After reading the Macro Periodization paper, it surprises me how much planning and precision go into every aspect of training a athlete at Concordia. Reading the goals of the periodization really stood out to me, because these goals are what is going to lay out the overall theme of an athlete's training routine. Whether it's decreasing the risk of injury, or improving the many components that improve an athlete’s performance the goals set for the training of Concordia athletes is amazingly well organized and executed. What I took from the Program Design Section of the paper, is that Concordia macro periodization is not focused on training our athletes like bodybuilders, but instead we design out programs in order to improve the performance of Concordia’s athletes. …show more content…
In the final, and the most important section of the paper, the Concordia University Wisconsin Macrocycle is laid out with every detail, and generally workout concepts an athlete will participate in throughout the athletic year. After reading this portion of the paper, many parts of the macrocycle look very familiar to me, as I have already gone through them. What I took out of this that I felt was the most surprising aspect of the macrocycle, was how well thought out, and how far ahead the preparation is for the training of the university's athletes. The thing that I took out of this paper that I will try to take with me the rest of my athletic career, is that there is a lot of preparation and effort that goes into my training here, and these training programs are made for my benefit, so I should not waste the strength coach’s time by not giving it my all in the weight room, or not showing up at all. I will continue to follow the macrocycle for the rest of my career here at Corcyra, and hopefully it will take me to new heights in my athletic
Transition: Now that we have explore the negatives of our current physical education system lets
What many people fail to see in an athlete is the amount of talent in them, the commitment they have, the intense training they go through, and the competitive attitude they posses. The physical challenges they face and endure is astonishing. An average person works eight hours a day behind a desk with his computer. Imagine working the same number of hours everyday while training your abilities, maintaining your physical form, and sharpening your skills (Anonymous par. 4). That is what a professional athlete endures. Athletes face short career lengths. They also face a lot of competitiveness; therefore, an athlete is at the top of his game when he is still young. Professional athletes also face the risk of career ending injuries when they are fighting to win a game and be the best they can. Combining all those problems they face, the average career length of an athlete is five years (Keown par. 2). Not only do these athletes need to stay in shape, but they also have to perform well. But all the hard works leads to health issues such as lack of sleep, fatigue, and continuous tension (Wilson par.3). If they are not able to put up to the
Because I am acknowledging the importance of the role of an athletic trainer, I am able to welcome the assortment of tasks I may come in contact with. By embracing the athletic training program, I will consistently strive toward the best alternatives and resolutions in circumstances I will be involved in. Because I sense the significance of this profession, I will provide the best care for each patient I come in contact with. I recognize the significance of
Athletes are giving it there all both on the field and in the classroom. College athletes are brought to the school on scholarships to play sports. These athletes are giving it there all going back and forth from classes, to the weight room, to studying, and to practices. But they mostly spend a lot of time practicing rather than going to classes. ““These young men are laboring under very strict and arduous conditions, so they really are laborers in terms of the physical demands on them while there also trying to go to school and being required to go to school.” Says Robert McCormick (2011, Kenneth J. Cooper). What Robert means is that these students have a huge amount of work load on them while also being required to go to school at the same time. These athletes aren’t like every other students. Even before the school year starts, athletes have to come to schools weeks early. Having a summer off is what normal college students have
Students in college have to balance many activities: school, friends, work, health, and everything in between. Being a student athlete adds a whole new workload. Not only do student athletes have to balance class, studying, and homework, but they also have workouts, meetings, events, games, and of course, practice. Not even mentioning a social life, a student athlete 's daily schedule is already packed full. Typically, a student athlete wakes up, goes to a workout that is followed by classes, then another workout, and finally time for studying and homework.
I developed a character to be a representative of the main audience for my essay by taking the characteristics of individuals observed in McComas’ weight room and combining them into one persona. Based off of this, the persona is a male Virginia Tech college student who is familiar with the weight room and the concepts of body building. He is in good physical shape, and wears typical gym clothing, such as gym shorts, sweatpants, t-shirts, or wife-beaters. He has long-term experience with the majority of the weight and machines found in McComas’ weight room, and falls into the category of “serious lifters,” rather than just an occasional gym-goer. He is very perseverant in his work out regiment, and has a focused mindset.
I work as a gymnastics coach at Trousdell Gymnastics Center. It is a recreational center that provides programs for all Tallahassee residents, specializing in gymnastics and exercise. The goal of this organization is to provide a safe and affordable program that keeps the community fit and engaged. They offer recreational gymnastics classes for boys and girls of all ages. There are also preschool and kindergarten programs for the younger children. On the other end of the spectrum there are adult classes that teach gymnastics and overall fitness. In addition, the gym offers classes for children with special needs. Finally, Trousdell offers a competitive gymnastics program for exceptional boys and girls. Three Olympic gymnasts have come through this program. Trousdell Gymnastics Center is named after a former Tallahassee Parks and Recreation Director Randy Trousdell, a man passionate about his community and the health of its children. Since it’s opening over 60 years ago the gym has impacted 500,000 children’s lives. I coach recreational classes for girls ages seven to fifteen years old. I begin every class by leading an extensive stretch and then we go to the events of the day where I set up stations for gymnasts to practice different skills. I end every class with conditioning to help the gymnasts grow stronger so that they can perform skills successfully. Trousdell Gymnastics Center coaches have a responsibility to these children. It is our goal to make the two hours a
Prior to designing the training program, fitness testing was completed. This tested the main fitness components that would be applied in physical activity. It was important that this was done in order to find my strengths and weaknesses
To satisfy my curiosity and gain a broad understanding of athletic training, I chose to interview my boss, Pete Stevens. Pete is employed by Physiotherapy Associates, a nationwide corporation that specializes in physical/occupational therapy, athletic training, and fitness/sports training. He has worked there for three years. He is currently the Head
Works in conjunction with other sports-related individuals, such as strength and conditioning staff, to create safe and effective exercise plans in terms of “fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs [that are] customized to meet individual student-athlete needs”.
Before creating the periodization plan, the demands of the sport must be assessed to determine the physiological and physical loading that is placed
The training program on the next few pages is and example of 6 six weeks of training, 2 weeks each consisting of the off-season, pre-season, and the in-season. As you can see, the off-season is very high in volume for both the weight room and conditioning on the track (relatively longer as well, ex: 600s and 400s), while the intensity is rather low. This is done mainly to increase cardiovascular endurance and strength which will be the base for pre-season and in-season workouts.
The proposed sports tabloid afternoon provides an opportunity to consolidate the Health and Physical Education lessons conducted throughout the year. Students have been engaged in health and physical movement that have enable them to acquire, apply and evaluate fundamental movement skills, concepts and strategies confidently, competently and creatively in a variety of physical activity contexts and settings (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], 2013).
Lastly, Neil discusses athlete’s eligibility, attendance, and treatment. He explains how often athletes miss classes they are paying for and sometimes the classes are not correct for their major. However, the athletes were placed in them so they were still eligible
Zero period for athletes has always been mentally conceived of as a negative conception, but we will be discussing the benefits of a zero period for athletes. Athletes are always looking to getting more practice in, so they can become better athletes and a better team. Additionally, the zero period could be benign to non- athletic students as well! They would utilize this as a free period to catch up on homework and makeup assignments, and to socialize. Several students cerebrate Zero Period is subsidiary, here is a quote from a non-athletic student showing the usefulness of an extra period; i.e: “I like them because i conventionally get most of my homework done in those periods and I don't have to do any homework
