Ever since Madeleine Albright was a young girl, she has been exposed to politics. Madeleine Korbel was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on May 15, 1937. Her father was Josef Korbel, who was a member of the Czech diplomatic corps. Due to World War II, “When German agents took power in Czechoslovakia in 1938, her father, an outspoken opponent of the Nazis, was targeted for execution” (Salem Press 16). To avoid death they moved to England, where she learned fluent English. After the war they returned to Prague, but then moved to New York, where Josef was in the United Nations. Hilary Clinton was born on October 26th, 1947 in Chicago Illinois to Hugh E. Rodham and Dorothy Howell Rodham. She was raised in Park Ridge Illinois with her two siblings Tony Rodham and Hugh Rodham. Clinton attended Wellesley College and soon Yale University to earn her law degree. In between taking college courses, she was heavily involved in various jobs such as working on U.S. Senator Walter Mondale’s sub-committee for migrant workers in 1971 and taking part in western states for the campaign of the democratic presidential nominee, George McGovern, in 1972. Graduating in 1973, she went on to enrolling in Yale Child Study Center to study children and medicine, later earning a post-graduate year of study.
For women criticism by the public was common because they were not home with their children. When looking at the loss of privacy, it is more definite when someone’s campaigns turn ugly. Especially single women feel this threatening of loss of privacy. Women are always getting asked questions that pertain to the home and family. Nothing seems to sell like the privacy of women politicians (page 29). When women fail, they tend to take it personally. Madeleine struggled in 1981 when she first ran for governor and lost. She said she was devastated. Women struggle to make losing less personal and tend to let it affect their lives.
