What would you do if yours and other people's lives were at risk? In the article “The Man in The Water”, it really talks about not giving anything for granted. The fact that, that man risked his life to save the others, is heart whelming. If i were to be in any situation like he was, my first instinct would to get these people safe so that their families wouldn’t have to worry. He gave up his entire life to save those few people. Not many people would think about saving someone else’s life. The fact that three out of four acknowledged heroes took account for their behavior in the downing of Flight 90. Two important men ricks their lives every time something or someone ends up in the water, Donald Usher and Eugene Windsor are the two park police that risk their lives every time it happens. Lenny Skutnik the twenty-eight employee of the Congressional Budget Office has said he never thought that he would have jumped into the water to save someone. The fact that there was seventy four people on board that day is astonishing. Only six people that were on that plane survived, and it’s eye opening to hear or read this man's story. Roger Rosenblatt’s story is very eye opening and it shows that you should live life to the fullest. He titled the story “The Man in The Water” because they didn’t know who it was that risked his entire life for those six people. Many people, including me, would be confused as to why he wouldn’t didn’t take the rope after the others. The man really didn't think about himself, he were to he would have taken that rope. Many people really only think about themselves, and those six people that were saved, should respect that they are still alive and that man risked his life to save all of
One thousand five hundred and three people died in the sinking of the Titanic, but was it avoidable? The behemoth of a ship was supposed to be unsinkable; however, due to the Captain’s negligence, the speed of the ship, and not listening to multiple warnings it was sunk. Miss Jessie Allis Mary Goodwin, a twelve year old girl, lost her life due to the tragic sinking of the Titanic. Unfortunately, she died because she was a third class passenger so she was sealed in by the watertight doors.
Surrounded by strangers, the anonymous man, known as “The Man in the Water,” was only minutes to death. With that being said, prior to the plane crash, he was on an ordinary plane surrounded by people he had never met. However, when the plane went down, instead of saving himself, he proceeded to save the others. Because he was selfless, those people gained a longer life. The plane
on its maiden voyage in 1912 the British ocean liner titanic sank after ramming an iceberg in the north atlantic ocean. the nearest ship the California did not get the SOS message because the radio operator had gone to bed and turned off his radio. the titanics captain Edward j smith knew that there were only enough lifeboats for half the 2100 people on board in the panic even those were not filled. seventeen year old jack Thayer from Philadelphia was not lucky enough to get into a lifeboat but as the titanic slid into the water, he dived from its deck into the ice waters coming upon an overturned lifeboat he hung on until the carpathian came to his rescue at dawn more than 1500 other people were not so
Thoughts of drowning run rampant in every man’s mind on that boat. At dawn, the men decided that their only chance is to row toward the distant shore again and swim when the boat finally capsizes.
“Against the Odds” is an informative text by Pearson Realize about how Sully Sullenberger faced a potential crash with 150 passengers on board when geese hit the plane and made the engines fail. Sully kept calm for the whole experience and got everyone to safety, while also keeping the plane intact. The selection states, “The plane could either land in LaGuardia or land in Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. Sullenberger knew the situation was too dire for the plane to stay in the air long enough for either plan to be successful… He’d ditch the plane in the Hudson River - despite the fact that passenger jets are not built to land on water.” (pgs. 446-447). This quote explains that instead of listening to air traffic, he thought of his own way and it succeeded. Another challenge was to get everyone to safety. Most of the passengers were out of the plane, but Sullenberger had to be sure they were all out. So he “...walked the length of the cabin twice, calling ‘Is anyone
Superheroes; they save and protect the world’s people. They courageously stand up and battle against evil, anarchy, injustice, crime, and sin. When the world has nothing else to defend itself, they are the ones who are present with a duty to safeguard everyone. The superheroes you may know, such as: Superman, Batman, Iron Man, etc. all have extraordinary superhuman powers which they use to shield those in need. However, anyone can be a superhero. Throughout history, many people have become like superheroes not because of extraordinary powers, but extraordinary courage, bravery, humanity, and love. Those people made a choice to risk everything they had in order to save another human being. Is it the right thing for a person to stand up
Courage Compassion and Sacrifice is very important to have in times like these. If I were in a situation they had been in at the time I do not think I would have been able to do the same as them as doing all of this would be crazy and I think what they did was
This story should be the story of a hero. The story of Whip Whitaker, an excellent pilot, who with a malfunctioning airline jet in a uncontrollable dive to earth and with eminent death quickly approaching, remained calm and managed to control his own anxiety and direct others to execute an intuitive and intelligent plan that allowed him to fly and crash land the jet in a controlled manner as to minimize the loss of life. Out of 102 souls on the flight only 6
In a very highly tense and stressful situation, people tend to go as far as they can to avoid the situation at all costs. There are only a handful of people who run towards the problem to solve it in hopes to save someone’s life. These people are risking their own lives to save someone in need of aid, all without any money, fame, or endorsements in the future. In today’s society the concept of heroism can make a huge impact on a person’s or society’s view. Heroes help teach us what is right from wrong and constantly role-modeling the concept of persistency such as the very popular superhero Batman. He is persistently fighting crime in Gotham City, and will not stop until the criminals are put to justice. Even though his actions are more violent
Throughout the video, I felt sad for all the people that died and for those who witnessed the incident on that moment. I asked myself, what if I was in that situation, maybe on the streets or maybe in the buildings that were hit. I can’t even imagine being on the planes that were hijacked. I’d would be scared
In different circumstances, people have to risk other people's lives to save their

This man shows selflessness, taking charge and most importantly courage during the final minutes of his own life as the plane sinks farther into the ocean. First of all, this man shows selflessness in where many situations people would be in a more selfish attitude. The man saves five people and ultimately gives his own life to save the innocent souls from drowning along with him. The story says the the man was, "Balding Probably in his fifties. " This man had some life still
Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat who tried to help Jews escape concentration camps once said, “Do what is right because it is right, and leave it alone.” What he meant this was that each person needs to sometimes break the law to do what is morally right, or go out of what is the norm and do what the person’s conscience tells them is right. Carl Lutz did this such thing in a time of war and countless people going away to their deaths and torture; it takes a lot of moral courage to risk your own life just for some random strangers whose dooms are imminent. Carl Lutz showed tremendous moral courage in his efforts to help save thousands of lives from being added to the death toll of the Holocaust.
Imagine you are one of the highest mountains in the world. You don’t care about the risks because there are rescue services to help you. But what if one day they all decide to quit or they don’t come to you in time? There are amazing climbers who are still willing to make the climb but when they make a mistake there won’t be someone behind you to bring you back up when you fall. There are people in this world who are willing to take risks and reach their own Mount Everest but sometimes the price can be too high to bear. For example, having the person who rescued you died trying. That person is part of the rescue services. When climbers are putting their own life on the line, they shouldn’t be demanding the rescue services to save them when they are putting themselves at risk.
