Demographic information

1. Describe person interviewed (i.e., mother, father, grandmother). This person must be one of the primary caregivers for the child. NO NAMES please.

The person that I interviewed was the mother of the child.

2. Child’s age, gender, and grade level in school.

The child is 14 years old, he is a male and is in 8th grade about to go to 9th grade.

3. Name of school and district that child attends: Identify the school’s category as either preschool, elementary or middle/Junior High.

Identify one of the following as the area in which the school is located: urban, suburbs, rural county, or small town.

The child goes to Haywood County Middle School in Haywood County. The area in which the school is located is a rural county.

Parental Involvement Information

4. What strategies are used by the school to get parents involved in activities of the school ( i.e., how are parents invited to participate) ?
(Ex. telephone calls, newsletters, home visits, notes sent home by children, etc.)

The strategies that got this parent involved in school activities were text messages and notes sent home to the parents. The parents are invited to …show more content…

Also, since the teachers usually stay in touch with parents through emailing/text, it is easier to call them when they have a question about an assignment or about a certain grade. I am not sure if other schools do this, but the interviewee told me about an app called “Power School”. She says that she likes it the best because every grade that goes in, she can see right away. She and her son have benefited from their participation with the sports team activities. They have both created great relationships with the coaches, which are also teachers, so it helps them both
