Personality is the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence his or her interactions with, and adaptations to, the intrapsychic, physical, and social environments (Larsen & Buss, 2014, p. 4). Within this paper one will venture into the life of a young woman by the name of Lola, who is battling personality traits that has left her life in a misleading direction. As Lola transitioned from childhood her parents began to notice the mood swings, and the undesirable thought to be wanted or needed by others and more importantly, the desire to isolate herself from others. Lola subconsciously changed over the course of her life without understanding delicate issues like entering into the world of relationships. Leaving her to explore more unwanted traits such as becoming emotionally unstable due to the disastrous downfall of her personal relationship, resulting in the lack of desires to enjoy life or focus in future endeavors. Now living in the world of a neuroticism, how many of Lola’s personality traits are/were formed by the guidance of self-destruction? Or is it safe to say, Lola’s life is a case of mistaken identity designed for her by the hands of her parents? In all honesty, the answer may never actually be completely accurate or properly answered but it may be safe to say that each person, including Lola played a part in designing and ownership of the active personality
Funder (2006) defines personality as a person’s pattern of thought, emotion, and behavior, with psychological mechanisms and underpinnings. Studying personality within the field of social psychology makes logical senses. While the study of personality psychology seeks to determine the various ways that people differ from one another, and figure out individuals from the inside out, personality within social psychology seeks to figure out individuals from the inside out in varying contexts.
