3. Maintain machinery to prevent overheating and friction sparks.
4. Report electrical hazards. Many fires start in faulty wiring and malfunctioning electrical equipment. Never attempt electrical repairs unless you are qualified and authorized.
5. Maintain free access to all electrical control panels. Material or equipment stored in front of the panels would slow down the shutting down of power in an emergency situation.
6. Use and store chemicals safely. Read the label and the Material Safety Data Sheet to determine flammability and other fire hazards. Provide adequate ventilation when using and storing these substances.
7. Use all precautions to prevent ignition in potentially explosive atmospheres such as those containing flammable liquid vapors or fine particles. Use non-sparking tools, and control static electricity as required.
8. Help maintain building security to prevent arson fires. Lock up as instructed; report suspicious persons; and don’t leave combustible rubbish where it can be set afire outside the building.
9. Smoke only in designated areas, and extinguish smoking materials safely. Never smoke in storerooms or chemical storage areas.

There are many procedures, but the last procedure that I am going to look at is Gas Leak. There are many ways or things that are needed to be taken under consideration in order to maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment. As in the event of gas leak or the suspected gas leak, all the staff must extinguish all naked flames and do not switch ON or OFF any electrical appliances including lights. Do not operate any electrical switches, either "ON" or

Since most fires are fought with water, it is important to understand that water may be ineffective or more harmful when dealing with certain materials. The guide numbers listed in the orange section, can point firefighters to the correct method for extinguishing the fire. Often times fighting a flammable liquid, fire will need a chemically mixed foam instead of water. The emergency response number listed on the shipping document should be contacted quickly to inform firefighters of the correct method and potential hazards they may encounter. Often times, water is also used to dilute spills reduce vapors. Since some chemicals react poorly to water and could potentially cause explosions, spread fires, or create a more toxic environment, it is necessary to refer to the emergency response and potential hazards sections of the orange, three digit guide section.
The best ways you can prevent fires and injuries in your home is to make sure your home is up to date with current fire codes. This paper gives an overview of just a few of the ways fire companies can help limit the spread of a structure fire. A few factors to take into consideration that are discussed here are ventilation, nozzle type, and time. Along with the ways that these concepts can help reduce the spread of a structure fire are ways that, if used incorrectly or misjudged, can greatly worsen the situation and the behavior of the fire.

The steps for fire safety include installing carbon monoxide detector and alarm detector, easily accessible and working fire extinguisher, check chimneys and fireplace annually and repairs and cleans as necessary. Develop an escaping plan for each room and floor in the home to follow in case of a fire emergency. Practices the plan to familiarize yourself and family members, teaches family members to get out of the home first before calling 911. To escape from a home on fire checks the temperature of the door first and do not open it if it’s hot, crawl low if there is smoke, and stays in the room and call 911 if there is no escape possible (American Red Cross, 2011, p. 151). For home safety, enter and place emergency number such as 911, national poison help hotline, family’s healthcare provider, and any others important numbers on all the family members cell and near every phone in the home. Childproofing the house, putting knobs on doors and cabinets, and keep any hazardous substances and objects out of the rich of children should be taken into consideration when there is a younger child in the household (American Red Cross, 2011, p.
This analysis will take a look at some of the ways that Indiana University-Purdue University of Fort Wayne can improve on their annual security and fire safety report for the upcoming year. While the report is 77 pages long, this analysis will only focus on pages 22-32. Also giving examples of what they did well, what might want to be revised, and what can be implemented to create a better all-around report.
