Stg White has been frequently tarnishing my name and my reputation by talking negative about me to my fellow colleagues and offenders. She has made numerous allegations that I am the worst nurse and I don’t care how I treat offenders. This has been going on for a long time and I thought she will realize and stop, but this has not happened yet. In fact, stg. White has a long history of talking negative about Health service staff and also inciting offenders from being seen by specific providers and nurses. To be specific on Thursday 2/3/16 she called from the unit and reported about an offender who report that she had a boil and wanted to see if she needs to be seen. Based on the information she gave me it didn’t sound like an emergency situation.
Jim White gave hope to 7 boys, and the whole town, when no one thought they had a shot. Everyone outside of McFarland thought that they were just some lame Mexicans from a nowhere land, but they have big dreams too.
“The first step in teaching nurses how to decrease bullying by others is to help them understand what to do and what not to do when confronted by a bully” (Rocker, 2008, Education, para. 13). Nurses need to be aware of how to recognize horizontal violence, and how to be able to stop it. Furthermore, Baltimore (2006) explained that nurses need to try and resist the temptation of participating in gossip which could ultimately result in people losing respect for nurses (p. 35). Nurses also need to be respectful and value differences among other nurses. Each nurse is unique and may have different ways of implementing his/her type of care. Therefore, it is crucial that nurses respect these differences (Rocker, 2008, Policy, para. 14). If nurses are able to be consciously aware of these small things, it can make a huge difference on how they treat other coworkers, and how others view them. Not only is it important for nurses to understand what horizontal violence is, but managers of hospitals need to be well educated of this as well. Brunt (2011) stated that managers have a key role in preventing and altering horizontal violence in the workforce. It is important that managers create an environment where staff members feel comfortable coming to the managers with concerns. Managers need to be educated about how to deal with the negativity of horizontal violence (p. 7). Managers can improve relationships, trust, and productivity and reduce tension by
Initial Responses to the incident I was surprised that there was no record of the incident and that event had not been handed over to the multidisciplinary team members who had come on shift. I thought that the nurse had not considered the incident to be a serious incident. Furthermore sexual activity, including sexual assault and harassment, does occur in psychiatric facilities and is an issue of concern (Videbeck, 2008). In this situation I felt uncomfortable when I heard the allegations however my thoughts were that it is an important issue which should not be ignored.
In a chemistry stockroom, a vial of an Unknown White Compound was found. In order to properly dispose of the substance, the substance has to be identified .The possible compounds has been limited to one of 15 different compounds. Also, approximately 5 grams of the Unknown White Compound (UWC) were available for testing. In order to determine the properties of the compound, a series of tests was conducted. These tests included a ph test, a conductivity test, a flame test, a sulfate test, a halide test, an ammonium test, a solubility test, and a carbonate test. Using the results of these experiments, it was hypothesized that the UWC is potassium chloride. To further confirm the hypothesis, a synthesis of potassium chloride was conducted.
Working Towards Whiteness is about immigrants who are coming to the United States during the twentieth century and struggling to become white. This is because America has this identity of being white and the new immigrants are facing the problem of fitting in based on their race and class. The states have applied restriction so that they can preserve the population to be more white. In Roediger historical studies he brings these practices to light and his goals to draw attention to the biased white supremacist policy of the government in the regulations of immigration. Roediger most evident strength would be that he has the adaptation of the “in-between” status of the new immigrants coming in, which they are neither accepted as white neither can they be able to identify themselves as their pre-existing background.

Workplace bullying is a growing problem in the American workplace and the Nursing Profession no exception. Addressing workplace bullying and its impact on the nursing profession is paramount to upholding patient safety and decreasing nursing attrition rates. Defining the problem is the first step in addressing it. In the past, workplace bullying was referred to as “Nurses eating their young.” There are many names for the various levels of workplace bullying like horizontal and lateral violence, hostility, mobbing, and verbal abuse. Bullying actions can take place overtly or covertly. Nurse-to-Nurse bullying is known to occur during interaction communications and manifests by withholding information, intimidation, threats, verbalizing harsh innuendo and criticism, and undermining personal values and beliefs (Rocker, 2008). Power disparities are also a source of bullying. For example, using charge position for controlling staff assignments, reporting coworkers for perceived lack of productivity, placing others under pressure to achieve impossible deadlines, and withholding knowledge for policies and procedures (Rocker, 2008). Outright actions of yelling at coworkers and refusing to mentor new staff with their practice are also considered bullying behavior.
During my clinical rotation during my last semester of nursing school, I was able to work one on one with a BSN degree nurse named Judy in the ICU. Judy had three years of experience in the ICU setting. She had been a medical surgical nurse prior to her ICU transfer. The ICU at this hospital consisted of two associate degree level nurses and two BSN level nurses on my shift. I rotated three days in this particular ICU. I worked with Judy all three days of my rotation. I was excited about being placed with her for she seemed knowledgeable and skilled. We were given a male post trauma patient to work with all three days. This patient was a 30 year old male admitted for trauma related injuries and was considered unstable and was to be monitored in ICU. This patient had been involved in a motor vehicle accident and
Over the course of the semester, we have read many short stories that have shared very similar themes. The two stories that stood out the most to me were You Want Me White and The Youngest Doll. Not only were the stories both very compelling they share parallel themes such a social issues concerning women and form of gender disparity. Both authors Alfosina Storni and Rosario Ferre wrote during a time male dominance was an issue, women were looked at as objects that needed to devote themselves to their men.
During my clinical competency placement, I was working on a surgical ward when a registered nurse on duty asked me to assist Mr. A with his shower. This incident happened on the fifth day of my clinical practice. He was a dementia patient and had undergone right knee total joint replacement. She also informed me that the patient did not like too many people in his room because of his dementia. When I went into his room, his wife was there with him. I talked to the patient about having a shower and getting dressed to look smart and he agreed to have a shower. The patient got out of the bed and walked to the bathroom and sat on the shower chair to have his shower. Then I asked his wife if I needs to stay with him to assist with shower, she said she can help him as she was taking care for him at home since he has been diagnosed with dementia. Therefore, I left the patient with his wife to help with his shower and told her to ring the bell if she needs any help. After some time I left the room, the wife rang the bell. As soon as I entered the room, I heard him shouting at his wife and she started crying and left the hospital. So I had to stay with him. He was very capable of washing himself and I just had to help him wash his back as he requested. After he had washed, I asked him if he was ready to get out of the bath, he started shouting at me.
In Season 1, Episode 5 of the The Netflix Original Series: Dear White People released on April 28, 2017, Reggie, a black college student and the leader of Winchester University’s Black Student Union is seen at a fraternity party surrounded by mostly white students. All is well until Reggie’s white friend, Addison, repeatedly utters the N-word while singing along to a hip-hop song. Reggie asks him not to say it anymore however, Addison questions him and attempts to justify his use of the word which leads to a debate. The creator of Dear White People uses characterization and setting to convey how non-Black people-especially white people- who use the N-word regardless of whether or not they understand its historical context, reinforce the notion that Black people are inferior which helps to maintain white supremacy.
A Netflix TV show, Dear White People produced by Justin Simien, is about the students of Winchester University. This show tends to target not only the Netflix customers, but the black and white audience as well; the entire first season generally focuses on the media, racial, and gender roles within the community as well as the mainstream problem of the unrecognized white privilege by white skinned people. Looking up who the producer is, it turns out that Simien is a black-skinned man. Therefore, he fully understands the politics and the human behavior towards the black race from the white race (considering racism towards people with his skin color has been around for so long). Being black-skinned is already clear for many people to assume that he probably has dealt with the racism majority of his life, considering the repeating themes throughout the show. Even with the title, the producer is purposefully calling out to the specific audiences in a straightforward way. According to some reviews, many have concluded that Dear White People is extremely offensive to them. While watching the show, there were a few significant and periodic themes that showed throughout the first season and the major themes I chose were important how the roles of media played throughout the show. As a result, the roles of the media within the show reveals that people tend to communicate to the public of who they they really are as a person by showing what they want the public to see them as: in a
"Dear White People" is a satirical film by Justin Simian. The film Takes on Quite a few serious subjects under the veil of comedy. I will be telling of my thoughts, and feeling throughout the movie. As we go along I will also bring up the most impressionable characters, and how they impacted my feelings throughout the movie. The movie takes place in the fall semester at a prestigious university called Winchester University. In the fall spirits I would like to ask, do you believe in racists?
According to the news reported by the USA Today, an Indiana University Health nurse is facing internal investigation after allegedly tweeting a controversial statement about white women raising violent offenders, according to the article, “Nurse ‘no longer an employee’ at Indiana hospital after controversial tweet.” The announcement was made by the IU Health’s human resources department after they were aware of trouble post on social media by Taiyesha Baker (Fittes, Briggs, & Bongiovanni, 2017). However, IU Health did not mention the name Baker in its statement, but Jason Fechner, who was the spokesman from IU Health, confirmed that Baker was one of the nurses in the health system that posted the tweet.
During a late shift on the ward, my mentor asked if I would stay with Mrs Smith whilst she gave out medication in order to ensure she wouldn’t be left on her own and fall. I introduced myself to Mrs Smith and sat with her in her room. It became apparent to me quite quickly that she was obviously very confused and she was not fully aware that she was in a hospital, as she repeatedly asked me where she was. On being told she was in hospital she would say no and shake her head. It wasn’t long before she asked me when her husband would be there to take her home, to which I replied
