about what they do not have enough of, the organization works together with others to put on this event with what they do have. They have a strategic partnership with a salon that provides haircuts, a party rental company that offers a moon bounce and other equipment for the kids to play on while they wait and a catering company that donates food so that everyone is able to eat at the event. It is an event that has evolved over the past few years to make sure that everyone that shows up is able to be accommodated. The founder also takes the time to listen to those that have been in the business for longer periods of time and have similar organizations. This can make the organization appear unprofessional and unprepared.
Personnel Practices and Policies As noted earlier, this is still a relatively new organization. Having only been in business for three years, they are still trying to work out policies. It has pretty much been a situation where it is “as you go” so things are changed when it arises. Strategic planning, personnel, training, recruitment, performance management and assessment, benefits and other aspects of the organization are not as defined as they should be. Strategic planning is one of the biggest areas needed for development. This area is necessary for organizational development because it will lead the organization out of its comfort zone (Alexander, 2000). Often the organization is left to wrap up details in a pinch because something fell through at the last minute. This planning can help with putting an alternate plan in place so that they are not just left with nothing in place and having to explain why they are ill-equipped. Everyone, from the founder down to the volunteers, must come together when it comes to strategic planning. Granted the founder has the final say; but everyone should come together and voice their opinions and concerns to be taken into consideration. The volunteers come together with the clients and know what they need. This can be something that the founder is able to see and note when it comes to planning. There has to be a well-defined and inclusive understanding of
A strategic plan is a tool that delivers guidance in achieving a mission or goal with maximum proficiency and control for an organization. Strategic planning is used to transform and revitalize organizations. The plan helps provide an inclusive understanding of opportunities and challenges both internally and externally for the organization. The plan delivers an assessment of the strengths and limitations that are realistic within the company. A well-developed strategic plan will offer a comprehensive approach and empowerment for the stakeholders involved. It is an opportunity for learning and understanding priorities that will drive the business to succeed. Jones (2010), describes how in health care organizations, strategic plans

Could you picture yourself growing up as in a world where everyone treated you differently or thought that you were stupid just because you are unable to hear? Well Mark Drolsbaugh experienced that first hand. He explains his story of how he dealt with his hearing loss in his novel Deaf Again. The book begins with a small child who could hear just fine, but as the story progresses he becomes hard of hearing and eventually deaf. All this happens with in a couple of years. Mark realized that he had a hearing problem in the first grade when he was presenting a toy for show and tell. Another student asked him a question about his item, but he was so far away Mark was unable to hear him. Mark's respond was a blank stare at the boy. The
“How We Listen” by Aaron Copland: Who is the Speaker? According to the passages, the speaker is Aaron Copland, a prominent American composer of the 20th century. Copland was a very prominent composer due to his explanation of the three steps of listening to music: sensuous, expressive, and musical plane.” Copland’s background information is evident through the italicized summary information in the beginning of the passage and also through his genuine perception of music.
A vital aspect of interpersonal communication is the style in which one listens. While every individual possesses their own preferred method of listening in communication, it can be enlightening to analyze our own strengths and weaknesses so as to maximize effectual communication. Within the confines of four main listening style categories, I have chosen those which best describe my own personal listening style.
Strategic planning can dictate the success of any organization if properly planned as well as the failure of an organization if not implemented as planned. Strategic planning is all about making choices. It is a process designed to support leaders in being intentional about their goals and methods. Simply stated, strategic planning is a management tool, and like any management tool, it is used for one purpose only—to help an organization do a better job. This portion of the strategic plan will explain why an

One significant thing that I learned from listening to the broadcast is that there were labor camps where many children starved to death and lived in horrible conditions that were unbarring. Also many others were murdered and killed in cold blood, and the very few who were able to survive the treacherous living conditions were forced to work from five in the morning to midnight. One person who was part of this labor camp was a man named Arn Chorn-Pond. One important thing that he was able to learn was the flute. Because he learned this he was able to play propaganda songs which without a doubt helped assure his survival in the horrible days that he had to live in the labor camp.
The ability to listen well is an important tool for understanding others. Sadly, very few people know how to listen well. In fact, most people can think of only one or two good listeners in their lives. Listening is not simply agreeing - it is much more. Good listeners are able to better understand and respond to others, complete assignments accurately, settle disagreements before they escalate, and establish rapport with difficult people.
Strategic planning involves making decisions about the organization’s long-term goals and strategies and how the organization decides to implement their goals (Bateman, Snell, Konopaske, pg. 113). Strategies help organizations to have a clear perspective on how to go about accomplishing the goals they have in place. All organizations have a clear vision of what their mission and purpose as a company is, they know how to fulfill the mission, vision, and purpose and they know how to ensure that they accomplish all their goals. However, the route the organization takes to define these things determines how effective they will be.
Active listening includes a variety of behaviors which communicate to the other that they are heard and understood, that the feelings which underlie the words are appreciated and accepted, and that regardless of what the individual says, thinks or feels, they are accepted as a person by the listener. Active listening demands that the receiver of the message put aside the belief that listening is easy and that it happens naturally and realize that effective listening is hard work. Good listening encourages the speaker, promotes trust and respect, improves relationships, and makes resolution of problems more likely. Good listeners are prepared to listen, show interest, keep an open mind, listen critically, resist distractions,
Those not thoroughly educated in communication tend to confuse the terms “hearing” and “listening.” Although they appear to mean the same thing, utilize the same body part, and are both required for functional communication, there is a great difference between these two actions. Hearing involves the perception of sound using the ears, while listening is based upon giving attention to the sound being perceived. Additionally, because these concepts are different, there are also several different ways of improving hearing and listening. Thus, there are several differences between these two concepts, and it is important to signify these differences in order to practice effective communication.
Listening is an important form of communication. Unfortunately, many people who do not know how to listen believe they can listen well. They often say "I have been doing this all of my life of course I can listen". Listening is not inherited, or a personality trait, it is a skill that must be worked on and practiced.
This paper explores multiple studies on the many listening barriers in communication. Specifically, this paper focuses on a study done about the frequent listening barriers and how they can affect listening effectiveness. In addition, It discuses the many individual listening barriers. It explores six major listening factors that come from the multiple listening barriers. The main study this paper revolves around is conducted by Steven Golen (1990), conducted with university students and their opinions of frequent barriers to effective listening. The study explores the most frequently encountered listening barriers in communication.
In this class, I’m learning quite a bit about listening. I’m learning how to listen and communicate better with people, especially when the things I’m listening to and talking about are more on the sensitive side of topics. I’ve always been a very closed off person, even from friends and family. I️ would have a hard time expressing my thoughts and emotions verbally and would get upset with people when they would try to pry. Friends and family would get angry with me when I️ wouldn’t talk or wouldn’t listen to them when all they were really doing was trying to help me. Very frequently when out in public it’s easy to observe this same kind of people or behavior. There are many more people out in the world with poor listening and communicating skills than you may think. For instance, those who get flustered when discussing certain topics whether it’s at the store or a coffee shop. If you like people watching, then you know what I’m talking about.
