Teamwork is an extraordinary characteristic for any organizations or groups to strive to its fullest potential. According to the Greenberg text “An organization is a structured social system consisting of groups and individuals working together to meet upon some agreed-upon objectives.” In the movie Miracle, the theme of teamwork is portrayed through the Men’s Hockey Team’s head coach Herb Brooks leadership in training recent college graduates to play hockey in one of the most challenging competition in the world, which were the 1980s Olympics.
The theme of teamwork plays a vital role in this movie because coach Brooks did not want all-star players during the tryout sessions. He wanted to build a team based on individuals who were hardworking and loyal to their own team. Even though Brooks faced criticisms from the advisory hockey board but at the end he succeeded to lead the team by his own means and was given permission to take the team to the Olympics and towards the dream of getting a gold medal. In the movie Miracle, there was a splendid portrayal of the team’s journey of formation to performance for the gold medal. According to the Greenberg text, there is a five-stage model of group formation, which includes: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. In the movie the ice hockey team goes through the five stage of group formation within six months. The forming stage was basically when the team members were selected and we able to meet each other and at
Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick is the story of a special friendship between two boys. The movie version titled “the Mighty” stars Kieran Culkin(Kevin) & Elden Henson(Maxwell) & is a good visual repetition of their adventure. They meet differently and the ornithopter is used in a different way they also show Kevin’s journey to save Max. They deleted the part where Kevin calls Max earthing. They added where Max finds a picture of his dad with his mom and Iggy and Loretta.
After reading the book, and watching the movie, I really enjoyed both. Both, the book and the movie, included the scene in which Kevin and Max returned the purse to Loretta Lee. Returning the purse proved that Max was not like his dad, he had the heart of his mother. Another similarity was that when Max came home in the police car after saving Freak, Grim gave Max a cup of coffee because he believed that he was becoming an adult. The final similarity was the way that Max dealt with Freak’s death. His way of getting over the situation was writing in the empty book about Freak the Mighty’s adventures.
The motivation of the coach in the movie Miracle was to change the way the hockey team worked together by preparing them through advance exercises that will have them trust each other and work as a team. To work as a team, they must set goals for the team to accomplish. An Everest goal is a goal in which there is specific details on how to achieve their result. His goal was for everyone to come together and work as a team to be the number one team in the league, and the team will become number one by practicing together and acting like a family. Being part of the team is individual performance, then team performance. It was never about being the best team in the world, there was more focus on working well together, having the right attitude and communication that helped them win the Olympics. Individual players practiced improving their skills and in turn they contribute to the team to work smarter together and be a stronger team.
Glory is the story of Robert Gould Shaw and his command over the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, which was one of the first all-black active duty regiments in the Union Army in November of 1862. The movie speaks of Colonel (Col) Shaw’s bravery, his pride, his empathy and love for his Soldiers. Col Shaw himself was from a wealthy Boston family with parents who were influential abolitionists. At 23 years old, Robert Shaw dropped out of Harvard to be commissioned in the Union Army to fight in the Civil War of the States. This movie is based on a true story and the letters that Robert Shaw wrote home and in his personal journal are currently located in the Houghton Library of Harvard University. The movie is based on the factual accounts of these letters. The manner in which Robert Shaw led the 54th Infantry was a direct result of his first experience in combat; it was the Battle of Antietam (Maryland).
During the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980. USA, a team that consisted of college kids defeated the heavily favorite Soviet Union in hockey. Eventually, team USA won the gold medal against Finland. USA’s first gold medal since 1960 in hockey. The 1980 USA hockey gold medal victory is arguably the greatest moment in U.S. sports history. The 2003 film Miracle is about the events that led USA to victory. Also, the film exemplifies that an underdog can truly win. In my opinion, the film Miracle is the best well-made and most influential sports movie. I give it 10 out 10 stars, based on the realistic action scenes, inspirational quotes and underdog story.
Accepting relationships have the ability to allow individuals in society to deal with their inner conflicts. This establishes the beginning of transformation a feeling of belonging. The film Glory, directed by Edward Zwick, allows the audience to discover the significant American Civil War that raged through America for four years. In 1860 black people were treated unfairly and inhumanely. This film explores this along with the long lasting effects of racism and bigotry on relationships with others and society. Black slaves are freed in america and join the army. In the confrontation scene, Trip and rawlins, two black men from the army, confront each other. Zwick utilises the alternating close ups of the two men to allow the audience to experience the tension between them that enables Trip, the protagonist, to finally deal with his inner conflicts. This tough relationship seen in the colloquial language “But you ain’t gonna be anything to him but a ugly-ass chimp in a blue suit.” elucidates the derogatory reference of a chimp. This allows Trip to realise he is not the only black person treated unfairly, therefore he shouldn't take his inner conflicts out on others. Having relationships like Trips and Rawlins often gives individuals the ability to reflect upon themselves. In the next lake scene, a mid shot of Trip and Robert, the colonel, is utilised by Zwick to display the characters and also the water behind Trip that represents tranquility and the cleansing of his internal
In the years leading up to the Civil War there was an abolitionist movement in the United States. This was primarily a northern state movement; the southern states relied heavily on slave labor to work their fields. As the war raged on, the Union government decided it would confiscate the property of Confederate sympathizers, this included slaves. As the slaves were confiscated they were sent behind Union lines and were then declared free. The film Glory tells the story of the 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry; the first all-black unit in the Union Army…made up of free black men and freed slaves.
The team concept is really present and important in this movie. We can see that the team presence is really helpful for each athlete. They encourage themselves when they do something good or wrong. We could see when one person was failing, the others would try to motivate him for the next time. There was a good connection between them and it helped them perform better. By giving tips to each other, they were all able to achieve the goals they wanted in every place they were.
Over the course of the unthinkable achievement of the United States hockey team winning gold in the 1980 Winter Olympics, the goalie of team, Jim Craig absorbed nine strategies that make great team, in sports or in any other body of work that has a team. Before the Olympic games most of everyone was writing that it was a given that the Soviets were going to win the hockey portion of the Olympics. Herb Brooks created all of these strategies, and Jim Craig learned these strategies from the way that Brooks was coaching the team and the events that transpired 1979 to February 24, 1980. The nine strategies included ideal of the way that teams thought of themselves, to individual battles, to strategy of the game, and how they plan on achieving the goal set in front of the team.
Paradise Now is a 2-hour film released in 2005, it depicts a perspective alternative in a highly controversial topic of suicide bombers or also known as a ‘martyr’. The movie takes place in Palestine during the Israeli occupation and illustrates the mundane life and frustration felt by the main characters Said and Khaled due to the oppression experienced during the conflict. A key feature that is also portrayed is the reasoning, and almost justification of an attack on that level. However, the perpatrators can be seen showing feelings of hesitance and even inquisitiveness in relation to the afterlife that they are promised and whether violent resistance is the last option. This paper, will discuss how “Paradise Now” provoked my views and
“You represent a great ideal”, says Adolf Hitler to the 52,000 workmen standing below his podium, in Leni Riefenstahl’s 1934 film Triumph of the Will. The men are their to see their leader, to see Hitler speak about Germany in a new era and further more the bringing Germany together as one. The propaganda played out in this film, displays the scenes were biased towards The Nationalist Socialist Party, providing possible mis-leading information and further speeches incased as heroic yet being quite juxtaposed. The film surrounds the leader of the Nazi’s in a positive way and further the population of Germany accepting and respecting him (Hitler) as their leader and Almighty.
Synopsis: When the USSR hockey team took on the United States in the 1980 Olympics, more than just a gold medal was on the line. Probably one of the most political games in history, this particular game symbolized one of many “battles” of the Cold War. In the, movie Miracle, this story of the underdog is told over, with a strong focus on American coach Herb Brooks and his relationship with his team. The movie highlights the extremely hard work done by the team and the demanding Coach Brooks unrelenting passion to win no matter what. The crux of the movie lies within the game with the Soviet union and those stomach wrenching moments before the game even started, as players knew that at this point it was make it or break it.
Having played a variety of team sports throughout my life, I saw a lot of parallels throughout the class work on team building between positive teamwork and success. “High Five! The Magic of Working Together” by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles offers four keys to developing a highly effective team. The authors use a parable story telling technique about a youth recreation hockey league, the Warriors, to demonstrate how implementing the four concepts can turn around a team to success. They parallel the process to show how the same techniques can be used in the business world. The title “High Five” is used to express the practice of “high fiving”, the slapping of hands in the air by teammates, to demonstrate the togetherness of a group of people coming together with passion and excitement. The high
I just watched The Incredibles and I loved it. It was full of funny moment and great action scenes. I usually find animated movies childish and boring, but this is a great move; especially for the family.
