You’re walking along the beach, it’s a beautiful day and you feel like you can do anything. The salty air tastes fresh and the slight breeze is cool. The sand warms your bare feet. All of a sudden, you’re flying with the seagulls, zooming down the beach along the crashing waves. Then, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! You wake up in your bed with messed up hair and the alarm blaring. Sigh, time to go to work. Dreams are often liberating experiences, fantasies that take people away from the demands of the waking world, especially if they are lucid dreams. Lucid dreams are when someone is in a sense, awake in a dream. The person knows that they are dreaming and can sometimes even manipulate the very fabric of the Dreamscape. Dreams are a very important part of life, humans spend over one third of their lives asleep, but it is all too often that dreams are forgotten or muddled. This study was conducted in order to investigate a possible way to remember dreams more often and to have them be clearer instead of vague and blurry. …show more content…
The main chemical that needs to be known is serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is created within your body. As a neurotransmitter, serotonin regulates the signals between neurons. (McIntosh) Serotonin is also very important in regulating your mood. Not enough serotonin can lead to depression. Another important chemical is 5-HTP, the precursor to serotonin. When taken before sleep, it causes serotonin suppression in the beginning or the night. That then causes an REM rebound later on in the night, which makes dreams to be easier to remember. (Hurd) REM (rapid eye movement) is a part of the time spent asleep, when the brain is just as active as it is when it is awake. This is when dreams occur, often accompanied by rapid eye movement. This is also when lucid dreams
When you have a precognitive dream it will give you a premonition of the future, yet it is rare that your dream will reveal the exact manner your future will happen. Instead, your dream will come in symbolism or an event happening. You may have no idea what it means, which is why I suggest you make a record of it for future reference. Please write down your feelings in the dream, especially if it felt like this was going to happen in the future.
Throughout history, numerous people have studied the human body and its many functions. One area of the body that causes much confusion and controversy is the mind. Many parts of the brain baffle scientists, but a specific aspect of the mind that is fascinating and puzzling is dreams and their functions. It is surprising that an average person dreams for at least six years of their life, but scientists still do not know the role of dreaming (Shaw). Several theories have been presented to provide a reason for dreaming, and attempt to explain what most do not understand. Although dream research has been prominent lately, no agreement has been reached on which theory is correct on the purpose of dreams. Some believe that dreams are only
This morning I woke up agitated and moody. I was lucid dreaming basically all night so I am really tired because my mind was on and racing all night. After I had my coffee I was good to go.
Lucid dreaming - you are in a dream while you are still inside that dreamyou realize that you are within it you are able to understand what is going on and being able to control it, enjoy it etc. lucid dreaming is a happy beautiful sensation . its amazing thing to experience but just like anything there are two sides so everyt spectrum and what seems to be the opposite of lucid dreaming is known as sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is something that each time we sleep at night we enter it , when entering rem the dream cycle of our sleep stages are body goes into something known as atonia. This atonia esttentially paralyzes our muscles and does this for a good reason because when we are in dreams and acting our those dreams in our minds, we wouldnt
Once you feel yourself in a dream, say aloud “I’m dreaming” and you’re free to do as you please. Try flying, or doing something you can’t usually do.
I’m trapped. I can’t move. I’m stuck in between being awake and asleep. I think I’m having a lucid dream. I start going into sleep paralysis. I feel this weight on my chest and it is getting harder to breath. It feels like something is squeezing my neck and stomping on the chest. My dream started off weirdly joyful. I was sitting on the beach, staring at the sunset. Listening to the waves crash and the seagulls flying over my head. I was enjoying myself looking at the ocean, but I could still feel the weight on my chest and the hands around my throat. I suddenly fell into darkness. I was surrounded by screaming. I felt like I was falling off of a cliff. I tried to open my eyes but I couldn’t. I then feel a crash. A loud bang. That was the sound
Sleep is often accompanied by the hallucinogenic state of dreaming comprised of lucid thoughts which can often seem like real life. Recently recorded studies and experiments have exposed the world of dreaming to physiatrists. Dreaming parallels many life experiences and is unique to each individual person. With the recent observations of lucid dreams and the studies of the REM sleep, this field has vastly improved its understanding and knowledge.
My exploration of books, videos and websites about dream interpretation and lucid dreaming is vital as many individuals experience these issues and it impacts their daily lives.
As I got into position, waiting for our command to attack from Tȟašúŋke Witkó (Crazy Horse), all I could think about was the dream I had last night. All I remember from the dream is a loud bang then total darkness. I had no idea what my dream meant, was I to die or was someone else. The thought never left my head. So I waited there on top of the ridge overlooking The Little Bighorn River down below the Greasy Grass field. It was rather chilly that mid-June morning, which was unusual for this time of year.
Do you enjoy your dreams? People usually fall into two categories, those who care about and enjoy their dreams and those who believe dreams are useless and insist that they don’t dream. Through many experiments, however, scientists have proven that everyone dreams and people say they don’t dream because they can’t remember their dreams. It has been proven that dreaming is both useful for brain development and releasing stress. Knowing this, wouldn’t you like to dream about whatever you want and remember these dreams? Lucid dreaming entails just that, the ability to gain consciousness within your dreams and mold them into experiences that you can enjoy or that will help you delve deeper into a better understanding of yourself.
I was floating in a vast swimming pool. The world was quiet, simply still. Out of no where the clouds began to darken and my peaceful world turned into a nightmare. For some reason my body started to swim down. I swam and swam until I found a small opening at the bottom of the pool. I went through the portal only to find a large shark coming straight towards me. I turned to swim away, but the walls began to close in on me. I thought this couldn't possibly be real, until I heard the booming sound of my father’s voice saying, “wake up Mackenzie you're going to be late!”
Future prediction, whether through a precognitive dream or a psychic reading, rarely give a play by play of how an event will exactly unfold; which had made some of my past clients very angry when I used to work the psychic lines. One female caller wanted to know if she was going to get a lot of money from her soon to be ex-husband. My Angels answer was, “You will be taken care of financially.” She became furious when she ask the questions three different ways and my Angels kept giving her the same answer. At one point she yelled, “You’re not answering my question!” My response was, “This is the way my Angels are answering it.”
I just stared at my desk stunned. I kept asking myself if what I heard was true or if I was just in a lucid dream. I had just talked to Ben the day prior; “there was no way that he could be gone,” I said to myself. I could tell that this was definitely not a dream when I looked over to my friend Robert and his face was flushed of color, just like mine.
In accumulation to psychology and therapy, a lucid dream is any dream during which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming. The dreamer may allegedly be able to utilize some grade of control over the narrative, people, and environment within a dream. Many people would describe this type of dream as “a place where anything is possible.” Lucid dreaming can be applied for creativity and problem-solving. Quoted from the article Ten Things You Didn’t Know about Lucid Dreaming, “Only one in five people lucid dream every month or more. In 1988, Snyder & Gackenback conducted a survey which found that 20% of people claimed to lucid dream frequently (every month) while 50% of people had done it at least once in their lives,” (Turner. 2016).
