Did you know that LEGO is the 3rd largest toy manufacturer. LEGO is an invention that has been around for years as a child’s toy. Toys have been important part of children’s life for years. LEGOs are usually used by kids in their late childhood to help expand their creativity. LEGOs are toys that have expanded from it’s small Dutch roots to a major corporation.
LEGO’s were invented in Denmark in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen. The LEGO company started out as a small company in Billund, Denmark. The company originally sold stepladders, ironing boards and wooden toys. Ole Kirk Kristiansen the inventor and founder of the LEGO company was born on April 7 1891 and died on March 11, 1958. Then the granules are sent to molding machines where they are melted and fed into molds. The melting and mold process is very precise and the extreme temperatures call for machines to do all of the work. Once they are shaped they are taken by robots to the manufacturing process. AT the manufacturing process they add all the details and final touches to the LEGO's which make them look like the LEGO’s we know. Finally the pieces are put in the right sets and shipped off to stores all around the world.
The LEGO’s we know nowadays were not what the original LEGO's looked like. Back in 1932 LEGO's were toys made out of wood and were not even connector toys like the ones we have nowadays. In 1949 they made the first plastic connector bricks but still continued making it’s wooden LEGO toys. Nowadays LEGO’s are made out of only plastic. The LEGO toys now are made into more shapes and more figures and sets than the few sets that the company originally started out with. LEGO’s have changed our lives because they help developing minds grow. LEGO’s are an old invention that has changed kids life and has supplied generations with a toy that is fun for
For example, as the ad says, it builds pride. You can’t teach a kid to have pride in their own work. It is something that happens just by the child learning themselves. This is important because having self-pride in your work is a life skill needed later on in life. Lego toys also open up a child’s imagination. Lego blocks all look the same when they are by themselves. When a child puts Lego blocks together it can become anything the child wants with imagination. A growing imagination is important to a child’s development as a person. When a parent understands this, it is hard for a parent to say no, this isn’t a good toy for my child. Also, what other toy could you substitute a Lego toy for that would teach the same lessons? This is the Logos part of this advertisement. Lego inadvertently makes a strong convincing case to buy their product, because of the self-conscious lessons it teaches to
There was the change in the business strategy in the company that was brought up by the new CEO. The strategy was to survive, cut costs, sell businesses, generate cash and ignore the dash for the growth in the immediate future. Lego was known for the traditional blocks and components that will allow children to build anything with their imagination. The business strategy was to broaden the Lego products for the other customer segments. They created the
The Lego Cast Study is about how the toy company has been affected by the rapid and vast change in the way children play with toys and their preference of the same. Historically, Lego’s have been a top rated toy for children and when that quickly changed Lego was not expecting it and furthermore not prepared. The company began to lose money, “by 2004, the company found itself close to extinction, losing $1 million a day.” (Saunders & Pearlson , 2013)
Advances in the field of information technology and introduction of new hi-tech form of entertainment such as tablets and gaming consoles had left Lego trailing in the entertainment field. Jorgen Vig Knudstorp was appointed as the CEO to revamp the company’s business process, organization structure and information systems. Knudstorp was quick to act and first made changes in the company’s production process. He encouraged designers to use the unused components in development of new products and design, thus reducing the number of unused

The LEGO Group was founded in 1932 and has come a long way in almost 80 years. With such global success in their brand, it was easy to choose an organization to interview that would provide us with the history and tools for analyzation of compensation plans. Below is the mission statement that can be found on the LEGO website:
The Lego group was established in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen in Billund, Denmark. Lego today is one of the most recognizable brands in the world. However, that does not mean that they haven’t had to make some changes along the way to reach and stay at that position. Lego needed to change because of increased expansion of their product line which lead Lego to the brink of going bankrupt. In the year 2000, the Lego group had a huge sales growth. By 2004, they were projected to lose somewhere around two billion dollars. This lead to talks about bankruptcy, breakup of the company, or even the sale of the company. Regardless of the talks, it was quite obviously that something had to be done before any of that talk became a reality
The Lego Group is a privately family-owned company based in Billund Denmark and was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen. Legos are plastic construction toys; the history spans nearly 100 years; manufacturing of these interlocking toy bricks began in 1949 with the creation of small wooden Lego bricks (developed into six pieces of 2 by 4 bricks that can be combined in 915,103,765 ways, creating systematic creativity) but has since then grown into an iconic brand with factories around the world, supporting movies, games, competitions and six legoland amusement parks. Interestingly enough, I would say that Legos played a tremendous role in helping me develop my goals. I began playing with the toys when I was 3 years old, a hobby I embraced throughout my childhood. I participated in the Lego Robotics competition at Florissant Valley Community College in Missouri in 2005. When I was 10 years old, I
LEGO has rationalized production lines, reducing the number of products that could be made on each machine, adding simplicity and reducing changeover costs. It established more fixed production cycles, and better tied manufacturing to the rest of the supply chain. For example, it was no longer acceptable to make manual changes in a molding machine without
We all know the classic Legos bricks, but Lego has not always been this well-loved toy. Originally Lego was a carpentry business in 1932. It created wooden toys such as a wooden duck. It’s first construction toy was the Kirk’s Sandgame (Lego, 2012).
One of their first patents passed in October 1961, three years after the initial filing date was the concept of the Toy Building Brick. “This invention relates to toy building elements and more particularly to toy building bricks or blocks adapted to be connected together by means of projections extending from the faces of the elements and arranged so as to engage protruding portions of an adjacent element when two such elements are assembled- Toy elements of this kind will be referred to generally as building bricks, and the principal object of the invention is to provide improved coupling means for clamping such building bricks together in any desired relative position thus providing for a vast variety' of combinations of the bricks for making toy structures of many different kinds and shapes.” The full patent will not be cited, but a main aspect of this paper is to find out exactly what DOES make sense for Lego, and this here is the perfect example of a positive play on IP and protecting an invention that was created by the company that could not simply be published nor kept a trade secret as it is their main product that they offer to
