ABSTRACT

Training and development is a process that entails a comprehensive assessment and methodical nurture of the employee’s potentialities keeping in mind, the company’s requirements and objectives. The purpose of training is to increase knowledge and skills for the job under consideration.

Training has always been an essential part of an organization’s efforts to recruit and effectively employ people on its ongoing processes. Training people to perform organizational task better is one thing and maintaining the organization as an ongoing system is another.

The human resource comprises of skills, attitudes, knowledge and innovative spirit enshrined in the human minds involved in a particular organization. Human resource are said to be the major factor behind the progress or fall of any organization of a nation. Worldwide realization as to this fact is responsible for the change in the attitude of employer towards the employees. An employee is no longer treated as a mere working tool or laborer but as part of human resource, with a human element, which distinguishes human resource from machine.

Human resource management is concerned with the people dimension in management. Since every organization is made up of people, acquiring their services, motivating them to higher levels of performance and ensuring that they continue to maintain their commitment to the organization are essential to achieving organization’s objectives. This is true, regardless of the type of organization – government, business, education, health, recreation or social action.

With the world-wide expansion of companies and changing technologies, Indian Organizations have realized the importance of corporate training. Training is considered as more of retention tool than a cost.
