Many complicated, stressful interactions take place between our thoughts, our bodies and the outside world on a daily basis. Ignoring the effect these interactions have on our physical and emotional health directly affects our ability to effectively deal with even the smallest of problems. By being mindful of these interactions, we can create a foundation that helps us navigate stress in a healthy, holistic way.
Mindfulness Meditation is paying attention to where we are in any given moment; regardless if that moment is joyful, painful or anywhere in between. It is a practice and skill that can be developed over time. The results range from improved physical and emotional well being to a deeper connection to self and others.

In the first decade of the 1900’s, the United States is beginning a progressive movement and increasing involvement with foreign affairs. The president during this time Theodore Roosevelt, a republican, was one of the first modern presidents the United States had encountered and he began to not only expand the power of the presidency but also industry, business and military. This time period in the United States was know as Imperialism. Roosevelt felt like the only way to expand the US power was to strengthen the Navy and create ports throughout the sea for worldwide trade. Artist William Allen Rogers, a prolific artist during this time saw what Roosevelt was doing and drew a political cartoon of Roosevelt marching across the Caribbean Sea with his “Big Stick”, this piece was known as: “The Big Stick in the Caribbean Sea”. Big Stick diplomacy contributed to the lasting effects on the world; many presidents used this idea and expanded imperialism; the use of Roosevelt’s idea result in many foreign affair and wars involving the United States.

The hypothesis is projected that mindfulness interventions will alter and improve the way the teachers score the students and perceive their behaviors as well as the students’ ability to improve academically and behaviorally when extended interventions take place. It is suggested that mindfulness training serves as a benefit to the students as well as the teachers in that it will train the teachers to conduct their classes in a certain manner as well as train students to practice a mindset that is conducive to formulating what is a non-disruptive learning environment to both teacher and student.

The study had just 15 participants and each underwent an MRI while pain was induced. Each participant was then taught mindfulness meditation and given another MRI. One group meditated during the MRI and pain induction and the other group did not. The meditating group experienced a 40% reduction in the intensity of the pain.

I am my theory and what my theory says about me is mindfulness. I am at peace with myself. While mindfulness most commonly practiced and cultivate through meditation, being mindful does not necessarily require a meditation practice. Simply put, (which isn’t easy), paying attention in a sustained and particular way such as on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally. Why I chose mindfulness techniques?? Throughout these years, I learned that multitasking is the enemy of focus. I always thought that multitasking is a reflection of one’s talent, wrong, rather keeps us from truly living the present.
