Being courageous means to stand up for someone or something and to be brave to stand up for the right thing. In Mildred Taylor’s book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, she discusses the harsh reality of discrimination and courage to stand against it in the 1930s South. Cassie is the most courageous person in the book and I think this because she stood up for Little Man, she confronted Lillian Jean, and she said something to Mr.Barnett. She does this because she doesn’t think that it’s fair to be treated differently just because she is a different color than others. Little Man gets a dirty old book and all the whites get nice and new books. Little Man likes things to be nice and in order. He looks in the book and gets upset because he is getting
Standing up for what you believe in isn’t always easy, but if you have the courage, you can do anything you put your mind to. Throughout the book, “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”, by Mildred D. Taylor, I feel that Cassie Logan showed the most courage. Even though she didn’t quite understand why her family was treated the way they were, she knew it wasn’t right. She showed courage when she stood up to Mr. Barnett, when she stood up to Miz Crocker because the “new books” were dirty, and also when she had to stand up to Lillian Jean. For a girl Cassie’s age, she had a deep respect for not only herself, but also the others around her.
Cassie Logan is a black, nine year old girl living in rural Mississippi. Throughout her life Cassie displays many different qualities, she can be feisty, sassy, and clever, but most of all she is courageous. This does not just mean she is plucky or tenacious, it means she is “brave and/or fearless” (Merriam Webster Dictionary). Whenever she shows this quality, she stands up for herself, as well as others. Being courageous is so important simply because she is a black girl living in 1933. Racism was very common at that time, and standing up for yourself was the only way you would get respect. However, in some incidents described in the book, Cassie changed her life for the better and took one step closer towards a fairer world. There are three
Courage is hard to have. Especially when there are people judging you. In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, there are many great acts of courage shown. Courage is something you use to overcome fear. In the book, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Mr. L.T. Morrison is a African-American who is very mistreated by whites. He is a very loving, loyal, brave, and kind person. Mr. Morrison proves that he has courage by showing that he is brave and not afraid of the Wallaces, losing his job on the railroad, and he helped papa go to Vicksburg even if he knew that he would have to face some consequences. Mr. Morrisons actions prove that he is not afraid to stand up in what he believes in. He will give up anything for the people that he loves. He shows that he will do whatever he has to do to be able to be treated equally.

Contrast and compare the ways in which the characters of David and Hammer Logan deal with the issue of prejudice in “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”
Courage is not always easy but could sometimes cause sacrifice. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. For my courageous character i choose the very important Stacy Logan. He is a segregated 12 year old boy in 7th grade with very brown hair and wide eyes that you can tell from anywhere. Stacy's makes very courageous and strong choices made him look like her cared for what he wanted and cared for his family.. He has done many courageous acts like stopping the bus from getting himself and his brothers and sisters including his really good friend from a very long friendship T.J., sometimes Stacey and T.J. have their ups and downs the one incident Stacey has to get on to T.J. for cheating on the big exam in their class
In Chapter 5 of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Cassie’s innocence causes her to find herself in frightening situations. Cassie, the black female protagonist of the story, lives in 1933, in Mississippi, where instances of racism happen daily. However, Cassie, because she is 9 years old and her family wants to protect her from the injustices of the world for as long as possible, doesn’t have a clear understanding of why the white people in her life are doing bad things to her or knowledge as to why her actions create disruption within the white community. In fact, “a lack of understanding and knowledge” is a definition of the word innocent (Dictionary.com), which describes Cassie perfectly in Chapter 5, although she may appear mischievous to others.
Sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to, but it really takes courage to get through it. In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, Cassie Logan is a very sassy, outspoken eleven year old girl that, in my opinion, is the most courageous character throughout the novel. Some things that made Cassie courageous was that she stood up for Little Man, her little brother, at Great Faith Elementary School, stood up for her and Stacey, her older brother, at the mercantile, and she had to ‘grow up a little’ and apologize to her rival, Lillian Jean Simms. Cassie truly had to be courageous to get through the hard times.
Many people have different opinions on the meaning of courage. To Kill a Mockingbird has many characters that fit the definition well, such as Scout, Atticus, and even Calpurnia. Each character shows honesty, braveness, and standing up for what they believe in throughout different chapters. Courage is something everyone has but may not show it, Scout for instance, is just being herself, but she is courageous.
Courage doesn't rely on the wealthy or the poor, it relies on the brave people's actions of the world. In the book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor introduces us to a young girl, named Cassie that wants to stand up for her beliefs even though there were many road blocks throughout this book. There are many ways that Cassie showed courage, but I chose three of her quotes. They were when Cassie stood with Little Man and helped him, she tried to stand up to Mr.Barnette, and she stood up to Lillian Jean Simms. Cassie´s actions proved that she wanted to make the racist part of her world, not really be there anymore, so she could have a fair life. She was sassy and very outspoken because she always stood up to white people and I think
Courage is when you will go do what is right when the right might be tough. Comentairy cassie was brave and stated her opinion all throughout the book for instance she stood up for little man and stood up too lillian jean. cassie has the most courage and i think this because at the beginning of the book she stands up for little man then she stands up to lillian jean along with standing up for papa when he was getting talked about behind his back.
Courage is when you fight for others and believe in what you always have.Even when your discriminated and that is what Cassie Logan shows.

Cassie made many choices that proved her sassiness and how outspoken she was. She loved her family and had deep respect for the land they lived on. During a time period when the word “equality” meant nothing to those who surrounded her, Cassie shows those who see her actions that she is willing to face the many consequences that lie before her with standing up for her beliefs.
