Throughout time, the progression and evolution of snowboarding has increased greatly. It has gone from non existence in the late 1970’s, to one of the most watched action sports in a matter of thirty-five years. The upward takeoff and popularity of snowboarding relies on two people, Jake Burton and Shaun White. Jake Burton back in 1977 had the vision for what snowboarding would be, but Shaun White had what it took to manifest that vision. Evidence has shown that time brings change in sports, history has repeated itself with snowboarding, this history reflects the time & changes that has occurred in America.

Shaun's mom told him to find something else to do, something that wasn't dangerous. She wanted him to find something to do as his career in life, but his career turned out to be snowboarding.

Once I got all my gear on and put my ticket on, I was ready to hit the slopes. The first step to learning how to snowboard are the basics skills for example, standing up, back heal stop, toe stop, and shredding. Learning these skills only took 2 days, but the other guys were struggling for a couple more days. When everyone has the basics down, we must keep riding the hills to get better. We rode on two hills called the EZ rider and the terrain. The EZ riders is more for beginners, it’s not as steep as other hills, wider trails, and easier chair lifts to get off. The terrain is a little harder it has jumps, rails, and other obstacles, steeper than most hills, and faster chair lifts. Riding the same hills repetitively slowly became tiresome. With even switching from hill to hill it felt like I was making the same movements, swaying my board side to side. The others guys happen to catch on to the technique faster than I was able to, but that never stopped me. Them getting better only pushed me harder because I wanted to be better than them and eventually I will be.

Bethany Hamilton is a brave surfer who survived a shark attack and faced her fears to continue doing what she loves. She was born in Kauai in 1990 and started surfing when she was 4 years old. At the age of 8, she got a gold medal in her first competition and since then she would have the first place in every championship she took part of. She was so talented that she could do amazing tricks that surfers her age couldn’t. Therefore, she had Rip Curl as a sponsor. However, in 2003 she was laying on her surfboard with her left arm underwater and a tiger shark bit it. Luckily, she was accompanied by her friends, so they helped her to get to the beach. Although she had a tremendous fear, Bethany didn’t hesitate in returning to the waves
