presents literature that addresses the parents and children to gain a better understanding of children’s health and wellness, along with a topic of school-age children’s issues. An example of children’s issues at school includes school work and bullying. The “Kid Center” web page at Cooks Children’s Hospital identifies the target population as parents of grade-schoolers and grade schools (Cook Children's Health Care System, 2018). According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (2018), grade-schoolers
Child Advocacy Center development has been closely related to the approaches we have been introduced to in this course. Creating protocols for community impact, sustainability and growth have all occurred as this Child Advocacy has developed in my community. In my work it is very important to keep the families and victims we serve at the forefront of our decision making. Each policy, program and renovation is made with how it will impact the families we serve over how it will benefit us. Our program has followed the Principles of Good Practice at times and failed to follow them also. Each program/project has a little of this I believe. In this paper, I will go through each principle and identify how the CAC program has met the standard or identify
Childhood obesity is a growing problem in America. "the percentage of obese children doubling from 6.5% in 1980, to 17.0% in 2006. Weight, nutrition, and physical activity are the main components to a child’s overall health.”(1) “When parents become too busy to cook meals in their homes, children learn poor eating habits and develop into unhealthy eaters.”(1) They will take what they learned at home and apply it to anywhere else that they eat. For example a child that drinks milk at dinner and sits with their family at dinner when asked what they want to drink when they are at a friend’s home will ask for milk because the child would associate milk with dinner. Children cannot make healthy choices of their own they need to be guided so
The section of the population of interest to be considered for further health research and analysis is children. This argument and premise stem from the fact that children are the backbone of the human society and all attention, and positive energy should be
The current state of affairs isn’t ideal for school children as many schools offer children foods of minimal nutritional value with some schools still allowing fast food restaurants to provide their services in high schools and middle schools. The current policies actually contribute to the toxic environment that many children face both at home and at school as those most impacted by the obesity epidemic are minority and poor urban children who don’t have healthy choices at home or in school. Part of the problem
During the observation day at the middle school the nurse had many students come in for different reasons, but one of the more popular reasons was students with upset stomachs or stating “feeling like they’re going to faint” from not having the proper nutrition. The nurse offered them a snack and used the time in the nurse’s office to teach the students about the importance of eating breakfast and having the proper nutrition to be able to function well during school. According to Perry, Hockenberry, Lowdermilk, & Wilson (2010), “Health care education of school-aged children is
Of all of the problems that dishearten children today, the one that bothers them the most is being unhealthy. Five out of six students from the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School agree that there should be a change in the schools' cafeteria foods; they came up with a solution to help kids be healthy. Unhealthy foods should be eliminated in schools for many reasons. First of all, kids concentrate better when they are healthy. Being healthy helps children to concentrate better because if they are healthy in the inside and the outside, they will not have to worry about their health or how they look. Secondly, having only healthy foods in school help parents to take good care of their kids. For instance, imagine a mom that is a seventh
However, it is possible to manage the problem through school based intervention (i.e., guidance programs and physical activities). School can reduce the rate of obesity significantly by providing healthier school food option to students, increasing the level of physical activity, and improving students’ physical education and nutrition classes. Despite this, some people insist that community based interventions may better at reducing childhood school based interventions are much more effective because parents can easy participate in the program. Regardless, research has proven that school intervention have positive outcomes and empowers children to make healthier lifestyle decision when they are out of school. Physical activities will help actively reduce the weight of children and nutrition will teach them how to maintain a health BMI. It is important to remember that it only takes one positive intervention to start a chain reaction to reduce childhood obesity epidemic. Children are the future, and is in our hands to recognize that due to the intertwine natures of what is causing obesity, there is also a solution for that
Behavioral factors include the children’s eating habits, lifestyle at home, and their choices of activity (Kugel et al., 2016). While there are public policies that focus on nutritious food being available at school meals and more time for physical activity, there is still the matter of what children do once they get home after school. There have been studies where therapists provide their clients with helping tools such as food boards and portion control plates to give their clients a clear picture of what is healthy. Emphasis has been put on approaching the treatment
As discussed before, there are limited formal services in Appalachia, especially in the rural areas and counties. A social worker has to be crafty and “think outside the box” to provide the best services for their clients that can be offered. In child protective services, there are more options for informal services because the client is in their community and have networking. This is not as true in a child shelter setting. As stated previously, while many of the residents at Davis Child Shelter are from the area, any resident can come from many part of West Virginia. For those residents it might be possible to maintain some of those informal networks, like family members, siblings, and other loved ones. However, not everyone who has walked
Harding Middle School is located on the north side of Des Moines. It’s a school with over seven hundred students, making it one of the larges middle schools in Des Moines. The middle school is a diverse school with many ethnicities and cultures from different parts of the world. The student population that attend the school are among the poorest in the Des Moines school district. It’s a school that sees behavioral problems among students. Among staff members, there are several hall monitors that monitor student safety and behavior during the school day. The nurse’s office is one of the busiest areas of the school, averaging sixty students per day. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to use clinical judgements and evidence base practice to analyze the effects of the determinants of health at Harding Middle School.
The reporting party (RP) stated the preschool had a change of ownership and name change. However, the director and teachers remain the same as the initial preschool "The Kids Place." According to the RP the kids place should have been closed due to ongoing issues with care and supervision. Currently under this new ownership the preschool continues to have issues with supervision. Moreover there is a video of children left unsupervised for 20 minutes. Subsequently the RP alleges an autistic child (name not provided) was locked in the restroom due to his behaviors. The RP is concerned the preschool should be closed, however she discovered it would be a hardship to the parents if the school was closed therefore the school remains open. The RP
2.) Our bodies are very cautious when receiving outside help. If it is not something that our bodies recognize, such as a new heart, it is considered foreign. The antilymphocyte serum was given to prevent an occurrence where the girl's body would use her T cells (lymphocytes) to attack the donor heart. Since the girl’s body was not working at 100% she more than likely has a weakened immune system, where she is not able to fight off other foreign bodies, which would leave her vulnerable to infections and opportunistic diseases which in her case would cause death.
The program’s purpose is to help reestablish opportunity for abused and neglected children in Milwaukee. These volunteers of the Kids Matter organization takes the time to care for and protect the children that are in need and have no one else to care for them. Also the program’s purpose is to help children with their health care, help them stay in school, and also prevent them from being homeless when they get older.
Children are the future leaders of tomorrow and in order to keep them healthy to one-day lead nations they have to incorporate a balanced meal while in school. Recent research studies have shown that executing wellness programs and policies in schools can have a positive impact on a child’s health and overall behavior in a classroom environment. Humenikova & Gates (2008) have conducted studies involving Czech and American children to
