In this editorial, we are being informed about what occurred about 40 years ago. Forty years ago, in Maryland, two sister went to Wheaton Mall and never returned home. Both sisters’ bodies have not yet been found. However, since last year police officers have named a person of interest in the case, Lloyd Welch. Welch was charged with two first degree murders, regarding the disappearance of both sisters. But, prosecutors will have a difficult time trying to prove he’s guilty due to the long time frame, and lack of evidence. The way the author wrote this editorial was okay. I felt as if they didn’t explain what their opinion was. However, the author did provide information to help understand what was going on. In my opinion, even though it’s
In June 28, 1984, Jennie Vincow, elderly woman of age seventy-nine, lived in Glassell Park, Los Angeles. His first intention was to steal her valuables; however, when he found nothing to take, he attacked Vincrow with rage. The man stabbed the woman repeatedly in the chest and slashed her throat from ear to ear (Carlo, 1996). He then had intercourse with her body (Richard Ramirez: The Night Stalker, n.d.). Her son, Jack Vincow, discovered his mother’s body later that day and called the police. The evidence at the scene included blood in the sink and fingerprints on the window that he used to enter the woman’s apartment. For a couple months, he stayed dormant, but he resumed his criminal streak in the next year.
The author does not provide a counter argument for his or her claims. The editorial also did not flow as well when read. The paragraphs jumped from one topic to the next. This made it very confusing where the author got his information. Claims are to be explained and provide other solutions. Claims also need to provide both sides of the argument not just one side. The author also did not use ethos or pathos to move the audience. The author’s lack of ethos and pathos gives a clear indication that this is not an

On November 21st, 1973 a man named Troy Gregg and his friend Floyd Allen were hitchhiking in Florida, they were picked up by two men, Fred Simmons and Bob Moore. Simmons and Moore’s car broke down, but Simmons bought another vehicle so they could continue onward. Still in Florida the men picked up another hitchhiker named Dennis Weaver, who traveled with the men to Atlanta. A while after dropping Weaver off at his destination the other four men, Gregg, Allen, Simmons, and Moore, stopped at a rest stop. The next morning the bodies of Simmons and Moore were found in a nearby ditch.
This article was very straight forward and he wastes no time stating how he feels and his point of view. With this being said he doesn’t acknowledge the other side. It’s his opinion and point of view basically makes the entirety of the essay. It’s a great essay overall. I will be using this article for my essay because it flows very well with my topic. I’ve used it before and in a previous essay and it strengthened my argument so I’m confident it will help my ethos.
I like and agree with you on the way as you presented your analysis, I agree that Elizabeth Svoboda makes use of real-life examples from start to ending not only to support her article, but to captivate the audience and make it more real and credible to the readers, and in the meantime, to support the what, why and how. I noticed the uses of Facts vs Opinion included this in your summary. You definitely established your agreements with the author with a solid basis.
Personally I feel as if the style and organization of the article is lacking extremely. Gerson

The occurring disappearances pile up in Bath, London. Recently, Billy Weaver, a young seventeen year old, disappeared after visiting Bath for a potential job interview. This case is remarkably similar to two cases two years ago, when Christopher Mulloand and Gregory W. Temple went missing. All three men were close in age. Surprisingly, they were all last seen in a boarding house. Her neighbors described the landlady as slightly dotty. Last night, authorities were able to arrest her after she was on the run from the police. The landlady, who allegedly killed the three men, was identified as Mrs. Susan Taylor, a forty-five year old woman. She confessed to killing the three young men with cyanide poisoning. Forensic investigators found fingerprints
We found the article to be interesting and insightful, and brilliantly written. We believe the authors have put their findings into context. The major points they should consider are the following:
In my opinion, the author didn’t have a perspective in this article. The purpose of this article was to bring attention to the
Stevenson was prompted to action after working in the early 1980s at a similar organization, the Southern Center for Human Rights (SCHR) in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of a Harvard course on race and poverty, he interned at SCHR and principally reviewed case transcripts that showed how poorly some trial attorneys had represented their clients. Stevenson returned to SCHR after graduating from Harvard and began spending time in Alabama representing death row inmates. One case concerned Walter McMillian, a 45-year-old African American pulpwood worker with only a misdemeanor record who had been convicted and sentenced to death in 1988 for the 1986 murder of an 18-year-old white female. Stevenson's interest was piqued by the racial overtones in the
