Managing Oneself Peter Drucker argues that we live in an age of unprecedented opportunity; that people can make it to the top no matter where they start (Drucker, 2005). However, no matter what natural talents you may possess, people still need to learn how to manage their lives and their careers over a fifty or more year period. He asks people to ask five primary questions honestly about their career. 1.What are my strengths? Intuitively, I believe that my greatest strengths lie in the fact that I am intelligent and ambitious. I also work very hard to achieve my goals. However, with that being said, Drucker believes that the best way to get a sense about your own personal strengths is through feedback. When I think of all the feedback I have gotten over the years, I think this validates the intelligence intuition. I have also been quick to find answers and many people have come to me for advice. However, it is harder to find feedback evidence for my other intuitions. 2.How do I perform? Am I a reader or a listener? How do I learn? I believe I am definitely a listener that learns best by doing and talking. I have always preferred to jump right in and learn things on the fly as I go. 3.What are my values? When I think about who I want to see in the morning, I definitely want to see someone with a lot of integrity. I would like to be able to make my intentions clear and live my life transparently without secrets or shady dealings. I was once told that you shouldn't
With me being a listener I generally use to many details at times, I also can talk too much and ask too many question that will tend to annoy people. In the Vark's study there are two types auditory learners, Verbal intelligence and musical intelligence. Verbal intelligence is know speaking verbally. Examples of this would be a lecture, Sunday morning Preaching, and discussion
How would you describe your own current level of skill in listening more generally, and in reflective
I am an auditory learner because to learn I have my friends (or flashcards, when alone) quiz me. I enjoy talking problems out with myself or with friends and family willing to listen. I also enjoy listening
Managing Oneself by Peter F. Drucker has transformed the way I look at myself, and as a result, it changed my entire life. When I first read the book I learned many new questions to ask myself such as; what are my strength’s, how do prefer to learn, as well as how do I perform? All of these questions provided me with a plethora of information on how to manage my life and make the most out of it. I use many of the strategies that the book mentioned in my everyday life; all of which supply me with insight into who I am and who I should be. Without this book I would be a different person, I would still be searching for who I am and who I want to be. I loved this book because it supplied me with information on personal matters that have improved
The listening process is a multistage process that involves "receiving, constructing meaning from, and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal messages" (pg. 109). In order to listen effectively it is necessary to attend to, interpret, evaluate, and respond to the message. The steps or stages to the listening process are as follows: attention, interpretation, evaluation, and responding. The first step is attention, which deals with the act of selectively focusing on certain communication cues while also ignoring others. One important key aspect to being a good listener is learning how to take control of one's attention by setting goals ahead of time and redirecting attention when it strays away. The second step is interpretation, which deals with the act of assigning meaning to the stimuli that captures our attention. Interpretation is often guided by our own individual patterns of thought as well as social expectations and is definitely open to many errors. By
It is a tough job market out there for both job seekers who have much experience and who just start to look for a job. People buy self-help books, Google career advice, and read articles for their career development. However, when they are trapped in a phase of their careers, they need to turn to a career coach. Figuring out what career to embark on or which career to switch to can be overwhelming, confusing and frustrating! So how do you make the best choice for a career of a lifetime? Thanks to technology, we all can have access to a self-assessment test which can help anyone that is struggling in what career to embark in. What I suggest is to spend some time fleshing out a picture of your ideal life, which doesn’t have to include a specific description of an ideal job, or an ideal business just yet,
I, Will help map out a better way for the patients and caregivers to feel more involved in their plan of care and gain power and understanding to their ongoing care in a SMART goal manner. This will be carried out by making the patients and families feel comfortable warm welcoming when it comes to making decisions in the healthcare setting. I will help them understand to their level of comprehension by involving them in activities related to self management in their health and care. By being there to assist the patient and family during the time of health support will help decrease fear and anxiety of the unknown when health is on the line, providing emotional support and physical comfort is very important when someone feels scared and ill at the same time. The staff involved will allow the patient and family to have full access to their medical record and will review all areas of file if needed to fully accommodate the family and patient. Most of communication will be face to face and if needed, there will be additional resources available to get the message across. The process will be patient centered meaning specific to individual patients’ needs and families. The whole patient will be consider including culture, population, special values, emotional and physical needs of the family and patient. ( Institute of Medicine,2003)
I am an auditory and tactile learner this means that I learn best by hearing and touching. I’m in the best position to learn when I’m hearing people speak and touching the actives or anything in general. This includes listening, drawing, moving, and building in class activities. Also I learned that by shaking my foot and using flashcards while humming or talking to myself I will remember things that I studied or learned in class. I will help myself understand and learn things better. I am an auditory and tactile learner and there are things that help me learn and things that don't but I will always help myself by listening and touching.
> I have always considered myself as an audio learner, I feel that I learn best when I can discover my work.
Self-management requires one to be able to accomplish one’s goals and is responsible for one’s own behavior and well-being. Self-management skill is not only important for oneself, but it can affect one’s surroundings: organization and people. A manager should possess an understanding of ethical issues, have strong work ethic, have high tolerance for ambiguity, and express responsibility toward commitments. I find that self-management is closely tied with self-empowerment because to be able to manage one’s behavior, one has to be motivated to do so. Because for the most parts, I am a motivated individual, I will use my motivation to enhance the ability to manage my behavior. The characteristics that are important to self-management are integrity and honesty because these characteristics deal with ethical issues. Integrity and honesty are two of my values that I try to carry into every task and projects I have done. It is significant for me to demonstrate these values because trust is the most important in building an interpersonal relationship. Once the trust is broken, the relationship becomes difficult to repair.
Companies no longer hire people out of high school or college and provide them with career security for the rest of their life. In some ways, career management has become an independent enterprise, something of a sole proprietorship, or as a recent book reflected in its title, “You Incorporated”. This trend is a clear indication that you must take full responsibility for your life-long career success and satisfaction. Thus, as with any successful business, individual career management should follow the same process that successful organizations use in
