It is now scientifically backed up and we are still doing it. It is hurting america every day it is allowed to continue. It continues to harm us physically and mentally. People are finally realising that the amount of tv we watch now days are killing us and harming use mentally. There have been study after study telling us that amount of time we spend in front of the tv or on our phones is bad and not at all beneficial to us at all. The amount of time an average teen spends on digital media so longer than the time we do anything else it is even longer than the time an average teen spends sleeping which is 7 hours we spend up to 9 hours every day according to the digital diet of american teens by rawhide. The first reason tv and other types of media is so toxic to us is the amount of time we the average american spends on it is absolutely outrageous. A study was shown in this is your teen on screens that says that only 20% of teen and kids get the nine hours of sleep that are needed for that age and 45% get less than 8 hours a night. This fact really shows how much time we …show more content…
In the digital diet of American teens by Rawhide it states that 72% of parents are a worried that their child will reveal inappropriate information to strangers online this fact shows how the internet can be really dangerous. Teens and kids can be bullied or catfished online without the parents or guardian ever knowing. Students are catfished when someone on line impersonators and says that they are someone completely different from who they really are. The bad things that you can do on the internet and using media is endless. I think just limiting or having a parent monitor your media could help out a lot. Even if you do have a parent monitor you moves on the internet it might help out some but the only sure fire way to make sure that nothing like that will happen is just to not use it at
Some people say that too much screen time for children is bad for their health. Others argue that it's perfectly fine for children to enjoy some time with the TV. I personally believe that in moderation, TV isn't that bad. In the article, It's Time to Let Go of Screen Fears, it states that kids who watched telvison with parent showed signs of decreased anger and fear. In my own experience, I've seen the positive affects that TV has on children. Although it can be a good thing, if you don't limit your time with the TV it can be harmful.
In modern day United States, the media is a huge pool of information that is always apparent. Almost every household in America has a television; hundreds of channels on the television are mainly news, local or national such as Good morning Colorado, Good morning America, and World News Tonight, even talk shows such as Late Night w/Jimmy Fallon are fueled by the media.
Imagine being able to receive breaking news at just the click of a button. It seems impossible that anyone could tune into a news station and learn endless facts about people that they have never heard of, or even met. For the citizens of the United States, this is an amazing everyday reality. America has evolved into a society where information is accessible at any time. Thanks to the help of the media, Americans have become almost completely omniscient. In times of crisis or celebration, citizens used to have to rely on others to keep them informed. However, now all American citizens have access to all different types of news. Whether they like it or not, the American people
A T.V set may be more dangerous than the kitchen stove because not all the programs are desirable, which most Americans own a T.V set. There are many television critics, which I have heard critics express negative opinions about most of the programs on television. The chief objections are that television has raised the crime rate among young people and has caused students test scores to go down, which we let these programs into our house every night. In addition, many parents believe there is too much sex and violence on the shows, when networks put these shows on early in the evening. Indeed, the majority of the shows are full of fighting and killing, when networks offer these programs night after night.
The world is not the same as it was one hundred years ago. The influence that the internet has had on the rest of the world has been astronomical. Since the conception of the world-wide media, America has been able to spread its’ influence more efficiently than ever. Through the media, food, religion, politics, and music, the world can see a little bit of America all over the world. And so, this essay will cover the topic of how America has affected the world of music specifically. As well as “has the internet and the media hurt or helped the diversity, uniqueness, and quality of the musical world”?
Former SIS agent and novelist David Cornwell once said, “I suffer from the same frustration that every decent American suffers from. That is, that you begin to wonder whether decent liberal instincts, decent humanitarian instincts, can actually penetrate the right-wing voice, get through the steering of American opinion by the mass media.” In this weeks reading we read about the events happening after the cold war and beyond. These being subjects like the NATO expansion to internal reform. However in one section of the reading it talk about the events of the Somalia and Bosnian humanitarian effort and the shocking reality of America’s view on it. Being born in America, we have all have heard and influenced by the idea of America being a peace keeping and leading Humanitarian force in the world. Yet the history of America is anything but. With fights only
When someone asks you if you like television, what would you say? Well for me I would answer yes, evidently to Robert Macneil that that is our problem. According to the article, The Trouble with Television by Robert Macneil, Television is addicting. By the age of 20 an average person will have watched an average of 20,000 hours of television. Plus after that 10,000 hours for every decade you live after the age of 20 that is a lot. With that time you could be out of school living on your own and not at home. I really wish that you could finish school at your own pace and not have to get up so early.
In the 1960’s, homosexuals began to surface into mass media and the world. At the beginning of this time period up until modern times, the way they are portrayed on media has influenced the thinking of the American people (Hart, 3). It was not until the mid to late 1980’s that gays were beginning to gain access to TV shows. Before their debut onto television, however, there were a number of stereotypes going around on mass media and the world and much of it were derogatory terms or anti-gay jokes. In 1970, television began to partake in the stereotypes of homosexuals, but specifically towards gay men (Hart, 4). However, these stereotypes do not hold true for all homosexuals and as times move forward towards modern times, a better
Giant Pools of Money Home ownership has been widely viewed as a cultural symbol in the United States. We become emotionally tied to the desire of owning a home. In order to fulfill this desire, we look towards the right financial institution willing to provide a home loan and we then start the process. However, the decision process we use to obtain a home can sometimes become clouded and covered in biases. This gives tremendous leverage to financial institutions. In the early
Is television bad for you? Most Americans say that television is bad or harmful to their children. It provides too much inappropriate contents for their children to see at their age. It is because that some children only watch television at home and their grades have dropped, so most people would believe that television is harmful since their or their child’s grades have dropped, television only stops your brain cells from multiplying as much. Studies show that the first 2 years of your life are critical for brain development and television can get in the way of exploring, playing or even interacting with others which can stop brain development at that young age. As children get older, television can get in the way of
Television has been around for many years, it has influenced every single American, and it has done this by affecting how we live our lives, start conversations with people, our actions towards things. Television is a good way to entertain ourselves but for as much as we do it as Americans it is not healthy for our brains and bodies. It's as if our eyes are glued to these machines, when we could be outside doing something active, making friends, getting more fit, and just simply socializing. A statistic says that the television is turned on for at least seven hours a day if not even more, and there are close to fifty million television sets turned on every night. Television is not healthy and we can stop by making our children be active and
In the article, “How TV Watching Affects Health” Amanda Gardner discusses how watching TV can raise the risk of a person developing health problems every time someone sits down to relax and watch TV. Researchers from the American Medical Association says that for every additional two hours people spend watching TV their risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases by 20%, and their risk of heart disease increases by 15%. The more time we spend stuck watching our favorite programs and being glued to the TV increases the likelihood you are to die early or develop serious health problems. It also states that TV watchers tend to eat more processed foods and have an unhealthy diet. Perhaps that is because of all the TV commercials which encourage
¡§The American Academy of Pediatrics¡¨ shows a recent study of the impact of television on children and teenagers:
Can you imagine the actual number of people who watch T.V.? People spend more time before the television, than any other thing. Nowadays, even children, to be more specific, toddlers spend most of their time watching T.V. Shouldn?t they be playing with their toys inside or outside, playing in the yard, going to the park for a walk or to play on the swings and slides? Don?t you remember when you were young when your parents took you to the park? All kids went to the park, but nowadays, the park has been substituted with the television and video games (for youth). Maybe this is also a reason why many of our children are obese. Because the television producers have created television show
Television is something that is widely known across the United States and many other countries. It is something that is used on a daily basis, whether it is to pass time, watch the news, or just spend time with peers with common interests. Television is something that is said to cause many harmful things to one’s health. For example, its link to someone developing antisocial behaviors, lowering verbal IQs, altering the brain structure, and obesity. Considering all of these things, television is still something that many people have grown to love, it allows them to access alternate universes, engage their imaginations with things they never thought possible, et cetera. Although these things are beneficial to artistic values, people do not consider the effects of sitting on the couch for hours on end having a binge session, watching their favorite show on Netflix or Hulu.
