The first area, clinical practice, is a good choice for those who wish to stay working specifically in the laboratory but do not wish to be a generalist anymore. These people tend to prefer one department over the others and wish to learn all they can about it. The first way to do this is to obtain a specialist certification. These specialization include: chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood banking, molecular biology, and cytogenetics. This certification is similar to obtaining a medical laboratory science certification, since both require the technician to pass a test. With these certifications the laboratory scientist have more say in the overall workflow in that department. The next way to progress in the clinical practice is it …show more content…
They can do this by gaining management experience; which will have the least amount of advancement, getting management credential; the middle ground, and earning a master’s of business management: the most advancement. People who go down this path will have more say in the planning, organization, directing, and controlling of the things that go on in the laboratory. This includes who will get promotions and pay raises, the yearly budget of the laboratory, adapting new policies and procedures, and the billing procedure of the laboratory. They will also sit in on the interviews of future employees and will have a say on who gets hired. Furthermore, they are responsible for ensure that all the laboratories that they are in charge of are abiding by the laws and regulations set forth. Figure 1. Career paths ftp://ftp.cdc.gov/pub/CLIAC_meeting_presentations/pdf/Addenda/cliac0906/AddendumN.pdf With all of these career opportunities available for the laboratory scientist and the number of new jobs being created, there is becoming a strong need to recruit new employees and to ensure students are picking this major. This is becoming more of a challenge in recent years with the changing in education environment, so how the profession advertises must change
The purpose of the lab was to determine the ratio of air to acetylene results in complete combustion of acetylene gas. The balanced chemical equation for this experiment was C2H2(g) + O2(g) --> CO2(g)+ H2O(l). Complete combustion is the reaction of an element or compound with oxygen to produce the most common oxides and energy. Complete combustion occurs when the fuel and oxygen combine in exact proportions to completely burn the fuel, which leaves a clean test tube. Incomplete combustion is the reaction of an element or compound with oxygen to produce some oxides with less oxygen than the most common oxides. Incomplete combustion occurs when there is not enough oxygen to react
The history of lab technicians can be dated back to the same time as medicine actually maybe even a little earlier. The ancient Greeks, “saw the value in examining body fluids to determine a disease”(Berger 1). Because they saw this is part of the reason that Lab Technician’s exist today. The beginning of this history can be dated back to “1658 with Jan Swammerdam’s discovery of red blood corpuscles”(Career Research). Coming along with another great accomplishment was, “Robert Koch and Louis Pasteur discovery in bacteriology in the 1870s”(Career Research). These discoveries have helped us overcome boundaries in the twentieth centuries and discover so much more than we already know. “In 1928 Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin in his lab
The medical field is a career path that brings about many options and opportunities of great value. The noble idea of being a doctor tends to cloud the diligent studying and precise training that is actually required for this career. I have wanted to become a doctor since a very young age, and now that the opportunity is here for the taking, I have fully researched what it takes to succeed in this profession and various specialties of the practice. The road to a medical degree is one filled with thousands of notes, years of schooling, and many stressful nights, but the reward is one incomparable to any other. Saving people’s lives on a day-to-day basis has been one of my dreams for as long as I can remember, so the rigorous curriculum
The lab is an important part of the healthcare team providing lab values that help doctors make medical decisions on how to treat their patients. Team member C is the lab staff manager who is experienced in the work flow of the lab and processes of the lab staff. The lab staff manager role is responsible for communicating the needs of the lab staff to the project team and understands the needs of their department within the electronic medical record (EMR) system. The Lab Staff Manager will also inspire lab staff to embrace change and provide education about the EMR system to their lab staff.
Now that I remain in the CLT program, it has actually opened my eyes to a complete different world of operating in the medical laboratory field. Having that chance to be more involved with the breakdown of the process of the clinical laboratory studies is astounding. I ‘am pleased to have prepared myself to travel beyond with a little in order to succeed with wealth of
groups. It was conducted to further the research in choice overload and paralysis of the mind.
The initiative helps cement student interest in various career paths, but the goal of Lab Day is to inspire students and help them discover new
The purpose of this report is to identify a long and a short term career objective in my desired field and then develop an action plan. I have chosen Medical Laboratory Science as my desired career field with Medical Laboratory Technologist as my desired position title. I have estimated a timeline of 6 to 8 years in order to be successful.
The purpose of this lab was for the student to get involved with his or hers new lab kit as well as being able to know, identify and use each other tools provided in the kit. Another key learning aspect of this lab is to teach the student how to measure properly the many units in the SI system. I will be using laboratory dilutions, measurements, and weights to then calculate using algebraic formula.
The Benefits and Danger of Being a Processing Factory Lab Technician Being a lab technician in a potato processing factory comes with excellent benefits which are the reason why I chose the job. However, these benefits come with dangers. The responsibility of being a lab technician in a potato factory is to make quality checks that comply with the customer’s standards. Through my experience as a lab technician, I would test a variety of fries, puffs, shredded potatoes, mashed potatoes, and diced potatoes. These tests include in checking the texture, taste, size, salt content, ingredients, quality of packaging, and the smell of the potatoes.
I have had some experience at doing lab work while participating in the Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program (HPREP). While in the program we had to learn how to read scientific papers and we got the opportunity to use a microscope to look at different diseases. In this program we also had Harvard Medical School students as mentors to help us navigate the science life. My mentor was Marina Watanabe, a wonderful
The amazing job of being a toxicologist is a rewarding occupation for everyone. toxicologists is an occupation that helps improve the environment, and also improves modern medicine. If they are not working in offices, they are working in laboratories. If they are working in labs they will be working with biological chemicals. This profession will be needed because it will help the environment and medicine.
As a diagnostic occupation, the technician will be limited to what procedures are accomplished due to the position of the occupation in the medical laboratory career ladder. This position in the career ladder limits technicians to routine tests, unlike the more complex test done by technologist that requires the preparation of samples and manual testing. And unlike those higher on the career ladder, the technician must be supervised by the lab technologist or manager. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016) Additionally, the medical laboratory technician is limited to diagnosing diseases, and is not responsible for treatment provided by physicians. The information discovered by the technician must be given to the health care personal who will provide
After discovering my passion for science and math, I pursue a career in Clinical Laboratory Science with enthusiasm. My desire to study this subject originates from the exciting and rapidly-moving subject area that is highly relevant to major issues facing society today. Clinical Laboratory Scientists play a crucial role in the healthcare field; in detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease in patients. My goal is to be involved in the latest advances in medical research and to constantly be expanding my knowledge about my field. On top of this goal, Clinical Laboratory Science remains a challenging, rewarding and inspiring topic that will motivate and shape my career for my entire life.
Many of the assays are technically complex requiring a thorough and comprehensive background in the sciences. Having such a background allows me to perform, analyze, interpret and troubleshoot laboratory procedures at the preanalytical, analytical, and postanalytical phases of testing. In this role, I have the opportunity to clinically correlate laboratory results with disease conditions and often work side by side with house staff, pathologists, nursing, and various other members of the healthcare team. Exposure to healthcare at this level assured me that continuing my education and seeking a degree in medicine was the right choice for
