ABSTRACT
Training and development is a process that entails a comprehensive assessment and methodical nurture of the employee’s potentialities keeping in mind, the company’s requirements and objectives. The purpose of training is to increase knowledge and skills for the job under consideration.

The human resource comprises of skills, attitudes, knowledge and innovative spirit enshrined in the human minds involved in a particular organization. Training and development is one of the many essential functions of human resource management; it is deemed as the planning learned experience by which employees are taught various aspects of a given job and most importantly how to perform a job and or a future tasks. The basis for training and development implementation is to mold an efficient employee who performs tasks effectively resulting in optimum productivity, which aids in an organization’s overall aspirations. Rob Rosner’s 1999 article titled "Training is the answer ... but what was the question? 20 questions to make sure your training really works." starts with a cautionary tale about training seminars gone bad. The author conveys an incident at a health care training seminar where the trainer’s admission of knowing nothing about health care, derailed the training program before it even started. After the conclusion of the seminar, the trainer presented his participants with a congratulatory decorative cactus for completing the seminar. When one trainee was asked what he got out of the training; he commented “I got a cactus” (Rosner, 1999).
