This is a great choice. Marie Clay certainly is a pioneer in her field. Her research projects have greatly impacted reading education(Albee, 2013). Reading Recovery is one of Clay’s important contributions to education(Albee, 2013). Like the pattern of her work, the program emanated from close involvement with keen insight into those closest to the source. This research came about from the concerns of classroom teachers who, despite well-designed classroom programs and good teaching, were not able to change the paths of progress for particular children. She has made a great impact on how we view and teach reading Albee, S. (2013, March 22). John Newbery: Instruction with Delight - Sarah Albee. Retrieved September 15, 2015, from
Ruth Love funded a reading program, National Right to Read, in two different facilities. One, in a federal prison for women and the other in a juvenile correctional facility. Through this program, inmates are either reading for the very first time or have improved their reading level. Also through this program, the inmates have the opportunity to teach reading to other inmates. As a result of this program, inmates have a better chance at finding and keeping a job.
I am elated to have the opportunity to apply to California State University of Fullerton's Master of Literacy and Reading program. I graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 2013. There, I received my Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies, with an emphasis in Spanish, as well as my Multiple Subject Credential. After graduation, I taught Kindergarten for two years in Greenfield, California. It was there that I learned my passion for teaching reading skills to English Language Learners. I soon realized the joy and cohesiveness literacy can bring into a classroom. For the past three years I have taught first grade at a small rural school in Shandon, California. I was extremely honored to be chosen to travel to Kansas City in July 2017, to
I am touched by Richard Wright's essay and surprised at his potential to read books despite the risks he was taking to get books from the library. Being that
Emma Willard was raised by her father who was a farmer. He encouraged her to read, write, think independently, and to attend a local academy. Right after she began teaching. In 1809, she married a doctor named John Willard. Then she opened her own school, the Middlebury Female Seminary, in 1814 and provided advanced education for young women who were denied by colleges.
Throughout my journey in high school, I’ve made an incredible progress with the support of my teachers. Starting with my English teacher in Junior year, shannon Lupin. From her life lessons to her teaching moments, she was able to inspire my love for reading

Chapters that connect to Wendy Mass’s novel, The Last Present from Thomas Foster's, How To Read Literature Like a Professor for Kids are “More than just Rain, Snow, or Springtime rain,” “He's Blind for a Reason”, and “It’s Never Just Heart Disease… and Rarely Just a Illness.”
Marilynne K. Roach is a resident of Watertown, Massachusetts. She went on to graduate with a BFA from MCA (Massachusetts College of Art) but she uniquely gives credit to the public library systems for the rest of her education. This is very interesting to me because she says that libraries are what she owes to her education to. Because of all the books she reads she later turns out to be a great book writer herself. The library system really did impact Marilynne’s life drastically. But besides illustrating other writers work in history she also has written and illustrated many books of her own, this including “Six Women of Salem”.
Judy Gross went to, and graduated from Teacher’s College Columbia University. She is certified as a reading specialist, and found joy in helping kids becoming better readers. She helps kids in the second grade, for the most part.
As the nation’s First Lady, Laura Bush is keely aware of the opportunity she has to share her love of reading with Americans; especially young children. As a child, Laura Bush dreamed of one day becoming a teacher. Promoting her dream, Laura was introduced to books at her local library. She was born in Midland, Texas. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education
Unequivocally, there are no words in the English language to describe how I truly appreciate and respect Priscilla Budzinski. Throughout all of my high school career, Mrs.Budzinski has been my guide and mentor. Freshman year of high school, I walked into Mrs. Budzinski’s classroom lacking of the combined missing character traits in the Wizard of Oz: a brain, a heart, and nerve; alas, Budzinski acted as the Wizard behind the grand curtains pulling strings to demonstrate that all traits were inside of me the entire time. Wholeheartedly, I had no idea what honor classes were, let alone AP classes, but Mrs.Budzinski fundamentally transformed my entire life when she had implored me to take her AP World History class. My first AP class was brimming
Condoleezza Rice is a strong woman leader, who studied political science. I was influenced by her relationship with education, international studies, and government. She is the former Secretary of State, under the Bush administration. The impact of learning about other countries, effects of the world, and perseverance. I'm influenced by learning multi interdisciplinary studies in education and leadership. I want to examine the cultural diversities in social economics, poverty, and benefits to change some race
I will use the Literature circle to enhance the student’s ability to collaborate on a higher level so that they can move toward independent readers, molding them to integrate in a powerful classroom activity that will activate their critical thinking skills. I will do a book study and have students to meet and discuss the importance of rotating their roles giving everyone an opportunity to share the responsibility. I will teach how to highlight in different colors distinguishing each student reading.

Based on the discussion of Lucy’s personal interests inside and outside of school, it may be motivational and effective to inform reading and writing instruction by using her favorite book series, Jack and Annie by Mary Pope Osbourne. The series follows a brother and series through their time travels to places in the past, the future, and places that are only in their imagination. Lucy lit up talking about the book series and mentioned that she would like to take a magic carpet ride to Paris, France to ride around in an “electric wheel chair.” She made it known that the magic carpet ride would have to take place in the future because in the past there was “no sunscreen and everything was cheap.” Since Lucy enjoys time travel and animals, it may enhance her word and reading study by incorporate book with those themes. The Personal Interest Survey was the first assessment to be administered to the student. The next survey to be administered to the student will be the Elementary Reading Attitude Survey.
