Microsoft Windows has evolved into an operating system that is very reliable and dependable when it comes to getting task done on a daily basis when a computer system is needed. “In 1975, Gates and Allen form a partnership called Microsoft. Like most start-ups, Microsoft begins small, but has a huge vision—a computer on every desktop and in every home” (Microsoft.com). In this paper I will discuss the history of Microsoft’s Operating systems and security features available during each stage of advancement over the years. In 1980 MSDOS was created which was used to be able to execute programs but there was a learning curve when it came to the commands that was needed to navigate around the operating system. Security and virus protection was not thought of during this time because a typical infection we are use of in todays world was less effective during the beginning of the Windows OS and the Internet was not a factor. MSDOS was a wide-open system where anybody could access and edit any file. Windows 1.0 was released in 1985 and added a interface feel to the operating system which made it easier for users to navigate. Now, rather than typing MS‑DOS commands, you just move a mouse to point and click your way through screens, or “windows.” Bill Gates says, “It is unique software designed for the serious PC user” (Microsoft.com). “In Microsoft’s official history of Windows, it recounts that Windows 1.0 shipped with “several programs, including MS-DOS file management,
