Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of assassinating John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. Later that day a policeman addressed Harvey about the shooting, because he matched the description of the suspect but was then shot and killed by Harvey. On the same day, Harvey was arrested for the murders of both the president and the policeman. Two days later, during a jail transfer to a maximum security cell, Lee Harvey Oswald was shot. There were people lined up on the sides of the jail during his transfer to see him and the gun that he used, but while he was walking to the truck to take him to the new jail, Jack Ruby- a nightclub owner- murdered him. Assassinations occur for many reasons, Lee Harvey Oswald’s assassination was because of revenge. Jack Ruby was angry about John F. “A clear majority of voters (61%) would choose a punishment other than the death penalty for murder (Death Penalty Information Center).” This comes from DPIC, they released this information in 2010 about the viewpoints of people about the death penalty. According to this statistic, more than half of the people think there should be no death penalty. Therefore, Jack Ruby’s killing of Lee Harvey Oswald was not justified since the assassination is the same as the death penalty. The killing of a President is wrong, in fact, the killing of anyone is wrong. The majority of people liked John F. Kennedy as a President. For example, he handled the Cuban Missile Crisis. Since he was a very popular President, his assassination was devastating to so many Americans. Even though John F. Kennedy is the President, he is still a person. Lee Harvey Oswald similarly is still a person even though he did something devastating. Therefore, both of the assassinations were not
