On way out I fired up the laptop and picked up a free wi-fi connection at the Murtala Muhammad airport, so I kept myself busy for the hour and half wait for my flight, I can go on and on.
The laptops of today are very powerful so the difference in power between a laptop and desktop is decreasing. If you look at it the other way around, I would say a laptop has more advantages over a desktop. At leasts in my humble opinion. Re: Advantages Of Desktop Computers Versus Laptops? by rof-lmao: 3:04am On Mar 26, 2007 SMH @ "more heat = faster performance"! And what has keyboard, mouse, and monitor got to do? You can easily get your desired ones and plug them into your laptop just like you do your desktop. Battery life is a dodgy claim as well. My laptop runs easily for 3-4hrs on battery and I've watched two full length DVDs back-to-back on battery.
The legitimate advantages of a desktop have already been stated: cheaper, easier to upgrade or replace components, and less appealing to a thief! But that's price for portability and mobility. The only area desktop owns laptop is advance gaming and other processor intensive applications! Any else and certainly for the average PC user(i.e 90%+ PC users!) the laptop can do as desktop.
Things are even getting better with laptops: I read that battery capable of running for 8hrs could soon be in the market, Core Duo and Core 2 Duo and
Designed to be a static unit, desktops are usually much heavier and larger than laptops or netbooks. However, this allows for them to be comparatively faster and more powerful than a similarly priced laptop. If you need or want power on a budget and do not need to work on the move regularly, a desktop is a great choice. The extra power possible also makes desktops a good choice for gamers and media creators, too. The design of most desktops also makes it possible to upgrade units with more memory, higher powered graphics and sound, and more processing power, if you know what you are doing. This also means that many hardware malfunctions - if you are unlucky enough to experience any - can be fixed simply for the price of the part and labour.
One of the main limitations that Personal Computers have is the sheer price of the parts, PC’s are expensive, and with the ability to constantly upgrade your system you can spend up to £2000 on a gaming pc with high spec hardware, another issue is that PC’s are not very portable due to the size of the overall system such as, the tower, the monitors, the keyboard and mouse and all of the
What a great idea! Laptops are excellent for businessmen and women for doing work on the go like on a plane or a long bus or car ride. Like phones, they also allow access to the internet via a WiFi connection. However, there have been studies that are being conducted that the actual heat and radiation from a laptop can cause testicular cancer.
In the 1960’s computers were really big and even costed millions of dollars! Here’s why computers today are superior to computers in the 1960’s. For one, computers are much cheaper now than they were in the 1960’s. Because of computers being so cheap now more people have access to computers. Additionally computers now are much smaller and more portable than computers in the 1960’s. Therefore, computers are better for teenagers today rather than in the 1960’s because of their affordability, accessibility, and portability.
Laptops are becoming more and more popular day by day. New ideas they are coming out with, the multiple sizes you can buy them in, and even the multiple different colors. So honestly, who wouldn’t want one? But if you think about it are they really what is great for us? I believe that there should be less laptop work and more hands on on paper.
In this compare and contrast essay the graphics, RAM or random–access –memory, connectivity, optical drive, storage, and price were identified and explained in detail on the computers that were in question of purchasing for a company. The three computers examined for purchase by the company were the Hewlett Packard Compaq 6300 Small Form Factor desktop Personal Computer, the Hewlett Packard Compaq 8300 Elite Small Form Factor desktop Personal Computer, and the Hewlett Packard 21 All-In-One workstation w/400W 90% Energy Efficient Chassis Personal Computer. It is determined that the Hewlett Packard 21 model is the
The PC market is an ever-growing and changing industry field with an array of technologies that can be confusing to the average consumer. Though the task may be daunting, one can find an excellent deal on the perfect computer suited to your needs. The following information will show that with all the choices out there the average student can find a well-priced used laptop without any major preexisting issues. The evidence gathered will also show that while the Apple brand is an alluring one, it is more practical for the general user to go with a PC brand.
The personal computer has been credited for many of its strengths. A PC is easy to shop for, since most computer retailers rely heavily
Computers, laptops, tablet, and smart phones have become a big necessity in the daily lives of many Americans today. They each give us mobility to communicate with the rest of the world and get any type of news at the touch of a finger tip. They can be used for many things like sending emails, watching videos, having web conference calls as well as many other things. What kind of things does a person look for when they are deciding to buy a computer or other electronic device? Does it matter the color, size, or memory space available? No. I believe people look at computers and base them on stability, accuracy, and speed. Choosing between a tablet, laptop, or desk top computer I would be more than comfortable to say I would choose a Laptop. I believe that technology and computers are so important to us because, it gives us mobility to communicate with the rest of the world and get any type of news at the touch of a finger tip. In my paper I will compare and contrast some of today’s top manufacturers and decide which brand I think best suits me. What made making my decision so easy when it came to choosing between all the different devices was because, not only are laptops portable they are also in some cases very light in weight, stylish, and you can upload virus protectors on all for better protection. Although tablets and notebooks are light as well, they are also fragile and a lot easier to break or damage as opposed to that of a laptop. There are many brands of laptops
During the past ten years, computers have been increasing in there popularity across the board (2004). Over the years, the personal computer has become affordable for the general
Both Faber and Evangehlo’s articles echo the same argument that personal computer sales and shipments, in general, have been continuing its downward spiral because tablets and smartphones have replaced personal computers especially in incipient markets. Though Faber’s article drew focus on Apple’s MacIntosh growing 28.5 percent year over year, Evangehlo focus drew on Intel’s confirmation that new processors will be capable of switching between Android and Windows instantaneously. In comparison to Pettey and van der Meulen’s article, “Gartner Says Worldwide PC Shipments in the Third Quarter of 2013 Declined 8.6 Percent” with Faber and Evangehlo’s articles, all three articles ascribed the fall of personal computer shipments and sales throughout 2013 as the
There were so many computers brands on the market, and so many different styles and speeds of computers. All Robert knew was that he needed desktops for the administrative staff, laptops for his sales staff and PDAs (personal digital assistant) for his delivery personnel. Robert did not understand computers, but was going to research the desktop, laptop and PDA markets to determine his needs. Robert’s organisational requirements were:
A laptop is a personal computer designed for mobile use. A laptop integrates most of the typical components of a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device (a touchpad, also known as a track pad, and/or a pointing stick) and speakers into a single unit. A laptop is powered by mains electricity via an AC adapter, and can be used away from an outlet using a rechargeable battery. A laptop battery in new condition typically stores enough energy to run the laptop for three to five hours, depending on the computer usage, configuration and power management settings.
Price had never been this low where a desktop costs only $499, whereas laptops are hovering around $1100. Yet do not forget the $500 Apple mini sub compact laptop or the Apple iBook laptop that sells for $650, and the stripped down $400 after rebate laptops companies like Gateway and eMachine are flooding the market with to make money on volume of sales instead of a high price margin. The problem is even if the price of PCs plummets the effect is not felt immediately, because people do not rush to change their PC despite the fact they are getting it cheaper, which means the PC turnover rate is low like most durable goods. That might be what is contributing to the declining of prices, as the assumption of the manufacturers might be that if the price goes low enough people might want to change their computer to avail themselves the latest add-ons. Even the add-ons themselves seem to have reached their zenith some time ago and the latest most alluring gadget that came into existence was CD/DVD RW and every reasonably priced desktop or laptop is equipped with it. However, it does not mean the makers of PCs are not coming up with new functionality, add-ons, and price reductions to woo buyers. The other recent addition was Wi Fi that got boost from the introduction of Intel 's Centrino mobile technology chip and it had added a lot to the mobility of laptops, which can access the Internet wherever hot spots are available. Other than that, the overall performance of PCs despite
The laptop is an amazing achievement of technology. They allow us to do things that computers can do. The biggest difference between a computer and a laptop is the difference in portability. The laptop is lighter and smaller than most computers. Because of the laptop’s weight and size, laptops can be used and taken virtually anywhere. This report will go over the laptop’s motherboard, the Central Processing Unit, the Random Access Memory, and the chips.
