Leading the Followers John C. Maxwell once stated that, “a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Although leadership can be discovered in various sectors of life, leadership signifies many different qualities about a person. Proverbs 11:14 states, “where no counsel is, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” The bible verse is basically explaining that where there is not any leadership the people will fail but when there is leadership the people are safe. A church is a great example where leadership is shown in tremendous ways. Growing up in the church, I was always implied to that God was the man over us all, the king. A king can be defined as a man who rules a certain group of individuals. A king hardly ever leaves his castle; therefore God would hardly ever leave the cross. A king uses his …show more content…
My basketball coach, Fred Barnes, always implies to me that a point guard is like the coach on the floor; therefore my leadership skills have to be better than my athletic ability. Previously, Brandon High School Basketball team were 17-0 going into a battle with Meridian. Brandon was ranked #1 in the state and Meridian was ranked #2. Every recruiting service in Mississippi predicated Meridian to defeat Brandon. The point guards of the Bulldogs showed tremendous leadership qualities throughout the game that accumulated the Bulldogs a victory. Being a leader in the classroom is also a necessary quality for point guards to display. In the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, Jimmy Cross were the point guard of his unit. He always made sure they were safe and if any incidents happen, he took the blame and felt guilty. Jimmy Cross authority was much higher than others. If a leader is seen doing good is their community it will give a positive outlook on their club or organization that they partake

Being a leader is more than simply holding a leadership position or having the ability to lead. Everyone is capable of being a leader, but not everyone exercises his or her leadership abilities. Each person’s idea of leadership is different. My idea of leadership has developed over time, and being a member of the President’s Leadership Class has helped me develop my philosophy of leadership further than what it was two months ago. My personal philosophy of leadership is the ability to effect change through leading by example, taking initiative, and encouraging others.
Leaders are someone that can be a positive influence in anyone’s life. Leaders are someone that people look up to and remember that person throughout his or her lives. The leader
When we think of leadership, what comes to mind? Is it the bold, charismatic, and passionate person who takes the group on their back? Or is it really the more quiet and realistic leader who has a compromising attitude? Most people will think of a loud and passionate person who can grab the attention of an audience. But leaders come in all shapes and sizes. Leadership is defined by dictionary.com as the ability to guide or influence others to achieve a common goal. Although the term leader is used in our everyday lives, many people mistake it for close synonyms. Not all leaders have to be the boisterous, bold, and burly people that most people think of them to be. More often than not, a leader will be the commanding one in the group. But there
Leadership can be defined as the ability of a superior to influence the behavior of a minor or group and persuade them to follow a particular course of action. A leader sets a course of action and ensures that everyone follows the action. Leading can apply to leading oneself, other individuals, groups, organizations and societies. The nature of how leading is done depends on the framework of the situation, one's point of view, and on the nature and needs of those involved. While leadership is learned, the skills and knowledge processed by the leader are influenced by their traits, such as beliefs, values, ethics, and most importantly character. Knowledge and skills directly relate to the process of leadership, while the other qualities
Leadership is a big deal in today’s culture and in history. A good leader with great leadership has the potential to lead a sports team to a championship. It can be the deciding factor in a war between two nations because whoever has the better leader in the war with the right strategies will come up with a victory. A right leader in the government system can also lead the nation to prosperity and wealth or, can break a nation and drive the nation into a state of depression. Leadership is everywhere and the right leader will lead you to do remarkable things.
What is a leader? This question has been asked throughout history and yet there is still no globally consistent understanding of what it means to be a great leader. Meriam Webster’s Dictionary and the Macmillan English Dictionary both define a leader as someone who goes out in front and shows the way. However, do leaders always lead from the front? Renowned generals did not succeed by charging at the front line of battle. Instead they devised a plan and led their armies from the rear. In the course of history leadership has taken many forms. From Caesar to Jesus, Hitler to Lincoln, great leaders have had an incredible impact.
According to Webster’s Dictionary, leadership is the power or ability to lead other people, the act or instance of leading. I believe that Leadership is an art, the art to get others to follow and accomplish a common goal or task in a harmonic manner. A leader can be shown in all kinds of shapes and forms. To be a great leader many people believe it consists of modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others to act, and encouraging the heart. Over the course of me learning how to become a better leader and being in leadership roles, I’ve learned that all these are very necessary to be a great leader.
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human

According to Dictionary.com the definition of leadership is the position or function of a leader, a person who guides or directs a group. Historical figures have many different famous quotes on leadership reflecting what they believe about the function of a leader. The 40th president of the United States, Ronald Reagan states, "The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things."(Reagan, 1975). A famous leader in the African American civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr. quotes his view of a leader, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."(King, 2016). Business executive Donald Mcgannon states, "Leadership is an action, not a position." (Mcgannon, 2008).
Brigadier General Diana Holland once said, “lead the way you want to be lead, follow the way you want to be followed, and be a team player.” This quote really resonates with me because being a leader means also knowing how to be a follower and be a part of something bigger than yourself. I believe that being a leader doesn't always mean being at the front of the line. Being a leader means supporting, encouraging and empowering others to become their own potential.
While many complexities exist in understanding how to lead and how to thrive in leadership positions, leading essentially consists of directing and controlling a group. In an environment where anyone can learn the skills required to become an adequate leader, many are missing the key to becoming an exemplary leader - a relationship with Christ. Christian Leadership is unique in that it seeks to mimic the style of the greatest leader of all, Jesus Christ. Christian leaders know that the dominion associated with leadership truly means selfless love for those under their care. Christian leaders practice serving rather than being served; they practice humility over pride and selflessness over greed. Christian Leadership, then, involves the direction
Phillip, I enjoyed reading your post and like to follow-up what you stated. Leadership is a well-studied topic and it is correct that the focal point in the leader follower/dynamic. However, “a rose by any other name is still rose”; individuals who follow are also called; Christians, disciples, brothers, sisters, groups, teams, people, and the list goes on. It can also be argued that that followers have been around for a long time just called by another name. Hence, Vugt (2006) argues that whenever a group of people come together, leader – follower relationship naturally develops (p. 354). Therefore, whatever the group of individuals are called it can be acknowledged that the focal point in the leader/follower dynamic
Leadership is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as the “action of leading a group of people or an organization.” Leadership is also the ability to set trends, inspire, motivate, and sway others to produce desired results. There are different styles and ways of performing leadership and a good leader has the ability to take ordinary people, put them all together, and hopefully yield successful results. For organizations to have sustained results from their performance there must be a good balance of business insight, technical and interpersonal skills, and good team dynamics. A leader must know how to use all these areas as well as trust and communicate with their people in
