1. In order to regain its market share lost in the past year, Lily’s Floral will be rolling out a performance management and reward system for all Regional Managers company wide. Lily’s market share has been reduced by 25% by its competitors, so the company’s primary goal is to win back that share of the market. As part of the new system, two goals have been set for all Regional Managers: 1) Each region is to acquire at least five new accounts each quarter 2) each region is to have appointments with the buyers for at least ten prospective accounts. Rewards for reaching these goals include: A) Two-part quarterly bonus structure. One part is dependent on the individual manager reaching their goal, while the other part is dependent on all regions reaching their …show more content…
The designing of this new performance management and reward system was done so by thoroughly following the three steps of goal setting. The first step, setting goals, used the S.M.A.R.T. method. S) Specific - The goal is specific because it states exactly how many new accounts and prospective accounts each Regional Manager must acquire. M) Measurable – New accounts are defined as being accounts that have not placed an order with Lily’s within the past 5 years. The successful acquiring of these accounts is determined by the official submission of a purchase order. New accounts are considered prospective if the manager has confirmed an appointment with the account’s buyers to make a sales pitch. A) Attainable – The goal is thought to be attainable based on the sheer number of eligible retailers in each region. On average, there are at least 200 retail businesses selling gardening supplies that do not currently stock Lily’s products. R) Results Oriented - Goal is results oriented as it is directly in-line with the company’s goal and vision to continue to grow its business and maintain its position as the country’s #1 fertilizer provider. T) Time Bound - Goal is time bound as it is measured on a quarterly

Flowers in the attic that’s what four children thought of themselves. They were born so brightly colored, but fading duller as their long dreary nightmarish days, held prisoners of hope, and kept captive by greed.
Day 1: I choose to observe a poppy flower, since I’m busy during most of this summer vacation and it’s easier to maintain as well as consistently take notes of. A few minutes ago, at around noon, I had just put the “medium sized pellet” of soil in a small cup of water for it to expand, which isn’t what I would expect to do when growing flowers. It increased about 4x in size and I placed it in the small pot that came with it. Afterwards, I placed three seeds a tiny bit under the soil and left it on the second ledge of my bedroom window so that it would get more sunlight. I didn’t think that I had to water it since that I just doused the whole pellet in a cup of water. I don’t think that it’ll start growing overnight, but within two or more days.
The short story “The Chrysanthemums” shows how extraordinarily forward thinking the author, John Steinbeck, was in his understanding of the pressures that women dealt with in his time. Through the exploration and illustration of women’s emotions, Steinbeck gives us a view into the struggle of women in the early 20th century to find a place for themselves in society as well as establishing their own sexuality(Charters, 502).

“The Flowers” by Alice Walker conveys a message of the loss of childhood innocence in a difficult situation. Myop, the main character is a little girl who is forced into adulthood because of the harsh realities of the time period: around the time when equality for African American’s was still a difficult subject. On a beautiful summer’s day, Myop discovers the decaying body of a man who has been lynch. Soon after that summer is over and so is Myop’s childhood innocence.

In a village of about 150 people, the is a woman named Lily. Lily is a widowed mother of two, a little girl named Jessica and a teenage boy named David. Lily is a special woman because, she can tell stories about her past life. One of her stories includes her being the Queen of England. She ruled during England’s rise to the top of the world power. She told people that England had the best navy in the world during her time of rule. She said that there were hardly any police forces to help with crimes. Anyone who had heard or seen anything, by law, had to stop and help.
“The Chrysanthemums” is a short story written by John Steinbeck. It was originally published in 1937 before later being released as a part of his The Long Valley collection. This is an important story as it expresses women in a way that is more realistic, showing their true boredom, ambition, and capabilities. The story begins describing Salinas Valley as a whole, covered by a thick layer of fog. The story then zooms in on Elisa, a middle aged woman in men's clothing, working passionately in her garden. Then approaches her husband, after just finishing a business deal, he invites her out to dinner as he compliments her gardening skills.
I decided to reply to the eighth discussion board posting by Destiny Williamson on John Steinbeck’s short story, “The Chrysanthemums.” I agree with Destiny’s point that the themes present in this story are passion, determination, and infidelity. Destiny also stated each character had a passion. For example, Elisa’s passion was gardening and caring for her flowers (chrysanthemums). Elisa took great pride in her work of her beautiful chrysanthemums.
The setting of “The Chrysanthemums” by John Steinbeck had a heavy hand in the development of the plot and characters in the story. The setting shows how some of the characters will react to certain situations. The setting shows us the character's way of life, how they eat, sleep, and go about everyday. The setting also shows us how the characters will help develop the plot. The plot and the setting go hand in hand.
Traditionally, the business performance of each regional manager is measured against a set profit plan, with Jacques rewarding his managers a fixed payout of 2% of corporate profits as a bonus. However, the organization is facing many business firsts, which when
"Honey, pack your things." That simple four-word phrase had my heart palpitating as frantic thoughts raced across my mind. I couldn't be moving! All of my friends were here, in Serenwood!. My pack was here in Serenwood. My mother smiled reassuringly at me, sensing my fear with her super-mom senses. As mother of five kids, not including my dad, who was a child at heart, she needed those abilities to raise her large family without going insane.
