I chose to research a social occasion setting, which was called Mission Rock Club. The club is located in San Francisco, Ca, and is an 18 and older club on Thursdays. Mission Rock opens at 9pm and closes at 3pm. People start showing up at about 10pm and 11:30pm. Sometime, if the females get to the club before 11pm, they will get in for free. Other then that, the cost is $20 and if you’re on the guest list $10. Everybody who was 21 got in for free. I call this environment, the culture of nightlife and clubbing.
This club is real big, in fact, the building is two stories. There are different DJ’s that play different types of music. Upstairs the DJ was playing rap and R&B music, and downstairs the DJ was

A lot of people didn’t leave the club after it got shut down because when I came out, the street was full of people. It looked like a block party out there. When I was outside, there seemed to be an even amount of males and females. But actually, I think there were more males then females on the inside. A lot of male were standing on the wall or on the side of some where. I noticed when a guy got a girls attention it was either, touching of the hand when they walk by, making a lot of eye contact and smiling, and coming from behind and whispering in the ear. The whispering in the ear is to intimate for somebody I don’t know, I don’t want nobody touching my hand unless their real cute, and the eye contact is the method that works for me. A lot of males would approach a female by asking them if they wanted a drink. So, I had seen a lot of female at the bar, because they weren’t paying for the drinks. When I was on the dance floor, the males wanted to stop dancing and go and talk. The females seem like they were more interested in just dancing and have fun with their friends. I looked at this like, “Okay, were at the club so lets just dance and have fun, and I’ll get the number and talk later”. Now usually, I think this would be the other way around. I thought females would want to talk more. I also noticed a lot of females taking bathroom breaks and they didn’t even have to go. Everybody was in the mirror saying, “girl, how
As of late, Stone Mountain has been repeatedly mentioned on the news and social media concerning the NAACP’s request that the Confederate Memorial Carving and other Civil War symbols be removed as it pertains to the racial conflict that presided over the Civil War. Without a doubt, Stone Mountain proves itself to be an important historical site for America’s history with its origins dating back to the time of the Native Americans. Stone Mountain can be remembered by history has a location where the Creek Confederation and the Cherokee people met. As more land began to be opened for white settlement, an influx of white settlers began moving in and establishing a town at the foot of Stone Mountain. Atlanta, known as the railroad hub of the South, has many railroads going from Atlanta to different parts of Georgia with Stone Mountain being one. This later led to more business for the town of Stone Mountain as people from the city started to visit the great mass of granite. Granite was a needed rock
The Sixties were an exciting revolutionary period with great cultural change. Some people called it the “decade of discontent” (Britannica) due to the race riots in Detroit and La, and the demonstrations against the Vietnam War. Other people called it the decade of “peace, love, and harmony” (Woodstock 69). This decade was identified as such as a result of the peace movement and the emergence of the flower children. (Britannica) The sixties were about assassination, unforgettable fashion, new styles of music, civil rights, gay and women’s liberation, Vietnam, Neil Armstrong landing on the moon, peace marches, sexual freedom, drug experimentation, and Woodstock. All of these components caused a revolutionary change in the
Today I’ll be talking about the play “Blackrock” that I’ve been studying in class this term, the purpose of this speech is to make us think how Australian drama challenges us to think about Australian culture and identity, and the impacts it can have on us as person and as a community.
I hereby write in regards to admission into Grand Canyon University. As a matter of fact, I chose this particular university based on its Christian values as well as the excellent students it has produced from the wide variety of quality courses. The university has also shown a commitment to developing their students all-round through extra-curricular activities and other areas with the fact that it was the first ever for-profit university- and the only one too- to participate in Division One athletics for NCAA. The institution offers me with the best environment and university to pursue my education and foster the attainment of my long term ambitions and dreams.
It exhibits many famous DJs and groups from that time. Freestyle MCing is shown with rare footage of one of the godfathers of hip-hop, Grandmaster Flash, pulling off an awesome scratch-mix set. During this time it was not uncommon for scenes such as the ones in the movie to occur in black discos. Robert Ford, Jr. presents this idea in “Jive Talking N.Y. DJs Rapping Away in Black Discos”, by saying that “rapping DJs reminiscent of early r&b radio jocks … are making an impressive comeback here – not in radio but in black discos where a jivey rap commands as much attention as the hottest new disk” (43).
McDaniel College had first been created when its first building went up in 1866-1867. The school was the first institution that was south of the Mason-Dixon line and was coeducational. The first name that the school had was Western Maryland. That name originated because the institutions first board chairman (John Smith Wakefield) was president of the railroad, which had been called Western Maryland Railroad. The railroad had run through the college town. McDaniel had been one of forty colleges in the nation to be recognition in the New York Times education writer Loren Pope’s book, “Colleges That Change Lives” ("World Ranking Guide”). The schools colors are green and gold and the mascot is a Green Terror. There are about 1,629 students
Oakland fell into the Alternative Education Law program. Students worked at their own pace and speed to complete school. Oakland High School generally graduated between 15-20 students a year. Several smaller programs existed within the school, such as Region 5, or ALC (Alternative Learning Center) program or Lincoln Tree Farm. Region 5 were for student who were in transition from just being released from either Echo Glenn or Green hill youth jail facilities. They worked with a JRA representatives and would complete school work and prepare to reenter the comprehensive high school setting. They would have no contact with the remainder of the building and programs. This program ended during the 2007-2008 school year.
Today is the first day of my trek through the magical kingdom of the Great Smoky Mountains. I have just entered the Smoky Mountains National Park. It has been a tough road, but I have finally made it here. I can see such a beautiful view here; it seems like heaven for North Carolina and Tennessee. Although I feel the need to just stop and stare, I own little time to waste at the moment. I need to recover, and I feel that I also might need some medical attention.
I may not be the best candidate for the next member of the National Junior Honor Society, but I certainly believe I could be a great addition! Overall, I am a great learner, leader and student. I have not had any major discipline problems since kindergarten! I have always had top grades and have been top of my class at some point or another. I have good grades that I always maintain and standards that I never lower. My character is not the best but it certainly isn’t the worst. I try to help out in my school or community when possible but regrettably I have not given much of my time to my school or community. At the end of the day, I am a good student, friend, son and brother.
The typical American teenager goes through many stages of psychosocial change from the ages between 12 and 18. Adolescence is a difficult time for most because it is a huge transition time from being a child to becoming an adult. Many of these changes or challenges are so common that they are experienced by almost everyone. Some are brought on by physical changes in appearance and hormones while others are more psychological. Famous psychologist, Sigmund Freud, believed that a person’s biological activity will motivate their behavior and development. (Life Span page 36) Adolescent teens will most likely have difficulty with social, parental and sexual issues, physical changes to their body, identity confusion, a tendency to participate
My desire was to challenge myself and pursue my belief in life-long learning. And yes, the last eight weeks have definitely been a challenge intellectually in IDS 101. After the first two weeks of school, I seriously questioned why I would go back to school at fifty-one years of age for personal satisfaction. The days were long and I wasn’t sure I still had the self-discipline and determination that would be needed to finish. Over the last eight weeks, this class gave me numerous opportunities to hone my skills in critical thinking, research, and writing. This class has given me the necessary skills to continue toward completing my degree.
The hip-hop culture began in the streets of New York City during the 1970’s and has gone through tremendous changes up until now. Hip-Hop consists of four elements: rap, graffiti, break-dancing, and the disc jockey. In this paper, I intend to fully explain the evolution of rap music, from its infancy to the giant industry it is today.
The Breakfast Club is a movie about five totally different students in high school who are forced to spend a Saturday in detention in their school library. The students come from completely different social classes which make it very difficult for any of them to get along. They learn more about each other and their problems that each of them have at home and at school. This movie plays their different personality types against each other. In this essay I will go into detail about each of the students and the principal individually.
Woodstock Woodstock was a rock music festival that took place near Woodstock, New York in a town called Bethel. The festival took place over three days, August 15, 16, and 17, 1969. The original plan for Woodstock was an outdoor rock festival, "three days of peace and music" in the Catskill village of Woodstock. The festival was expected to attract 50,000 to 100,000 people. It was estimated that an unexpected 400,000 or more people attended. If it weren't for Woodstock, rock and roll wouldn't be where it is today. Woodstock became a symbol of the 1960s American counterculture and a milestone in the history of rock music. The original plan for Woodstock had been to build a recording studio in the town of Woodstock (Sandow,
