The child goes to Haywood County Middle School in Haywood County. The area in which the school is located is a rural county.

Also, since the teachers usually stay in touch with parents through emailing/text, it is easier to call them when they have a question about an assignment or about a certain grade. I am not sure if other schools do this, but the interviewee told me about an app called “Power School”. She says that she likes it the best because every grade that goes in, she can see right away. She and her son have benefited from their participation with the sports team activities. They have both created great relationships with the coaches, which are also teachers, so it helps them both

Samere interviewed with Detective Walton. Samere attends Reeceville elementary school. Samere discussed different activities he enjoyed doing at school like gym and recess. Samere talked about safety and who he feels safe around. Samere felt that he could go to his brother (Martice) or his aunt (Carmen Jacks) if he was in any danger.
Parents Meetings / Evenings– to inform the parent of their child’s progress throughout the school year and where they need to improve.
Communication between teachers and the parents of students is essential for the growth and success of the student both inside and outside of the classroom. This communication is best achieved through parent conference opportunities. One way that this is achieved is through regular open house nights. This is where parents, and other members of the community, are invited to come to the school and talk to the teachers and other faculty at the school. Another conference opportunity presents itself in a scheduled appointment between the teacher and the parent. This will enable the parent to meet face-to-face with their child’s teacher during a time that is more convenient to them, as these appointments can occur before, during, and after school. Additionally, conferences can take place over the phone. This is a convenient way for both parties to communicate effectively in a way that works best for them.

There are many ways for parents to actively participate in their student’s education. Scholastic.com recommends including tips for helping parents get involved. In this 6th grade classroom, each EC parent will receive a copy of their child’s IEP goals, along with the date of their annual review and re-evaluation date, if applicable to this school year. Parents are asked if there is a preferred day of the week and time to best schedule future IEP meetings. Attached to this information will be contact information for both co-teachers including email address, school phone number, planning time and a calendar denoting the designated monthly parent-teacher conference days and times. Additional components of the parental involvement piece to Curriculum Night includes an invitation to join our PTO, sports schedules, and information about proctoring. Her teacher reports that minor is very responsible with all her school work and completes all her assignments on time; her grades are in the 90% range. She participates in class, behaves well and gets along with all of her classmates.
During the placement I was able to spend time observing interactions between parents, children and staff. I witnessed many positive aspects in the schools approach to engaging parents and was particularly impressed by their open door policy for parents and the support provided to families in times of need by the learning mentors. As part of the admission process to the school, staff visit the parents and child at home and discuss the implementation of the home-school agreement (appendix 1.b). This agreement sets out the expectations of each of the parent, school and child in regard to their actions and attitude towards their time in school. This is often one of the first interactions teacher and parents have and Grayson (2011) suggests most teachers report these home visits to have a lasting positive effect on the child and parent-teacher relationship. During the school’s inspection in 2014 Ofsted identified relationships across the school and with parents as a key strength.

I had the pleasure of meeting Devyn in November 2015. I asked whether he was able to be interviewed by me, and he agreed. Devyn has worked in the Therapeutic Recreation field for 20 years.
As a future educator, I am mindful of the fact that it’s my job to find out why my student is struggling. Sitting down with the child may help me determine the problem. Our elementary schools are filled with children who yearn to see their parents at an awards day ceremony, open house, or even just to meet with the teacher to discuss their school work. Concerned educators are asking for more involvement from parents of kids who are falling behind in class. The federal government is proposing an increase in the education budget so our teachers can be well equipped to teach our children. Even the state legislature is getting involved in education issues. It is imperative that these entities get involved. However, personal experience indicates that being an available parent is unquestionably the most positive influence for many children who would
As a teacher, I would want to make the time to sit down with the parents of my students and find out what their goals are for their children in the educational spectrum, as well as gain a better understanding on strengths and weaknesses the student has. I’ve noticed that many of the teachers are using educational programs or creating websites that are geared towards staying in contact with the parents and keeping them updated on their child’s progress. I would want to have a similar program and update it with information on the things we covered in class, any homework or notices that were sent home, upcoming events that are happening in our classroom or at the school, and allow for parents to contact me in regards to their
For interview I was fortunate enough to speak with Tonia Dudley who is an Information Security Risk Reporting and Awareness Analyst at Charles Schwab in Chandler, Arizona. She was very happy to share her wealth of knowledge with me and I came away with multiple resources for more information and a greater understanding of the job itself. Not only did I ask questions about her current position, but I also wanted to know about her prior experience and schooling that qualified her for the job.
