What is love? Webster defines love as “a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties <maternal love for a child> (2): attraction based on sexual desire: affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3): affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests <love for his old schoolmates>.” Love comes in many forms. Unconditional love, the love of a mother for her child, romantic love, the love for your partner and passion or lust, a more sexual emotion towards a person. Love, although clearly defined gets interpreted by each person differently, it plays on human emotion and on human beings themselves.

Romantic love, although not clearly defined, usually implies an expression of one's love, or one's deep emotional desires to connect with another person. (en.wikipedia.org) Romantic love more complex in nature tolls with the human heart. This love deals more closely with human emotions than physical desire. This love connects our hearts and gives us the freedom to express our internal emotions. Oscar Wilde once said, “Men always want to be a woman's first love - women like to be a man's last romance.” (brainyquote.com) In saying this, he fully understood and stated the very complex truth of romantic love. Romantic love tends to revolve around emotional desire. We as human beings, men and women, perceive this love as we choose. As we interpret these intense emotional desires we form ideas and conclusions in an instant. Throughout the ages men have put the idea of romantic love on paper. When Romeo said, “With love’s light wings did I o'erperch these walls, for stony limits cannot hold love out, and what love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me.” Shakespeare Romeo & Juliet (2.2 66-69) I feel he speaks the pure essence of romance. Romance gives man the power to conquer all, to feel like an invincible army, an indestructible force and yet gentle and loving as man’s best friend. Romeo to
Have you ever felt the feeling of butterflies in your stomach or heard the phrase “my heart skipped a beat for you”? As children, we grew up learning from our elders and experiencing new beginnings in life. Much of our knowledge has been brought upon by what we see and hear, rather of what we know. Many important decisions we make in our life has to do with what our feelings show us. Love is an important matter in our life because it motivates us in different ways. Love can be shown through emotions or even through actions. What is a valuable definition of love? A brief definition of love can be said to be a variety of different feelings or attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure. In other words, to me love is when
One of the most complicated experiences in life, love cannot be precisely defined, but some basic indications help to characterize the feeling. Love is a very deep, passionate affection one person has for another or a relationship of the same nature that implies a unique intensity of emotion. It requires an especially strong connection and compatibility between two people, usually identified by a total understanding and respect for each other and a fundamental similarity in ideology. Love can also be seen in the way it alters people’s normal behavior; when someone is in love, the object of their affection seems like the most important thing in the world, and they do extreme things for that feeling to be requited. Love cannot easily be
Love is a variety of different emotional and mental states, typically strongly and positively experienced, that ranges from deepest interpersonal affection to simple pleasure. This value is precious amongst all humans, it is what makes or breaks us. Not only does love remind us of a time that was relevant or memorable,
By definition; love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. Love can be interrupted in many ways. Were we ever taught love or is it just a natural feeling towards a person? Some say you'll know the meaning of love when you fall in love, yet some don't believe in love at all.
Love is a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person (Dictionary 1). Love is what is known as the “universal language”. There are so many ways love can be interpreted. The central message that the comfort humans receive, and the shyness they feel for an individual are compartments of love that may not always be touched on in poetry.
The word "Love" has many different descriptions. People use the word to describe their favorite foods, how they feel about certain music, or how they feel about their spouse. Although many people use the word love very often, they don't know the true meaning. In my opinion, love is when you care for another person very deeply and you would do absolutely anything for them.
Romance is different from love, even though ideally, they should occur together. Romance is the emotional component of love. Romance adds the sparkle in your eyes. Romance adds the perfume and the colors. Romance embellishes the scenery and swells the music. Romance is the gilding of love. Romance is gold leaf. It is ornamentation. Romance sometimes becomes a means unto itself. It even becomes a cheap substitute for love at times. Some people seem to desire the trappings and embellishments of romance in place of genuine relationships. By comparison, romance is superficial to love. Romance is skin deep. Love is heart deep. Romance requires things that love does not require. Romance requires gifs and surprises and lavish attention. Romance sometimes demands things that contradict love. Romance is offended when the gold leaf wears off. Romance condemns love that is not eye-pleasing. Romance often injures and denigrates true love because love doesn’t always appeal to romance’s selfishness.
Love is a force that inspires us to feel more, do more, and sometimes sacrifice for the object of our attention. Poems, music, relationships are all written in the name of love. There are six kinds of love, according to the ancient Greeks:
people, love is affection based on admiration or common interests and warm attachment, enthusiasm or
Love is defined as “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person”. Love is something that everyone has felt at one time or another in life. But nowadays people tend to use the word love so frivolously. Love is something people spend their whole lives searching for, while others fall in and out of love on a daily basis. Love is rarely defined because everyone experiences love in their own way. But in order to understand what love is, you must first understand some of the different types of love like fraternal, platonic, and romantic. These are a few types of love that help to define such a special and complicated emotion that we all need to live a complete and fulfilling life.
What is Love? Love can take many different forms or degrees, and have completely different meanings depending on the individual. Because of this, love is often viewed as being impossible to describe and express in just words. According to psychologists, love is often viewed as an involuntary emotion in which a person seeks for a strong emotional union with another person. For me, love is being with people who let me be myself and who I enjoy spending my time with. Love for me can be hanging out with friends, or spending time with family. But, even with these parameters, I still love some individuals and experiences more than others. Trying to type what love means to me is far easier said than done. Because it’s such a deep, complicated
Love is also defined in the dictionary as "strong affection," "warm attachment," and "unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for others" (439). All of these definitions are completely correct, but the dictionary does not explain how it feels to love someone. The reason that an explanation for this feeling is not found in the dictionary may be because love is so different for each individual person. In my experience, "strong affection" does not even begin to cover the sensation and emotions a person feels when he or she is in love. Love is compared to "the extraordinary sun / splashing its light / into astonished trees" in Denise Levertov's "Love Poem" (2-4). Like the sun, love is great and bright and fills a person with extreme joy. Love is greater than anything else a person could ever experience. A lover can even be better than a summer's day, as the speaker in Shakespeare's poem suggests. He compares his lover to a summer's day by saying that she is "more
The other day I was babysitting my three-year-old niece, a most conniving little angel. As she sat gawking at my girlfriend's brother, Matthew, who was eating potato chips, she told me that she loved me "so much." She had already devoured her potato chips, but she obviously wanted more. Many more expressions of love proceeded to drip from her lips. Finally, the question came; "Reg, can I have some more chips?" At first, I thought this little show of bribery was cute and funny, but then I started to think about the true meaning of love. What is true love? Poets, philosophers, religious leaders, and the American media all have different definitions for this word. Too often, love is conceived as doing whatever it
One can love a sister, a brother, a mother, a father, grandparents, uncles and aunts, cousins and friends, strangers, pets, the sunlight on a warm evening, reflecting through a prism, held by fishing line stuck to a little suction cup to a dusty window. You can love food from cake to roast beef, even those tiny individual candy bars that are never enough but just give you a taste of chocolate before you pop in the second one. One is able to love the feeling of carpet between toes or the tension in a hammocks string when you lay in that 'u' position swinging delightfully with each motion of your body. We can declare love for sounds coming from a stereo, love for that particular sound wave in coordination with other
Romantic love is a love that not every person will experience. It is a type of love that is not there at the beginning, but grows within the individual. When one finally finds the love they have been looking for, one can not imagine life with anybody else. Romantic love is a connection between two souls that is captured with a feeling that is not only felt within the heart but within their body as well. I have never been in love with a girl; I can only imagine what it might be like to be in love. Guessing from my sister’s relationship with boys, it seems like a big headache instead of a wonderful feeling.
