The core problem presented in this case primarily resolved around border control issues that both the United States and Mexico are facing. The issue consisted of immigration, drug trafficking, and violence. All of the issues more so arose because of the lack of police funding and police enforcement on drug and border related issues. The lack of police funding causes some of the law enforcement in Mexico to look for their money elsewhere, and drug money is the easiest and most untraceable outlet for them. The United States is impacted the most by the problem and this is why they are offering to help Mexico. Each of these presidents has been gifted with executive power that is essentially upheld by the democracy form of government each country has. Democracy keeps the scope of their power explicitly limited. They have the power to sign or veto legislation efforts, command the armed forces, convene or adjourn Congress, and receive ambassadors. The strengths of the President of the United States is the military power they possess and him having direct access to commanding it.
One of the weaknesses of the President of the United States is all of the money that is spent on healthcare because of illegal drugs, “In the U.S., illegal drugs already cost $180 billion a year in health care, lost productivity, crime, and other expenditures. The President of Mexico has the weakness of shrinking the country’s economy by 63% with the loss of the drug business. He would have to find a way to rebuild the economy of the country with no drugs, which we essentially lead to the country going through a depression. On the other hand, the President has the United States can be used as an ally because the United States is Mexico’s largest drug market. Both of these countries want to eliminate illegal drugs in general, therefore this commonality is strength for Mexico.
The President of Mexico has the option to leave the drug business alone in his country because of the amount of revenue that it provides for the economy. The President of the United States has the option to send more troops and try to help Mexico and stop drugs from coming into the country as well as limit immigration. The United States President also has the option to leave it completely alone and let Mexico deal with its own problems. The President of Mexico also has the option to reach out to other countries for help, or deal with the drug cartel problem
